Rees v Broner Spoiler
Broner wins in Round 5 with continuous punishment. Gary Lockett threw in the towel at 2:59.
Broner is on a different planet from the Lightweights, no one will get near him.
Unlucky Gav mate, you gave it your best shot.

Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Rees clearly won the first two rounds imo, but Broner heated up from there and the difference in class showed.
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Still want to see burns in with him, I think burns longer reach and harder accurate punches will give bronner a few problems !
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
You think that Burns punches harder than Broner? Broner also has a longer reach than Burns, at least according to Boxrec.
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
No, I was talking about bronners opponents so farcrusader wrote:You think that Burns punches harder than Broner? Broner also has a longer reach than Burns, at least according to Boxrec.
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
In terms of power and reach I don't think that Burns is superior to Demarco, although he clearly has much better skills than Demarco does.jessi wrote:No, I was talking about bronners opponents so farcrusader wrote:You think that Burns punches harder than Broner? I'm interested in how Broner deals with Burns's combination of size and boxing skills.
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
I thought Eddie Hearn was clued up.. On about putting Rees in with Burns next what a way to finish a guys career.. That would end like the Mitchell fight.. Rees should fight British Level then wait till Broner and Burns move up then give it another go.. I like Rees but he's European Level at best
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Totally agree, if burns comes through his march fight well, I think Bronner will be next in the early summer !crusader wrote:In terms of power and reach I don't think that Burns is superior to Demarco, although he clearly has much better skills than Demarco does.jessi wrote:No, I was talking about bronners opponents so farcrusader wrote:You think that Burns punches harder than Broner? Hopefully Ricky can take a few fans out to America with him...
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
I'll watch the replay at 9am. Broner obviously looks to be in a different class to the other guys in the division. After he has cleared it out against the winner of Burns v Vazquez I assume he'll move up to light welter and eventually welter.
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Anyone know what Rees was paid for the fight ?

Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
I thought Rees did pretty well considering that he was written of as a bum by many of the Yanks on CS. He clearly won the first 2 rounds and and was pretty competitive throughout. At least unlike Locket against Pavlik and Jennings against Cotto, Rees can say he really gave it a good go, but came up short.
As for Burns, I have bet against him in the past and been wrong - but I will continue todo so if he fights Broner. His win against Martinez is his best win, but he had to climb off the deck to do that. Broner hits harder and wouldn't be suprised to see Broner do that Burns. I think Burns would love the fight against Broner but his management will find away to price him out.

Agree that Burns would be keener than his management, and that Broner would be a step too far.

Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
I was impressed by Gavin's performance he won the first two rounds and I was surprised by how many times he caught Broner clean with his vaunted defence but he couldn't make a dent at all. Even when he got put down and hurt he still got up and straight back in there. The difference in power was immense.
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Broner looks a real superstar. I can't see Burns beating him, no way in a million years.
Will be interesting to see how Broner's power travels up the weights. I'd already say he'd beat everyone at light welter now and would rate him as a better long term prospect than Alvarez.

Can't believe how many peopel gave Rees a real chance in this fight.
Broner is top drawer and the gulf in class and power was évident. Burns will fare no better if he steps into the ring with Broner.

Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Gav did himself proud in there. And did land plenty on Broner: he just didn't have the legs to keep up the hit and move game plan or the power to trouble Broner. He probably could have roughed it out for a few more rounds but was only going to take a beating: great call by Lockett. Burns or Vasquez would definitely cause problems with their movement. Also, just imagine if it was Rios landing clean with lefthooks rather than Rees. Broner is damn good but the first L on his ledger might not be too far away.
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Big difference in getting behind someone you WANT to win as opposed to thinking they will. yes i had a tenner on Rees, because the odds were good but more importantly i wanted him to win sooo badly, it doesn;t get away from the fact that deep down i thought he would lose.forcefraser wrote:Can't believe how many peopel gave Rees a real chance in this fight.

too many ponces on here get on their high horse about having superior knowledge to others
Most people on here:
a: wanted Rees to win
b: knew he wouldn't
Nothing wrong with that, and also i love how you KNOW that burns would lose....do you? really?

Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Broner is clearly a classy fighter, and this added to the fact that he's massive at the weight, what I call a 'world class weight maker', was too much for Rees. Still want to see Burns in with him tho, someone who will be as big on the night, someone who will be patient and stick to a game plan. For me Rees lost patience far too early, when he was moving in the first 2 Broner didn't get anything off, someone going outside the left hook counter will take away a massive part of Broners arsenal, too many get drawn into Broners type of fight, hold their feet and then get picked apart. A good solid jab, footwork and lots & lots of patience will give Broner a 'Problem'!!
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Burns should fight Broner, its a no lose fight for him, if he loses Broner moves up and Burns can still go on to dominate the division. If he wins he is a global superstar of boxing.

MachoMan09 wrote:Broner knew very early on that Rees didn't have the power to hurt him, I don't think he'd have got clipped as often were he in with a guy who could bang, we'll have to wait and see. I think he should move up and chase some big fights at light-welterweight. There's nothing at lightweight. Apart from him, it's a very weak division.black panther wrote:Gav did himself proud in there. True Broner probably would be more cautious with someone with more pop though I disagree that there is nothing at lightweight. I want to see Broner vs Bunrs/Vasquez; as impressive as Broner was he still is very flat footed. I would still favour Broner but Burns & Vasquez are decent sized lightweights whose natural style is to box on the outside and utilize movement. We saw in the first couple of rounds when Rees did this he had some success. He just got drawn in by Broner and was slowed down by his heavy shots to both body and head.
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Hopefully when/if burns beats vazquez the two titles he brings and the chance to unify 3 titles will make it a mouth watering prospect for all involved and give burns more bargaining power, you never know the ring may even throw in their title now JMM has moved up.MachoMan09 wrote:It's a conundrum. Realistically, Burns is bringing nothing to the table. It's largely down to if Broner's people believe he is ready to move up or not. They're using the weak lightweight division as a testing ground before moving him up to where the real money is. If they think he needs another fight or two at lightweight, Burns has almost certainly got to figure. It will likely be Ricky's one and only shot at the big time, so the money has to be good but, at the same time, he's not really in a position to hold them to ransom.Finn wrote:Burns should fight Broner, its a no lose fight for him, if he loses Broner moves up and Burns can still go on to dominate the division. Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Prettu sure it was said "real boxing people" know this is going to be a real fight and those who know nothing about boxing are saying broner wins easy. Lets have it right, rees won first easily and second but Broner was clearly having a look and getting his timing. We also had some saying broner will win a robbery etc...MachoMan09 wrote:The fight panned out in the fashion the vast majority of people expected. Other than the usual band of Optimistic-Brits, most predictions I saw were for a Broner stoppage no later than the middle rounds.
All about levels.
Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
I found it highly unlikely Rees would win, but did forecast him to prob go the 12 and give Broner problems along the way with his busy bursts and lack of height.
I based that on what I'd saw so far.
But afterwards, the size of him, the way punches bounced off him and the hurtful and accurate shots - made me a believer.
People have said that they thought he was easy to hit etc. I think yes, some shots did surprise him , but he was almost making a fight of it for the fan's sake.
Against a belt holder like Burns he would bring his absolute A-game, which spells bad news for Scottish fans.
I'd like Burns to win, but can't see it I'm afraid.
Previously I said he was more Lacy than Mayweather so far, sadly I think I'm going to eat my words.

Re: Rees v Broner Spoiler
Broner is still young, if he can still do the weight comfortably I'd be happy to see him beat Burn/Vasquez or Abril before moving up.
