How did Yum react? Obviously it was never proved that he was involved.Il Duce wrote:"Scandal Hits World Boxing Council"

The WBC (World Boxing Council) faced by one of the 'biggest' scandals in boxing, has 'stripped'
their Super Bantamweight Champion - Dong-Kyun Yum of South Korea, and re-instated former
Champion - Rigoberto Riasco of Panama. WBC President Jose Sulaiman issued a statement,
regarding an immeduate change in the Title holder.
On Sunday Night - August 1, 1976 - American Referee - Larry Rozadilla was forced to change his
Scorecard, awarding the South Korean the Championship. Mr. Rozadilla said he was coerced by
'gangster types' who were armed with guns. Rozadilla claimed he was forced back into the Ring,
and raised the hand of Dong-Kyun Yum, awarding him the Title. "If I had not done so, they would have
killed me", Rozadilla added.
Dong-Kyun Yum was then declared the WBC Super Bantamweight Champion in the August 2, 1976
WBC Ratings list. Jose Sulaiman said that Rigoberto Riasco is still the Champion, and he will fulfill a
fight contract to defend his Championship on Sunday - October 9, 1976 and in Tokyo, Japan against
the #1 WBC Challenger - Kazou 'Royal' Kobayashi.
Jose Sulaiman added, that the 'winner of the Rigoberto Riasco vs. Royal Kobayashi bout, must defend
the Championship within 45-Days, and in a 'neutral site', in Mexico with 'neutral judges'. And both
fighters must share equally in the fight purse amounts.
Dong-Kyun Yum who was declared the Champion on August 1, 1976 - has been re-positioned to the #2 WBC
Super Bantamweight, behind Royal Kobayashi.
A shocked Jose Sulaiman expressed outrage in what happened in Pusan, South Korea - and ordered an inquiry.
He was scheduled to go to South Korea for a meeting, but fell ill which delayed the statement until today.
WBC Championship Committee Chairman - Robert Turley substituted, and determined that 'foul play' was involved,
but could not make a 'Final Decision' until he conferred with Mr. Sulaiman.
Earlier this month, the KBC (Korean Boxing Commission) was issued a telegram from the WBC, informing them of
the inquiry. The Officials in Seoul, Korea did make an announcement, stating that they would cooperate with the World
Boxing Council.
The WBC said that fighter Dong-Kyun Yum may have been involved in the act, but there was insufficient evidence to
fully implicate him. Jose Sulaiman said that he intended to 'cleanup boxing' when he was elected President 1-Year
ago, and that if he does find out that Dong-Kyun Yum was involved, he would expel him from the WBC.
The WBC announced that it would accept 'purse bids' for the planned WBC Super Bantamweight Championship
fight set for Mexico in 45-days after the Rigoberto Riasco - Royal Kobayashi Championship bout.

Dong-Kyun Yum was a fantastic fighter, and a National Hero in South Korea.
But, he was connected (Ggangpae) South Korea Mafia out of Busan. I'm sure the 'boys'
were trying to make Larry Rozadilla 'do the right thing'. Those Busan Boys were
experts in ruthless extortion.
Can't figure out why they 'hit on Larry' after the bout, instead of before the bout....... :??
So how did Yum and his camp react to the kerfuffle?
Re: Larry Rozadilla (August 1, 1976 )
Fascinating stuff. The most incredible thing was that Jose Sulaiman vowed to clean up boxing when he was elected. We now know that he could actually help clean up boxing by retiring.

Probably, but you'd think he wouldn't have his father's unilateral control and patriarchial influence when it comes to the voting. But then that just opens the door for another scumbag who sees dollar signs instead of the good of the sport I expect.Rover wrote:Won't his son just take over?Flump wrote:Fascinating stuff. When discussing how to recognize the Top 10 Boxers in a division, he actually stood there with a straight face
and said that each Champion in each of the WBC recognized affiliated organizations was worthy of a Top 10 rating.
