Please correct the time: It ended with the referee stopping the fight at 2:42 into the second round (0:18 left in the round).

Referee Roger Yanez was widely criticized for failing to stop the fight after Benton was pinned in the corner and knocked unconscious by Garcia. Benton took 32 unanswered punches before finally falling, and even then, Yanez began to administer a 10-count before finally realizing that Benton was out. Yanez was later suspended by the Arizona State Boxing Commission.
