Amateur Records Data Base

Post by Rafael »

Good afternoon. Apologies if this has been discussed before. I did search, but found nothing. Is there anything close to a substantial data base of amateur records out there? I recall that the 3615 Boxing Avenue site (AKA boxing-records.com) used to display amateur records of former titleholders, but that site is defunct now. I surmise at least some data is out there, but was wondering if I could get some information on this.

Thank you in advance.

There is Boxing-Scoop.com. It has amatuer records-some incomplete-of Ali, Foreman, Tyson, etc., but also actors such as Dean Martin, Roy Scheider, Tom Neal, Mickey Rourke, Johnny Carson, etc.

Here's the link:

Whatever the websites say, don't believe them. In the US, they didn't start using passbooks where their bouts were recorded until the mid 80's. I don't know about the rest of the world but even with a passbook, boxers, coaches, whoever will often embelish the record. I always laugh when watching pro fights on ESPN or HBO, etc and the announcers will talk about a boxer I never heard of before who is from the US and has a record of something like 150- 6 or 220-12. I was a R/J on the national/international level for over 20 years and know who most of the best amateurs in the world were. If they had amateur records like that, they won national championships because when you get a record anything like that, you are not getting bouts on the local level and can only get bouts in tournaments.

Cool. I just figured most of those matches were local amateur smokers.

Seconded on the Strefa site, only issue is the spelling of some fighters names (Carlos Banteux being a notable one)
