Vasyl lomachenko to turn pro very soon !
By Alexey Sukachev
Ukraine's Vasyl Lomachenko, who won a gold medal at super featherweight in the 2008 Olympics, and a gold medal at lightweight in the 2012 Olympics, is planning to retire from the amateur ranks in the spring. The 24-year-old fighter has no idea which promoter he will work with, but the boxer says his team was contacted by "every" major promoter in the industry. The boxer is regarded by many as the best amateur fighter, pound-for-pound, in the world.
“All of my thoughts are presently linked to “Ukrainian Otamans” (a new, Ukrainian franchise of the semi-professional World Series of Boxing under AIBA umbrella). This season gives me a chance to be matched up with a number of very strong, almost elite fighters. Only when it’s over, after weighing-in all the options, I’ll be able to say something certain about my future," Lomachenko said.
“I’m a two-time champion of the world, and right now I’m fully focused on professional boxing. Fighting without headgear, a helm, within the WSB, helps me to prepare better for the pros. Given that, I shall not return to the world amateur championships”.

Lomanchenko will be a brilliant addition to the pro ranks and is good enough to be ready to fight for real world titles after 12-15 fights. I don't know if they'll choose to move him that quickly, though. Similarities exist between the way RJJ and FMJ were raised and the was Vasyl was raised. Demanding fathers who had them in the gym for hours and hours, day in day out since early boyhood. He's for real and if he were a business on the brink of being floated, I'd be itching to slap a huge dollop of money on him.

Tszyu did it against Jake Rodriguez for the IBF so it's certainly possible.jessi wrote:Cant wait to see his pro debut, I feel he will be matched very tough very soon !

Yes he is a talent. When you consider Craig Evans is said to have defeated Selby & Yafai, and then was beaten 15-1 by Vasyl, then you know he is elite.

There's a decent documentary knocking about somewhere, I can't remember if it's in English or not (I speak enough Russian to just about follow along with the TV) but even if it isn't, you get a decent insight into his training and what not. I'll try and search it out later.

Hopefully he gets to fight vs the Lionhearts in the York Hall in a couple of months before he turns over.
I also hope the other guy that turns over with him is Usik.

I laughed when he said that he thought Mike Tyson was Ukranian, and that he cried upon finding out that he wasn't; I find the idea of Tyson as a Ukranian rather humorous.Deno1986 wrote:Here ya go mate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrFeAC3XrSMJLP wrote:There's a decent documentary knocking about somewhere, I can't remember if it's in English or not (I speak enough Russian to just about follow along with the TV) but even if it isn't, you get a decent insight into his training and what not. He seems to be doing very well for himself inside and outside the ring.
Re: Vasyl lomachenko to turn pro very soon !
He was brilliant at London 2012. He could easily have won another Val Barker if he'd showcased himself properly, but instead,in the final, he paced himself beautifully to beat the Korean. I've always thought he'd be a great pro.

He was 20 and won the Val Barker and won the next Olympics after that in a higher weight class.Loynesy wrote:He was brilliant at London 2012. Sounds like this kid is a very special talent. I'd say some big promoters will be after him.
Re: Vasyl lomachenko to turn pro very soon !
Soooo excited about this. No hotter prospect in the amateur ranks IMO and given his style has to nailed on to become just as successful in the pro ranks (nobody mention Errol Christie or Howard Davis Jr please!).
Re: Vasyl lomachenko to turn pro very soon !
I thought he had signed up to join AIBA Professional Boxing (which starts later on this year)? Has he had a change of heart?
Re: Vasyl lomachenko to turn pro very soon !
He looked like dynamite vs Maxwell recently. I've since him box live quite a few times and saw him warming up backstage at the Olympics - he's different class.
WSB is good for the boxers, it lets them test the waters of the pro game to an extent, and get a feel for it. He seems to like it without the headguard and knows, a big promoter would snap him up and he could make millions eventually. Even the lure of winning another gold medal at Rio couldn't beat that for him.
He might be boxing in England in WSB next week so get along to that at york hall if he is to see him in person.

The lion hearts are fighting kazakstan at York hall and not Ukraine !dbf wrote:He looked like dynamite vs Maxwell recently. I've since him box live quite a few times and saw him warming up backstage at the Olympics - he's different class.

Yes. 1/2 March is when the Ukranians are over here.jessi wrote:The lion hearts are fighting kazakstan at York hall and not Ukraine !dbf wrote:He looked like dynamite vs Maxwell recently. Ok thanks, when will we know if vasyl is on the team or not ? He only stepped in to fight Maxwell because someone was injured apparently !JLP wrote:Yes. 1/2 March is when the Ukranians are over here.jessi wrote:The lion hearts are fighting kazakstan at York hall and not Ukraine !dbf wrote:He looked like dynamite vs Maxwell recently. Re: Vasyl lomachenko to turn pro very soon !
Think his dad wanted him to do the wsb to get used to the no vest, no head guard and more rounds before he went pro, think his taken to it like a duck to water so might as well go pro properly ! Unless of course he is talking about being a AIBA pro first.Jack B wrote:I thought he had signed up to join AIBA Professional Boxing (which starts later on this year)? Has he had a change of heart?
Re: Vasyl lomachenko to turn pro very soon !
I wonder what weight he will fight at.. Looks small for a lightweight. Guessing he may go down to Feather or Super Bantam he is electric.. May lack a bit of power can't wait to see how he does
Re: Vasyl lomachenko to turn pro very soon !
He'll knock 'em out in the pros, mate, don't worry about that. He sacrifices his power for in and out speed at the moment. When he turns over he'll dig his feet in a bit more and cause some damage.daviddee wrote:I wonder what weight he will fight at.. Looks small for a lightweight. Timing is the key and he has it in abundance ! I love his little uppercut when in a clinch as he turns to get out ! His pure class, probably the best amateur since kindelan or rigondeaux ! Maybe even better ?daviddee wrote:I wonder what weight he will fight at.. Looks small for a lightweight. Guessing he may go down to Feather or Super Bantam he is electric..
