prime for prime
just wondering who you think would win (prime for prime) nigel benn or carl froch
Re: prime for prime
Froch, all day. And Benn was like a idol to me when I was a young un. Sorry Nige!
Re: prime for prime
Don't know! Lets all get this right, Taylor was a career middle & was past his time as a great fighter & he knocked froch down pretty heavily & wasn't far off derailing him.i could see benn possibly taking froch out of there or even out working him over the twelve.just because froch is strong can punch & has a great chin, he is also slow has a terrible defence & one paced i think benn has a great chance in a thrilling contest
Re: prime for prime
Froch, but a close battle !
Re: prime for prime
I first thought Froch but now giving it some thought I'm not so sure. It would be a brutal fight though, but Benn was more fluid and busier than Froch. I can see Froch hurting Benn and going all out on the attack only for Benn to land a hail Mary a al Logan on a Froch forgetting his defence. I don't think Nigel could force the stoppage but he'll certainly have him hurt, especially with body shots ;;-) which would obviously slow down Froch even more.
Only certainty is the excitement, pick um for me

Re: prime for prime
doug de witt and iran barkley was his primetime in my opinion, that time of his career
Re: prime for prime
i also seen benn wobbled in nearly every fight, froch is a modern day great and benn used to swing for the fences in every fight.froch got knocked down against taylor for the first time ever in his life but ive seen froch take shot after shot against kessler, ward, johnson, dirrell etc etc and not even wobbled. i know its all about opinion but to say would win off froch being knocked down once 4-5 years ago is abit silly i think. benn is a big puncher but so is carl froch and froch consistant pressure would wear down benn just like steve collins did,i would see froch knocking benn out in 6-8 roundshurlock wrote:Don't know! Re: prime for prime
ill go with the benn being more fluint and more brutal but carl is more perssistant and the pressure would be too much for benn imo. i loved watching benn against the likes of eubank, watson, logan ,de witt and barkley but i remember him against collins and sugar boy plus the knock downs vs mcClelland, eubank, logan and i just think froch would dismanle him slowlyLenny wrote:I first thought Froch but now giving it some thought I'm not so sure. I honestly think they could fight 100 times and the result still not be conclusive. It would be an absolute war thats for sure.
Re: prime for prime
Benn would be too fast and clever
Re: prime for prime
Dunno I think he was still a bit raw then despite moving on from the Watson loss. I felt his prime was from the Eubank draw to the Mclellan win - cuter defensively with the one big big performance left in the locker.johnnykayo wrote:doug de witt and iran barkley was his primetime in my opinion, that time of his career

Clash of heads early leaves the fans knowing nothing.
Niot a great blend of styles IMO, Froch's bull rush tactics + Benns bobbing head movement from down low = nasty cut for somebody.

Re: prime for prime
Benn was not that fast, and certainly not a thinking fighter. Benn's tactics were fairly limited, and relied on his aggression, his undeniable punch power, and his great stamina.
I think Froch would have had to endure some serious early round fire, and Benn would have rallied after being hurt, but in the end, Carl's greater toughness and better toolset would have won the day. I think it would have been one hell of a fight with Benn getting busted up over the last third.

Re: prime for prime
i think benn was the explosive fighter of that division and era of the british middleweights and in my opinion the best out the lot of em with was michael watson, lookin back now with bomber graham, errol christie, mark kaylor, james cooke, frank grant, chris eubank, roy gumbs, gary stretch etc. that division had a helluva range of good fighters but i always rated watson and thought he would of gone all the way but obviously with the tragic result of his second fight with eubank. but goin back to benn he was awesome, knockout ratio amazing and good chin, but i think he would of done froch but a points decision.
Re: prime for prime
Froch just but only because of his chin. I actually think Benn was the better boxer and the more powerful but Froch seems impossible to stop and over 12 gruelling rounds I could see Benn being gradually worn down.
Re: prime for prime
Carl is a big old SMW, like some have already mentioned benns best days may have been at MW. Testiment to Froch and his achievments. Post dirrell many thought he was overated, he really needs the kessler w to cement his legacy. Something many are giving him just for turning up - wont be that easy.
Re: prime for prime
Better boxer? Really? Big call. Perfectly entitled to your opinion but i think carls boxing is overlooked in favour of his gung ho style. World amateur bronze was it?SteveDow wrote:Froch just but only because of his chin. What a fight.
Re: prime for prime
Totally agree on the Kessler fight. I'd make it a 60-40 in Froch's favour but mainly because it's on home soil. Should be an absolute corker and can't wait to snap up two tickets when they go on sale.Wales wrote:Carl is a big old SMW, like some have already mentioned benns best days may have been at MW. Re: prime for prime
Tough one, Benn was probably at his best 88-91 at middleweight, fast hands and big power causing all sorts of misery for proper hardcases like Doug Dewitt, Iran Barkley and Robbie Sims but even then Watson and Eubank stopped him and if I remember rightly US gatekeeper Sanderline Williams gave him lot of trouble. Froch isn't as quick but he is bigger and has good punch resistance, I don't know, I edge slightly towards Froch but wouldn't write Benn off at all as Benn probably had more guts than all of Frochs opponents combined barring Glen Johnson.
