anyone trained to become an abae official?

Post by fantaheed »

anyone have experience of this process?

Ive just became affliated with my local boxing club and looking to go through this process. I have no expectations of judging/refereeing world title fights in the near future I just wanna to give something back to the sport and see how well I can progress.

I would be interested in any advice or similar experiences :TU:

I have been coaching for years and recently have done a judges course. Main thing is to know the rules, read your rule book. Even after you have passed the course you will have to score some contests as a probationary judge. Your score wont count but will be checked against the other judges. I attended a couple of shows scoring most on the clickers and some on the 20 point system before being allowed to judge properly. Also might be worth doing a time keepers exam as well as judges exam.

Been a judge for years, although haven't done any shows this season. Course is straight forward, but does depend on what region you are in. Contact your regional association for a rule book, get familiar with that and you should breeze through the course.

Your first 10 bouts might be a bit nerve wracking but you'll love it. I find it good fun and also a great chance to see some champions of the future.

thanks for comments much appreciated :TU:

i have applied lastnight for crb so waiting for that and been advised to get rule book asap and study that, the fella i spoke to last night didnt have one available only a 2009 version but he advsied there are quite a few changes so would def recommend getting an upto date version.

lad in the gym has just turned pro as well with spencer fearon so its good to pop down to gym and be able to see the training and sparring

To be honest mate the 2009 rule book is probably the latest one. The ABAE are probably revising it due to all the changes that AIBA are insisting NGB's adhere to, but in the mean time 2009 is the latest version I think.
