Astonishing pair of results, when you consider how he got pasted during the fights. First was a bit dodgy but Norris walked back up to him & nails the fvck out of him the second time. Nutter.

Can't agree with either of those being lucky, Spinks after only 7 fights being able to do 15 rounds, and it was a hard 15 rounds. Nothing lucky about that one, just Leon actually trained hard for it.

I'd say Tyson was unlucky, more than Buster lucky. Thinking he could just use his power and ability to get the job done and head back to the nightclub, then once that plan collapsed he was knocked out.

This might be a controvesial one - but Frank Bruno... got a fourth world title fight on the back of 3 stoppage loses in previous attempts. Brave effort in the 3 previous attempts but no real controvesy - good stoppages and in fights he was going to lose had it gone further.

It wasn't as if he really beat a who's who to earn the 2nd, 3rd and 4th stab at the titles.

Lucky they beat 2 huge names Ali being far past his Prime Spinks was lucky it was far from a Peak Ali or he wouldn't of gone the distance and Laing beating another legend who seemed unmotivated and out of shape or coulda been a much harder fight against the Duran who beat Cuvas, destroyed Moore and pushed Hagler 15 hard rounds, he was lucky he never met that Duran!!

I see what you say, it depends on what we call lucky, same as 'right place, right time'.
After the Laing fight not many would of predicted the run of results that Duran would have in his next 4 fights.

My vote goes to tony oakey, much as I like the man he earned good coin under the wbu banner (made fashionable by hatton, where is it now?) ? Now tony had a big heart and a jab and a straight right hand, that was about it, yes I know that at 5ft9 he was aba heavyweight champ etc etc, but I think that was more due to the poor standardsof aba entrants in that division at the time. But how good was oakey really? Very decent domestic class is my assumption. But..... he was lucky enough to have a good fan base and fought at a time when virtually anything was classed as a world contest and was on tv.

S'true, every time either of them went to the cards it was like "Okay then"... I suppose it's because their styles lent themselves to close fights... Scurriers without much power.

They fought a lot in their home towns (esp. Jorrin) & it is therefore natural to see close fight after close fight go their way & think "Hang on a bloody second..." But then again didn't Jorrin get gifts on the road as well (Brodie, first Larios fight if I remember correctly)?

It got so bad, when Ayala fought Morales & got bashed up, when he lasted the distance I half expected to hear "& the winner by split decision... PAULIE AYALA!!!"
