Just wondering if anyone knows the reasoning behind mainevents being held on Week nights?

Apart from having the fights on a night where they will not collide with overseas fights we do not have a real weekend off economy.

How do you mean weekend off economy? As it more people have to work at a weekend than other countries around the world?

Surely with the time difference fights wouldn't clash?

I know my boss will prefer they were on a weekend when I get to the office :-)

I've heard before (and it makes sense) that it's because it clashes less with, in particular, the footy codes. Most Aussies won't sit at home and pay for a boxing ppv when they can go and watch either live or on tv, the footy.
Makes sense to me. But I still hate having them on a school night.

I live in Australia. I guess the footie reason makes the most sense it is pretty much a national pass time.

there is rarely footy on at lunch time on a sunday, so why not then?
also the footy is usually finished around 8.30 on a sat night, so why not after the footy?
what better way to finish a night of watching 26, 30 or 36(i think for afl, correct me if im wrong) blokes belt the crap out of each other, than to watch two more blokes belt the crap out of each other?

this is true. but there is an opportunity to be a supporting act on that same card. wouldnt be the first time a duel location event has been done. exposure on US tv without leaving australia. or, i could be way off here, but there may not be a showtime/hbo card EVERY week, so potentially schedule them on a week there is no big card on in the US??

Who's following America? Just saying I'd rather not have to wake up at 4:30 on a Thursday when I didn't get to bed before 1am because I wanted to stay up and watch boxing. A Brother needs his beauty sleep 8)

Weekends used to be for families. Before the nineties most world title fights were during the week.

I drove from Merrylands to Rushcutters Bay to watch Johnny Famechon beat Bobby Valdez at the old Sydney Stadium in 1968 and still fronted at work in the city before 8.30am the next day.

And with only one ppv channel showing the fights they seem pretty packed on a sunday with mma and boxing from the usa

It is one of those unfortunate things that you can't chose your parents. ACOSS has a strange way of defining poverty. The Australian minimum wage of $17 per hour is more than twice that of the USA and 5.4% unemployment is well under international levels so they go for 50% of average Household Earnings. How many adults are in a household?

Sunday rugby league games start at 2pm and 2.30pm with a lower grade game beforehand. Main Events from USA usually go to 3pm or later.
