cotto's confidence dented?
will cotto's confidence be dented or even shattered after coming so close to defeat? will this affect the way he fights in the future. or will the experience make him stronger. i think now is the time for his title to be taken from him. maybe he needs an easy next defence to get his confience back. witter and hatton should now have full belief that they can beat him. Your opinions gents?
I don't think anyone knows exactly how Cotto will react until we see him fight next, he alone knows at the moment how much it has effected his confidence. It could either make or break him and he could come back a stronger fighter or it could be a mental thing in future fights. He looked awfully relieved after the fight and rightfully so he was on the brink if you ask me. I think he needs to move up in weight as he seems very tight at the Light Welterweight class.
It'll definately have some sort of effect on him.... I think he will be either better or worse for it. But the signs are that making the weight is draining him to the point of diminishing his punch resistance and if he has anymore fights like that he will find himself defeated and his career well off the rails. He needs to move up in weight pretty soon.

Doubt this will affect him too much - he's probably thinking along the lines that he's just taken care of a murderous puncher, glad that's over, and pretty much proves he's unbeatable: no matter how many times you hurt him, he's got the heart and recovery to come back and win.
He'll be a bit more careful, maybe move up in weight, and will improve his defence too.
Probably an even better fighter than ever.

The only way it should affect him is to tell him it's time to move to welterweight. If he persists on hanging around at 140, then I think he's in for a shock. It'll take one of the top tier fighters to do it, but he's asking for trouble: When you're being rocked by Demarcus 'Chip Shop' Corley (sorry, haven't used that joke for ages) and put through the wringer by an unknown Columbian, it's probably time to recognise that cutting all the weight is not helping you in the long run.
My bigger concern with Cotto is that maybe he isn't the fighter we all thought he was on the way up. Yes, he's pure class at times, but I do think he can be knocked out of his rhythm if an opponent is prepared to go straight at him. At his pace, he looks great, at a higher tempo, his main attributes seem to go missing. I'd back Hatton, for instance, to knock him right out his comfort zone early. As I said though, it will take a good fighter to defeat him. But flaws ARE there.

to be honest with you i really dont think this cotto fight tha just past shattered his confidence in no way, yes he showed alot of ruff edges that he has to be worked on like he leave him self open when he's brawling but i feel hes goin to look at this fight and tighten all that up and he goin to come back even stronger i think hatton will be a very good match for him but i think cotto will brake him down with body shots that will push hatton back. i dont think cotto will allow hatton to fight him close the way he fought tszyu. cotto is a much more smart BOXER than tszyu.
