Aussie heavyweights. Who are our top 5?

Post by Like a Boss »

Heavies have never been our best division. But we have a more even batch at the moment than we have had for a while. Who do you see as our best 5 heavies in order??

To save us the 'he's not really Australian because he wasn't born here shit'. The Leapais, Meehans and so forth are in. So don't go playing the race card.

I like your list. Leapai stands out head and shoulders at 1 and Haumono has picked up titles his last 2 fights. Meehan is on the slide but probably has the best CV of all. Browne is on the up.

Lucas (Big Daddy ) Brown should have the top spot by the end of the year, followed by Leapai, Haumono, Demori then Ben Edwards if we happen to see him again.

You can ask people to not waste threads with the same old stuff but obviously there will always be one that takes it a invitation to do just that

I always found it odd that Australia/New Zealand didn't produce more (good) heavyweights. You've got a lot of big men in rugby and Aussie Rules, so it's not that there are no big fellas around. Up here in Canada all our big guys go into other sports. Doesn't help that the media seems to rate boxing somewhere between pedophilia and drug dealing. But they have plenty of ink and airtime for the bloody hugging and kicking of MMA. I imagine they're somewhat the same down under.

Similar problem here. The best athletes over 100kgs usually play one of the football codes.

In Australian boxing you have to get a long way up the tree to make a lot of money, so there is little incentive for the big men to get involved.

Solid list mate, i had it identical to yours, but thought Meehan is on his way out, so i put Big Daddy above him.

Yeah Meehan seems on the way out doesnt he.

I can't really put big daddy anywhere on the list with great confidence because i just don't know how good he is/can be. In his first 5 or 6 fights i thought he was totally limited and simply relying on his power, which would result in him getting ko'ed as soon as he fought someone who could take a punch, but he has shown a lot of technical improvement so who knows where he is headed. All we can do is watch and hope he continues to improve.

I also think that a fight between Leapai and Haumono would be more competetive than most others think.

Meehan is the difficult one to place. Is he retired? Is he shot? Dunno.

Heavyweights are like race horses. Form is too hard to follow.
