Im sure it used to be the norm thing. I think Frank Maloney mentioned that Eugene his brother bet half his purse that he would win with an onsite bookie before one of his fights. It ended in a draw. Would like to see it though

sorry i meant online betting , you can bet on anything nowadays i guess. You think it would it be a good thing?
Re: Small Hall Shows - Boxing Betting ?
pointless most small shows only hav one or 2 competative fights on the prices on a prospect against a journey man wudnt b worth betting (even on a acca). most shows r john smith v tba all the way down the card up until days b4 a show apart from the main event. if their is a decent main event u can always ask in the bookies in the build up to it i hav.
Re: Small Hall Shows - Boxing Betting ?
i think part of the problem would be that on a lot of small hall shows they arent competitive fights from a betting point of view so it would be hard to justify opening a market on the fights

For some i think it would be a good idea. For instance, there is a possibility of a big domestic match up in Coventry (Flinn v McKervey) and i'd imagine there would be a good market for that fight locally and in the hall on the night

My thoughts are that I wish the bookies would do this - I would have my mortgage paid off in no time !Alba wrote:What are folks thoughts on this , i dont think its ever been done before as far i can remeber

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Re: Small Hall Shows - Boxing Betting ?
I think bookies may be put off due to the fact 'matchfixing' would be so easy.
For example it could potentially be in a journeymans best interests to bet on what round the fight is stopped.

Yup, and as long as I was in on it I have no problem at all with it :-)MrJasonM wrote:I think bookies may be put off due to the fact 'matchfixing' would be so easy.

This should never be allowed by the BBBC at any show especially little shows like this, well one things for sure if the bookie takes a beating the show won't get sponsored again!

Think I might join mcbookie, money to be made there!!! EVS on mccallum is not bad!
Re: Small Hall Shows - Boxing Betting ?
stopped gambling on boxing altho that's through knowing somebody in the sport. You follow somebody from scratch then a big fight comes up and all of a sudden they're 9/2 outsiders cos the bookies haven't got a clue who they are. I wouldn't try to make money on a pal if that person could get smashed up or hurt so really it is just an extension of that.
As for having it at the venue....so and so gets KO'd and carried out with an oxygen mask "get in! I'm off to pick up me winnings now..."........It's not for me, that's all.

You raise a fair point and well put over. This is for an online bookies, there won't be anyactual bookies within the hall or on the premisesNorthEastBoxingFan wrote:stopped gambling on boxing altho that's through knowing somebody in the sport. So if there not at the venue (which has been done before,Scott Harrisons fights at breahead) then what's new about it?Alba wrote:You raise a fair point and well put over.
