I think Braddock could win this one late, a bit like the night Bruno completely fell apart after winning the first 9 rounds against Bonecrusher Smith.

Jimmy Braddock vs Frank Bruno
Both managed to meet up with a fairly disinterested 'champ' and became heroes for a while.
I think Braddock could win this one late, a bit like the night Bruno completely fell apart after winning the first 9 rounds against Bonecrusher Smith.

I'm not trying to pretend Jim Braddock was a great fighter; he was an average fighter...maybe even a below average fighter...that had the fight of his life against a champ past his prime.
However, Frank Bruno is just bad. He was bad. There's no other way to put it. He never, ever came through in big fights.
He was KO'd by Bonecrusher Smith, KO'd by Tim Witherspoon, KO'd by Mike Tyson twice and KO'd by Lennox Lewis. On the one night where he didn't completely implode he won the WBC title off of Oliver McCall, the first incarnation of Hasim Rahman, then promptly lost it to Tyson.
The difference between Bruno and Braddock is that on the biggest nights of their respective careers, Braddock came up big, and Bruno fucked up.
So, without hesitation, and even though Rory knows I'm not a huge fan of Braddock, I will say that Braddock would win this fight by UD.

i would hardly call braddock a below average figher.. hes not great but he was at least above average.. anyway..iceman your correct here.. bruno never came through in the big fights, and braddock almost always did... with the exception of tommy loughran.. (joe louis- there was never any hope, he did the best he could lets be honest)iceman21287 wrote:I'm not trying to pretend Jim Braddock was a great fighter; he was an average fighter...maybe even a below average fighter...that had the fight of his life against a champ past his prime.

anyway, i think that a 1935 braddock def. has enough power to KO bruno... and i definatley do not think bruno would be able to ko one of the best heavyweight chins ever.. ill take braddock by KO somewhere in between round 9-12... i think braddock slowly wears him down and gets some body punches..
i think one of the advantages, which was rare for JJB who was a notoriously slow fighter, would be his speed... i think he would be able to get to the punch first..
So thats my answer.. braddock has enough power and is smart enough to fight the right fight, and of course his heart and his chin will show up like ALWAYS... Braddock By KO 9-12 rounds.
(thanks for the thread collins..always nice to see one of jjb)

I have to agree, we get to talking in "relative" terms. Anyone who has made it to top ten status at anytime has probably been through trial by fire in life and deserves respect.dempseyfire wrote:iceman, calling Braddock 'below average' just demonstrates pure stupidy and ignorance.
And Bruno . . 'bad?" I never knew 'bad' fighters would become top 10 HWs for a decade and win a portion of the HW title . . .
There are no bums with any of the names we banter about, I know I wouldnt want to pick a disagreement with any of them. But when we get goin the language basicaly disentegrates. Sort of human so no big deal as long as we can snap back to reality now and then. All these guys are pretty well tuned hurting machines. Probably wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of any of them.

Listen I'm well aware that neither Bruno nor Braddock were "bad" in the sense that they were bad fighters. Relatively speaking they were, but I failed to mention that so yeah I deserve to get blasted for that. As far as top fighters go neither was very good, but of course in comparison to the boxing world as a whole they were top notch fighters.BoxBuzz wrote:I have to agree, we get to talking in "relative" terms. rory one thing about braddock.
- i always thought he was around 6' and im guessing most people do, or perhaps even shorter. but braddock was actually around 6'3!!! he was in fact very tall for a heavyweight. he was a skinny mother, weighing in 180s and being 6'3. ANOTHER BIG THING, his reach was 78" which is pretty long.
many people think braddock was just a short rocky balboa guy who plouded in with no skill and won on heart. but actually brradock was a tall heavyweight with a long reach, great chin, and braddock was a boxer not slugger or swarmer. braddock had decent boxing skills.
i pick braddock over bruno TKO 13 . bruno had terrible stamina and much like his other fights, i think braddock will box with him and tire him out late in the fight and go in for the kill. braddock had a great chin so it will be tough for bruno to KO him.
braddock was only really knocked out once in his career. the other time was in his younger days when he was stopped on his feet. but braddock had a great chin, and it goes to show u how much power joe louis really had. braddock hadnt been counted out ever, and with one right hand joe louis knocked braddock out cold with perhaps the most powerful punch of joe louis's career. i cant see many other heavyweights doing that to braddock with one punch.

I doubt that this one has been done before.
Bruno wins by KO. He's far too big & powerful.

Bruno outweighed Braddock by a considerable margin.
