Broner looks huge standing next to Rees. Broner is an annoying prick - the type you will always root against. I hope Rees gives a good account of himself and sees the final bell, or even better nails Broner with a wonder punch, we can live in hope. Good luck to the Rock :TU:

Rees really comes across as a good bloke. He is obviously up against it but doesn't seem to get rattled. I hope he shocks the lot of them.

(Gary Lockett is someone to be admired as well - very impressive, an intelligent man).

gavin rees looks a very small lightweight, certainly not 5'7 as listed on boxrec, looks more like 5'4. 5'5 max. broner wil get the KO by the 6th round, the reach, strength, power and height will be too much

I agree with your judgement of how the fight will pan out but Rees was the same height when he boxed at light welter (and won a world title).

Yeah boxrec had him as 5ft4 a few years ago. I dunno why the hell they have him at 5ft7 now you'd have to be a tool to think he was that tall.

Eddie Hearn has just tweeted that the ring walk time can be anything from 3:45am to 4:30am

Rees may be small for a lightweight but he's always used his jab well even against far bigger men. I expect Broner will be the one trying to get on the inside past Gav's jab to be honest.

Timings... Whittaker v Hopkins 2.35-ish on the world feed. Escobedo-Cherry is before that but will be filmed. Then HBO go on air at 3.30, beginning with Sjekloca-Bika, so the time of the Broner-Rees fight depends on how long that lasts. That's why nobody can be precise about it. Hope that helps.

What a fu#king cock. I have never wanted to see anyone take a pasting as bad as I do Broner. I just read in BN that he 'transcends boxing'. Does he fu#k. His head might but that's all.

Bell. End.

Rees is reportedly making at least $100k USD, which is roughly 65k pounds, while Broner will likely make several times more than that based on his previous purses.

Not sure where you heard this but rees is making 200,000 English. Broner about 2 and half times that. Like Eddie Hearn said Gavin is earning a life changing sum of money 65k is most certainly not.
I posted a link to where it was reported so you should know where I heard it.

I also noted that Rees was making at least 100k/65k, which he is.

Broner has improved greatly since fighting Ponce De Leon, so you'd be making the case based on an inaccurate representation of Broner's current form.

It would be similiar to making a case that domestic level fighters would beat Ricky Burns on the basis of Burns's wide loss to Carl Johanneson.

Excellent post Crusader.

Plus Ponce De Leon is a two time world champion who has beaten some of the best in the division during his time. Who has Gav beaten remotely in the same league as Ponce De Leon?

Who had Honeyghan beaten before he beat Donald Curry?

Exactly.

What differences between the two cases render them generally dissimilar? In both cases a basis of analysis is a fight that isn't representative of either boxer's current form, and therefore flawed analyses are produced.

Ponce is a world class fighter and Broner was only 21 at the time of the bout. It was also a huge step-up for him, as his best prior opponent was arguably Willie Kickett. Since that fight Broner's confidence in the ring has grown tremendously, and it's evident in his recent performances.

Broner is NOT Floyd. People have to look past the bluster, he is looking great against a certain type of fighter. Even Demarco seemed to get close and DO NOTHING, GR is still an ex world champ and a tenacious bastard. I think he will make a good fight of it.

Broner is more hype tan substance.....so far..

One doesn't need to be remotely as good as Floyd to beat Gavin Rees without problems.

So what if Rees is a former world champ? Ponce and Demarco are/were more credible world champions than Rees was, but you stated that Ponce cannot box and you won't give Broner credit for beating Demarco.

If anything, Rees's tenacity will play to one of Broner's strengths--his counterpunching.

Upsets happen, and part of what makes them special is their improbability; more often than not a fighter who is more proven and displays superior ability will defeat a fighter who is less proven and apparently less competent. It is, therefore, inappropriate to suggest that cases like Honeyghan-Curry greatly limit the relevance of Rees's comparable shortcomings and lack of high level wins.

Earlier you said that Broner hasn't proved anything to you, but will he have proved something positive about himself to you if he wins nearly every round and stops Rees, who is someone you consider a good boxer?
