Meaningless titles?
I agree with the gold it's pointless but these meaning less titles are sometimes a boxers world title , like if he is a journeyman too win a southern area would be a massive achievement so I dis agree with your post sorry

Area titles used to mean something, look at some of the names that used ti fight for them. But allthese other titles are ruining the Area titles for me

I agree winning an area title then progressing to a british shot. But surely you cant go on making up title after title, its bloody getting daft. Will we have a silver and bronze title next? before long every boxer in a division will hold a title.

Absolutely correct mate I despair with all of the so called titles i.e. masters and international masters etc which are just a way of extracting cash in sanctioning fees etc also extracting cash from gullible punters

The whole Masters thing is IMO a silly idea. You earn a title by being good enough (I know thats glossing over some important inequalities and corruption but bear with), not as a reward for long service or because your promoter wants something to put on the posters.

On their less-than-up-to-date website they list Lee Swaby as of November 2010, the HW champion. He's not fought since October 2010, losing that one and the previous 5. I think thats a blinding example all round.

The small hall promoters say they need these belts.

If it means the boxers get paid more money then they would do for an untitled ten rounder, then fair enough, but do they? Does fighting for a 'Masters' belt actually bring more punters in? Or does it just give the boxers/promoters something else to say, and something to put on the posters?

How much are the 'sanctioning' fees? How much does Bruce Baker charge for turning up with the belt in a carrier bag? Would the boxer prefer the belt, or a couple of hundred quid more?

Who are the masters champions? Is the public not allowed to know? It's about time PBPA or whoever dishes them out updated their website. If I was a promoter, who, presumably, had paid a membership fee to this association, i'd expect them to be a lot more active.

It's all a bit mickey mouse, like a lot of things in boxing.

Yes mate and if you read their rules on eligibility to contest their titles you will see they breech their own rules on a regular basis in order to put these titles on

None whatsoever

But these titles are sometimes put on in breech of their own rules as regards eligibility to contest the title

I'm 42, had some distractions in my life of boxing so only turned pro last year, I fight as a pro, not a "masters pro", I fight any one up to 24 years my junior and don't bitch with excuses. This pudendum won a "Masters World Title" against his training partner http://wentworth-courier.whereilive.com ... rld-title/ FFS! I have no problem with masters fights, in fact I think they're a great thing, so too are the "executive" fights, am all for them.
In the case of this Maydad Ronen clown, I have a big problem with liers. Why wasn't he at the Master's Games? Why didn't he fight fellow Masters fighter, Frank Ropis for the title?

The Masters title was maybe started with the best of intentions some years back, but is now pointless, especially the "International Masters" variant.

It's often cited by local press etc as the "British title" as well, which does my nut in. The local paper did it a few years ago calling Cello Renda the "British Champion".

Anyway, eagerly awaiting the first Interim International Masters Youth Silver title bout.

Football cups are all regulated and predictable. This is much more like Bradford vs Crewe in the league being unexpectedly billed as for the "North West and North Wales International Silver Masters Cup", when there have been no previous rounds for such a cup and nobody knows who's eligible or how you enter.

I agree mate but dont forget the international BRACES as well as thats about all thats left LOL I dont have a problem with the masters if they were adhering to their rules which quite clearly states that all contestants must have had at least 10 contests and also must have fought over 8 x 3 at least once so IMO the whole thing is Mickey Mouse if they keep breeching their own rules in the pursuit of sanctioning fees Just google British Masters Titles to see their rules

They are in a round about way. You pay Bruce 250 quid and he will send you a belt or turn up with it if your really lucky and what usually happens is the promoter gets one of the events sponsors to present the belt at the conclusion of bout. The BBBoC have nothing to do with the belt at all and do not conduct check weigh ins even though there are now "gold" belts of 12 rounds duration (which the board could find themselves in dangerous waters over). Remember that Bruce/Luxembourg still have a court battle ongoing with the board so who knows what's going on behind closed doors.
