Mayweather-v-Mitchell
Sharmba-PBF has made it onto boxrec's schedule for 19th November. Had a look for some news to try and confirm it but nothing as yet.
If it does go ahead, what does it mean?
I'd assume this is happening at welter, and if that's the case, then I doubt Mayweather will be back down to Light welter again.
That means, no Mayweather fight for Hatton, at 140 at least.
That means, Junior Witter fighting for the vacant WBC title.
That might mean, Hatton -v- Witter for WBA, WBA & IBF titles some time next year.
That would definitely mean, a lot of gentleman's pants going to the laundrette if and when it happens

IF May moves to WW I'm diapointed - firstly hes too small at 147 - and at some stage will be found out (size wise), but most of all Hatton-Mayweather is the biggest fight in boxing at the moment
I actually change my mind about what would happen in a Mayweather-Hatton fight - I sometimes see Hatton been too strong and relentless for Mayweather and forcing him to the ropes. And then other times I see PBF just picking off Ricky all night and it going pretty much the same way as the Gatti fight went. But thats just why it should happen.

Well, Sky are reporting it as well:
http://www.skysports.com/skysports/arti ... 50,00.html
Can't say I'm that excited about the actual fight, seems like an easy Mayweather win for me. And whilst a Mayweather-Judah bout would be good, I'd still prefer to see Floyd in with Hatton, especially if he wants to call himself a 3 weight champ.
As for Witter fighting for a vacant belt, I wouldn't be surprised if the WBC just give it Branco, and make Witter fight another eliminator, what with all the favours they've done the Italian.
Seriously though, it would be great if Witter could claim the belt. As you say, Hatton-Witter for all the belts would be a big night. I expect things aren't going to be that easy though.

Do you think Hatton vs Mayweather is the biggest fight in boxing.... Never really thought of it in that terms, but you could be right. Whilst it is a biggie, I always thought with Hatton a brit and Mayweather no that popular/not liked it would not be as big as their talent might make it. Although, in hindisght I cannot think of many that would be bigger, or any I would look forward to more.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:IF May moves to WW I'm diapointed - firstly hes too small at 147 - and at some stage will be found out (size wise), but most of all Hatton-Mayweather is the biggest fight in boxing at the moment

Hopkins (if he gets revenge) vs Wright / Klitchsko vs Toney / Moseley vs Judah are probably the only fights that could do better in the box office.
This is a poor fight for Mayweather...
Mayweather last fought a genuine World class operator in 2002' (Castillo II) since then his level of opposition has been poor to say the least.
He's supossed to be the "P4P No.1" but you wouldn't have thought it by the type of fights he keeps arranging.
I'm starting to get the feeling that he doesn't want to fight Hatton at all.

Welcome to the forum Martin,
I do disagree with your post however, whilst some people argue that Gatti is overated and some have called him an average world champion. I think to call him not world class is going a bit to the extreme.
Corely is also world class. As is Mitchell.
Although, I was quite surprised when you pointed out that it was 2002 when he beat Castillo the second time - he hasn't been as active as I would like to see him.

Thanks for the welcome... stujones. :)
It was Dec 2002' when Mayweather and Castillo got it on the 2nd time.
I suppose it is a little unfair to call fighters like Corley/Gatti not world class when they have both held World titles before. I think I'm just getting a little frustrated with Mayweather, because he's in the hottest division right now, and he's leaving it to face a 38yr old Sharmba Mitchell.
I want Mayweather to fight someone young and hungry like Cotto or Hatton, or a wiley pro that's not over the hill yet like Witter or Margarito.
I already know the result to the Mayweather vs Mitchell fight before it's started.
I just feel that a fighter that wears the P4P No.1 tag should be fighting the best available opposition.

I don't think Cotto would fight Hatton. The last thing he wants is a guy who will come after him, with that weak chin of his.darkstar81 wrote:i think hatton v cotto will be built up and in the making for the next 12 to 15 months both holding their titles until their head on collision in late 2006 early 2007 at which point it will be the biggest fight in boxing. mayweather's taking the easy route unless this is just a warm up for judah
Mayweather is trying to have as many options as possible, and get the most money as possible. Whatever fight pays more, I'm sure he'll take. (Judah, or Hatton.)
If Mayweather keeps moving up, there are a huge amount of possibilities...
Mayweather - Judah
Mayweather - Mosley
Mayweather - Forrest
Mayweather - Karmazin
Mayweather - Mayorga
Mayweather - Vargas
Hell, maybe even Mayweather - Taylor, if he's crazy enough.
The point being, you shouldn't be disappointed... Especially seeing how Hatton won't have that huge risk to his title, while still having interesting fights...
The possibilities are still endless...
Gatti, Diaz, Castillo, Witter, Freitas, etc...

Delahoya my ass. Why do people want to see someone who has lost three fights straight and hasn't fought in a fornicating year? Must be just british people who haven't got the word yet that delahoya is fornicating through.stujones wrote:Never thought I would be saying this but Mayweather vs Oscar De La Hoya isn't such an idiotic pipe dream now. Noticing DLH looking a lot trimmer on the Barrera bill, he's is fighting next year and I believe still says it will be at 147 lbs.
A self proclaimed P4P #1 like mayweather will prove nothing by beating a shit to all shit delafruitcake especially next year when he is even older and more shot to hell.
Mayweather overrated? What are you smoking manRubio MHS wrote:mayweather is overrated. he hasn't done shit recently of note. mitchell is finished. beating him means nothing. p4p #1 my fornicating ass. maybe in his mind.
Do you guys not think that Mayweather maybe a little bit overrated?
I hear a lot of talk on the internet like Mayweather is some super-natural human being that could fight guys at middleweight and beat them, but d'you not think it's a little bit of a myth?
I only ask, because I've always thought that the best way to predict the outcome of fights is to use facts over opinions and heart.
What I'm trying to say is that I don't believe I've really seen Mayweather fight a genuine top class opponent at 140lbs yet. Gatti was ok, but has never been in the top league, and at this stage of his career is unfortunatly showing signs of being a shot fighter. (I won't bother mentioning Bruseles), and Corley is a nearly man, but interestingly If you watch the 3rd and 4th round of the Mayweather vs Corley fight you'll see that it is possible to imagine Mayweather getting knocked out by someone of higher class. Corley is a terrible finisher, I don't know why he hurts a guy with a head shot and decides to work the body?
I'm not trying to down play Mayweather, he's an exceptional talent... But I've always believed that it's easy for a guy like Mayweather to look like a million dollars when he's fighting - Sosa, N'dou, Corley, Bruseles, Gatti... It's quite different when the bar is raised a little i.e. Cotto, Hatton, Witter.

Good post, although not sure you can count Witter as elite yet. He hasn't done as much as Gatti and looked beatable (infact I thought he lost last time) in his last two outings, when his opponents have improved.
Things is, and I maybe in the minority, I haven't really seen Mayweather in any major problem or at any stage in his career have I thought during a fight - he COULD lose this (let alone, he is going to lose this). I cannot say the same thing about Mayweather's Light Welterweight rivals - to lesser fighters aswell (Hatton vs Magee and Cotto last time out).
What I saw vs Corely was the he was briefly (but definately) hurt, wobled backed to the ropes but recovered within 5 seconds. Yes, Corely is a poor finisher but Mayweather used his amazing defensive to evade anything else Corely had to offer when hurt.
Also, he's getting better - he was dogged with hand trouble early on (remember, he beat P4P contender Castillo with damaged hands). These seem to be gone, or at least less documented, and he is definately hitting harder in recent fights. Look at the easy he handled Corely in comparison to Cotto vs Corely.
Yes, I think Middleweight will be too much but the way he has improved in his recent fights I find it hard to see who can beat him much before that weight. I actually thought Gatti would win, I thought Gatti's own durability and power would get him through via tough KO - but he made him look terrible, Gatti didn't look terrible vs Leija.
Who can give Mayweather problems.
Hatton - Might have the style, but defensively to easy to hit.
Tszyu - actually the fighter I give the biggest chance because Mayweather doesn't like to dictate the pace (which is how Hatton beat Kostya). Kostya, when the agressor, cuts the ring down brilliantly and can whack a bit.
Cotto - Looks too easy to hit in recent fight, has weight issues.
Judah - As skilled as he is, I just think Floyd is a little quicker, a little more skilled and has the much better chin.
Maragito - Framewise could be intriguing, but he getting outboxed by Santos - so I am sure Floyd won't have much problems.
Moseley - Too slow these days.
The one 147 pounder I give a big chance is Oscar De La Hoya, for the same reasons why I gave Gatti a chance - but Oscar is that little bit better all over than Gatti. His speed is still good, he'd be naturally the bigger man and I don't think Floyd will hurt him.
At 154 with Wright moving up, none of the champions there are inspiring. Its a poor devision and I can see all the Welterweight major names (Spinks/Moseley/Judah/Margarito) beating alot of the Light Midddleweight top ten.

hey mate, nice to see ya here
I think he obviously is the most talented boxer on the planet, but is he as talented a fighter?
We dont know this yet cos he hasnt fought anyone who is good enough to taker him too deep so far.
The right thing to do is to clean up the division before movign up, but that has never bothered PBF in the past and it doesnt a seem to be a factor here either.
Shame.
Doesn't he just have an axe to grind with DLH because of his father training him?!
I think he needs to move up to DLH size before DLH does hang up his gloves. Oscar wouldn't be interested at fighting at 140 but may be tempted to fight PBF at 154. PBF is taking biggish fights at each weight level, the only war/career defining fight he wants is Oscar!

Stu have you seen his first fight with Castillo? He certainly has some major problems in that fight, I thought he edged it but it was pretty close.stujones wrote:Good post, although not sure you can count Witter as elite yet. Kostya Tszyu really excels when fighting guys like Mayweather with fast hands! He plays the waiting game, get's them to relax a little and then BANG! The heavy right-hand lands right on the button when they least expect it!
I thought he was dropping to 154 to fight Mayorga? He is the mandatory challenger anyway.stujones wrote:Never thought I would be saying this but Mayweather vs Oscar De La Hoya isn't such an idiotic pipe dream now. This fight could happen.
