Re: What's Next For Price?
Thompson rematch is a ridiculous idea, unless you want to bury Price.
You can't teach a man what Thompson knows, what he is, what he can do under pressure. He just 'is' a cool, clever, cunning customer who can whip out these sneaky shots from strange places. He will always know too much for Price. You can teach a big, strong, tall man to box in Price's basic fashion, and he might well pummel a string of well selected men if he is good enough. But he is always going to be facing a crunching KO when you pitch him against a bloke like Thompson, who really knows what he is doing in there.
Price = 1d. Thompson = 2d.

Thought it was poor form that Sky announced the result during Prizefighter - a few people were recording one whilst watching the other.
Commiserations to Price, he took his defeat well I thought. I like the bloke, he's a gent.

That's not good. He really should turn it in if that's true mate.

Re: What's Next For Price?
That weren't a really hard punch; it's as well he didn't get hit by anyone at the top level else he'd be badly hurt. Fury would beat him as would Chisora and Haye (easily).

He needs to drop Franny Smith. fornicate knows what that glorified childminder's teaching him.
Re: What's Next For Price?
Thompson not interested in a rematch as he said he wasn't paid a fair amount this time. He did it for the opportunity to get his name back up there. He said he would like to fight Fury.
For Price, this is just a hiccup, was a 'freak shot', Davids words not mine, which I agree with. Can't say he doesn't have a chin when he got an ear drum perforated.
Davids next move should be a rematch with Thompson but unless they pay over the odds it likely won't happen.

Re: What's Next For Price?
Do't think there'd be quite the amount of understanding regarding 'ear shots' and chin shots if it were Thompson done by a glancing shot. We'd be hearing about the massive concussive power of Price. Thompsonv Fury is a good bout to make but Price was done within the rules and against expectation, if the man cannot take it then toward the top ratings someone will land a hard punch - can't all be roses can it?dbf wrote:Thompson not interested in a rematch as he said he wasn't paid a fair amount this time. I now feel confident saying that his chin is quite poor. To suggest that it isn't is to ignore the evidence imo:dbf wrote:Thompson not interested in a rematch as he said he wasn't paid a fair amount this time. Dropped three times by Vargehese Johnson in the Commonwealths, dropped by a Welsh fighter in the 4 Nations, dropped by Fury in the ABAs, knocked out by Bermane Stiverne in the Tammer Tournament, knocked out by Cammarelle in the Olympics, rocked in his pro debut by Ingleby, and heavily dropped and stopped by Thompson.
Vyacheslav Glazkov also claims to have dropped Price three times when they fought in 2006, but this isn't confirmed like the other examples.
When Price gets hit, he gets hurt.

The bigger they are the harder they fall.
Re: What's Next For Price?
Rogan should be next for Price and then Chisora later in the year.
Re: What's Next For Price?
Seriously how many watching prizefighter have that channel! Price has been bought along to slowly Thompson was a step up from Skelton !G0mez wrote:Thought it was poor form that Sky announced the result during Prizefighter - a few people were recording one whilst watching the other.

Re: What's Next For Price?
For some reason I had a Haye Thompson flashback, Price clearly boxing better but used to having it all his own way got careless. As a fan I'd love to see Chisora v Price but I don't think that would be good for ether fighter, the winner beats a tarnished boxer coming of a (3) loss, the loser's career as a serious boxer will be over.
If price and Thompson fought 10 times Price would find the shot before Thompson 9 of those times, but that's boxing. I would get him in against someone mediocre (Towers) for confidence building then start building his opponents up again. Perhaps a Chisora or Helenius followed by a rematch if (and it's a big if) Thompson is up for it.
There are two few boxers around in the HW devision for it to be over for Price, but it's clear if he were a contemparary of Lewis, Hollyfield, Bow, Tyson et al he'd be an also ran.

Re: What's Next For Price?
A perforated eardrum is not an automatic KO and it doesn't nullify concerns about Price's chin.
Froch has had a perforated eardrum in several fights (examples: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/others ... oxing.html, http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/13662426 against Johnson, http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/ap ... ix-abraham re: the Kessler fight). In each case it affected his balance and was doubtless rather painful, but it didn't stop him. Why? Cos Froch has punch resistance, and Price doesn't.
While I've really enjoyed watching Price smash up domestic opposition - his power is really something to behold - he's stiff, he waves his hands around so much he forgets about what's coming back at him and his defence relies too much on simply being taller than his opponent. Sadly these are not things that are going to be fixed by going back to the drawing board - going back to his former level of opposition would simply reinforce his reliance on being bigger and having discouraging power. He needs to fight at this level but work on being a defensive boxer - stiffen his jab and get lighter on his feet - to get that dodgy chin out of harm's way. He won't be able to smash everybody out above domestic level and so the priority must be to not get hit if he wants to go far.
I maintain Fury has his beating if they ever meet. Fury gets up and comes back when he goes down, and there is no way he fails to land more than a few heavy shots on Price with his handspeed and height advantage.

Re: What's Next For Price?
This is boxing and this result means the quickest route to a world tiltle shop as he know seems very beatable.
Vlad is chinny too but adapted his style to best use is physical advantages with the jab and hold technique. price needs to do this to survive above British title level.
To be honest it really was a nothing shot, certainly not flush.

I think Thompson may get a fight with Povetkin next, if Wlad takes a fight before him and Povetkin get it on.
I was Frank, I'd put Price into a Commonwealth title defence against Alex Leapai, Mark de Mori or Shane Cameron.
