Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
B.B. Kings Opening Night
Manhattan, NY
132 Open
Hamzah Alhamadi (Atlas Cops & Kids) def Alejandro Valentin (Worldwide BC) 4-1
Vassiliy Zherebnenko (NYAC) def Grashino Yancy (Atlas Cops & Kids) 5-0
Christian Chavez (Freeport PAL) def Christian Camacho (Unattached) 5-0
114 Open
Chayanne Rivera (Willis Ave BC) def Nashad Clark (Starrett City BC) RSC-1
Jordan Rodriguez (Ardon Sweet Science) def Allen Littlejohn (Suffolk PAL) RSC-1
Oscar Moreno (Green Fitness BC) def Joshua Gonzalez (Willis Ave BC) 4-1
At 132 Open, the favorite has to be Vassiliy, the reigning champ...I think it'll come down to either him or Titus Williams (Freeport PAL) taking it all...just like it played out last year....Marlon Brown and Christian Chavez could make it interesting...
114 may come down to Julion Ramphal (received a bye) and Jordan Rodriguez, but Chayanne Rivera is a live threat...
Moreno and Gonzalez was a real good fight, fight of the night for sure, Moreno got dropped in the 1st and looked in trouble with his nose bleeding but got up and started bringing it to Gonzalez and ultimately was the better fighter and won the next 2 rounds...
Rodriguez and Rivera just completely overwhelmed their opponents...
Chavez-Camacho was a decent fight, Camacho really didn't let his hands go, don't know what he was trying to do except counter once in a while...Chavez is a good fighter but he'll have to be busier if he's gonna have a chance to take an upset over Williams, Zherbnenko, or even Brown...

Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
Wassup everyone, I just seen the 114 just got interesting. I think Ramphal and Rodriguez will face off in the finals. Thats would be a really good fight. 132 is a tough division. Chavez made his debut in gloves this year. Your right he needs to throw more punches if he wants to win over Williams and vas or brown. Does any know anything about 123 open ( who's fighting In that division). I hear Julian Sosa will be fighting 141 open this year too. Brian ceballo moved up to 152.
Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
The gloves is back!
141 open - wesley ferrer Jayquran hazel Jose Davila Julian Sosa are the strongest. Hopefully they arent matched together in the quarters.

165 open- Christopher Galeano LeShawn Rodriguez And if what im hearing is true im hearing Jeremy Fiorentino is fighting 65 open to

Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
Wassup ya'll, these are my picks this year in each Open class...
114 Open- Julion Ramphal
Chayanne Rivera and Oscar Moreno may have something to say about that but I'm picking Ramphal...
123 Open- Michael Stoute
I see Stoute beating everyone except Jaime Estrada. I think Estrada beat him in the Metros...not a good style matchup for Stoute against Estrada is very aggressive and lets his hands go.....if they meet in the Finals I think Estrada would win but Estrada is beatable too
132 Open- Vassiliy Zherebnenko/ Titus Williams
This fight was very close in last year's Semifinals, ugly fight, points deducted, I felt Vassiliy took it in the last minute...if they meet before the Finals again it'll come down to who wants it more...Marlon Brown and Christian Chavez have the ability to upset one of the top 2 but I don't see it happening...
141 Open- Wesley Ferrer
With Ceballo going to 152 I think Wesley has to be the favorite despite losing the Metros. Jayquran Hazel could steal it from him in an ugly fight but my money is on Wesley...I sure hope him and Jayquran don't fight, everytime they do the fights are UNWATCHABLE, no disrespect to either guy, but they don't look good in the ring together...
152 Open- Brian Ceballo
Ceballo can beat everyone in the division, just depends on whether he's focused or not...don't sleep on Tyrone James though, just like Ceballo if he's focused I wouldn't be suprised at all if he beat Ceballo, Ceballo didn't look impressive against Ronniel Vargas this week...but Ceballo is still the favorite and he takes it to another level when he gets in the Garden(well the Barclays now)
165 Open- Christopher Galeano
I think going up to 165 was a good idea for Chris, I don't see anyone beating him here...I think LeShawn Rodriguez beat him in a National fight but I think Chris would beat him most of the time...
178 Open- Jeff Laguerre
Well with Max Tassy losing to Jeff, I think that pretty much clears the way at 178 unless we see an upset by Anthony Pegues...178 hasn't been deep in a while...it was basically Marcus Browne and everyone else for a while...
201 Open-
Not too keen on 201, if Joseph Williams is doing the Gloves yet again, I see nobody beating him...
I think 132 and 152 Open will feature the best competition this year...

Not too keen on 201, if Joseph Williams is doing the Gloves yet again, I see nobody beating him...
I think 132 and 152 Open will feature the best competition this year...
Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
123 open- Jamie estrada.. It will probably go down to him and stoute unless roman is back
132 open- it should go down between Vassily Titus And Hamzah. cant choose its should be a good year for the 32's
141 open- Jose Davila. He's known to slack but hes been training harder then ever better run if you're gonna beat him. Wesley def got way better if you seen his preliminary bout id like to see them fight
152 open- i cant choose..but ill go with Chordale Booker This division is always the toughest! And i watched ceballo vs ronniel. I was not impressed by ceballos performance. He was getting hit alot in the last round. Tyrone is always a threat... Peter dobson as welll.. Im sure Chordale wants the rematch
Anyone watch tyrone james vs peter dobson on youtube? I think dobson was robbed BIG TIME
165 open- Christopher Galeano. Leshawn and chris's styles just dont match. Its always gonna be an ugly fight between them so im hoping they dont see each other. Lol if its true that Jeremy Fiorentino is fighting 65 open. Then id go with them having a 4th fight in the finals
Oh yeah chris ventura is back and fighting 65 open. Any thoughts on that?

At 132 I don't think Hazmah's busy enough, he lost to Titus and Stoute last year and I think he would lose to Vassiliy too...Davila is always a threat but he's gotta let his hands go...Gln101 wrote:Any thoughts on that?
I was at Tyrone James and Peter Dobson fight, I actually thought Dobson won but when I saw it on tape I thought it was closer, a lotta Dobson's punches hit arms and in the amateurs seems like they usually won't score much for body work...and Dobson looked dead tired in the 3rd round, that didn't help...
Forgot Chris Ventura was back at 165...wouldn't be suprised to see him back in the Finals...I don't think Fiorentino is doing the Gloves but we'll see...I think he's wayyy to small for 165

Yeah i thought the same when i heard fiorentino is doing 65. Well see on thursday christopher will most likely get a bye since hes going out to the usa nationals next. Week i think. I doubt there will be any 65 fights probably straight byes into the quarters

For 132 Open Division I Disagree With Everyone Because Everyone Seems To Be Sleeping On Marlon Brown ..... Marlon Brown Has Won The Gloves At 132 Open In 2010 By Beating Wesley Ferrer With A 5/0 Decision . The Only Reason Brown Lost Last Year Was Because The Ref Stop The Fight Because Of A Bullshit Cut On The Eye , Which Brown Was Winning that Fight Against Titus . I See Brown And Vassiliy In The Finals And Brown Taking It All . All The Rest Of Those Guy At132 I Feel Bad For Because They Have To Fight A 6 Foot Freak Of Nature And When Brown Is Training Hard No One Can Beat Him True Fact . None Of Those Guy Are Busier Than Brown .

Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
132 Open class heating up...
The Final 4 are Titus Williams, Hamzah Alhumaidi, Vassily Zherebnenko, and Christian Chavez...
Doubt Williams and Chavez fight in the Qtrs since they're from the same gym (possible tho)...I wouldn't be suprised if any of these guys end up in the Finals...
Williams lost to Vassily, beat Hamzah, Christian hasn't fought either of the 3, anything can happen though...
My money's still on Titus Williams and Vassiliy Zherebnenko in the Finals but based on matchups and everything else an upset is possible.

The 132 open class is getting real interesting. Is crazy how cristian Chavez beat macho easily but then not to long ago , christian macho stoped hamaza at the new York casino. Do u know by any chance how many fights Christian Chavez have? I would like to see Christian Chavez vs hamaza would be a good interesting fight. I think Chavez and williams will be in the finals. But its boxing so anything could happen!

I seen Marlon Brown Friday night in Flushing (3/16/13) he didn't look like the fighter we all remember from years past althogh I thought he did enough to win he didn't get the decision.
It might be time for him to move up to 141 open...... Just my observation from afar
He'd still have a height and reach advantage in that weight class.
Must be hard as he gets older to remain at 132.

Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
Yeah Marlon should have been moved up to 141, don't know why he's sucking weight to make 132...I don't think 141 is that deep...
Not sure how many fights Christian has, but he has to have a pretty good amount, cuz he had to go Open in the Gloves this year, so he has a good share of experience...I know he had JO fights, don't know how many...
Would be interesting to see Titus and Christian in the Finals, doubt that happens...I think Christian will end up with the tough draw of fighting Vassiliy but anything is possible...
152 Open goes Wednesday Night...

Re: 2013 New York Golden Gloves (86th edition)
152 Open is down to the Final 4, with Peter Dobson, Tyrone James, Luis Apontes, & Jose De La Rosa
With that the favorite has to be James I'd say, he beat Dobson in a good fight late last year and has 2 stoppages in a row, Apontes had a bye not keen on him, De La Rosa won a war...
I'm not sleeping on Dobson though, he does good body work and I think suprised a lotta people tonight by beating 2-time champ Brian Ceballo, the favorite, and buckling him in the last round...it was a competitive fight but Dobson seemed to land cleaner and bigger down the stretch including a standing 8 in the 3rd....
I hope its Tyrone and Peter in the Finals, that would be a good bout but if they're drawing who knows what will happen...

What happened to this thread it got dead? 0_0 lol. I hear Titus is going to the finals he beat his teammate Christian Chavez was it a good fight ? In the 152 lbs division, it's between Peter dopson and Jose de la rosa , that should be a good fight either one could win. I know Wesley is in the finals but I don't know who's he fighting. In the 123 lbs division it's between Jaime Estrada vs Wilfredo morales . Should be a really good fight . They faught a couple years back in the metros. It's a boxer vs a puncher type fight should be good.
