The bout should be listed a No Contest, and not a "decision (for Kilbane) on a technicality" as the next-day United Press report called it.
Cleveland Plain Dealer, February 1, 1911.
Write-up by J.P. Garvey:
No decision was rendered in the Attell-Kilbane go. The referee declared in the presence of a dozen persons yesterday afternoon that his verdict was "no contest."
Tommy Kilbane, interviewed by Henry P. Edwards:
"I know that as a fighter I am not given credit with being in Attell's class, but at the same time I think if the bout had not been called off as it was, I would have gained the decision."
"I really think I should have been given the decision and received credit for knocking Attell out."
