Audley Harrison : Winning prizefighter could be a bad thing.
Audley Harrison winning prizefighter could be a bad thing. After Harrison's humiliating loss to Price, it was time to chuck the towel in and end a career that never really took shape in the first place. Harrison was found out years ago in his loss to Danny Williams. Subsequent other losses to Rogan, Haye and Price just confirmed what we already had gathered, that Harrison was a gun shy fighter not suited to the professional ranks. Audley had the style and the chat, so it was obvious that he was going to try and stay in the sun for a while longer and earn some cash. However, the guy is now 41 years of age and he ain't no Bernard Hopkins. Audleys rather ludicrous statements on television in variuos interviews show that he has either his tongue firmly set in his cheek or he has lost his marbles. Maybe a combination of the two is the answer. Audley can talk about the loss of the bbc deal breaking his heart, that he wasn't happy so wasn't focused etc etc. That is ok, because it's words, but boxing unfortunatly involves punches.
Audley won a kareoke version of boxing last night, a competition that lacks serious quality and smacks of pantomime entertainment. Because he has won this competition, people are talking of him being in amongst it again at the heart of the current domestic scene. The price defeat proved that not only is Harrison lacking in quality, he is too old and has little or no punch resistance. Watching him last night was like watching a rabbit in the headlights, he looked scared to death every time a punch came near him. Luckily he was fighting no more than pub bouncers or bar room brawlers. Audely ought to take the money, take the grinning, half laughing applause and retire for good. I fear that if he carries on fighting, the day will come where he will get seriously hurt in the ring. The guy lost weight and looks feeble to me. He actually looked like Chris byrd when he dropped down to light heavyweight and i don't want Harrison to get demolished the way Byrd did at the end of his career. Audley is still a likeable guy and i wish he would retire and do it now !!

The man is delusional. Perhaps he has genuine belief in himself. I feel he is in danger of getting hurt too.
As for prizefighters latest instalment. Fcukin woeful. Why we're half of them allowed to fight. I felt that if Lewison reached the final(which he should have) he would have knocked A farce clean out.

the weirdest thing about harrison is that he looks frit to death in the ring but keeps getting back in.
he will have a couple of more fights and lose and finally pack it in i guess. as for getting seriously hurt he is big and has taken knock outs without further problems thus far so I see no reason why he is in any more danger than other fighters.

That day is still here if he continues to fight at a decent level.
Re: Audley Harrison : Winning prizefighter could be a bad thing.
I'd guess he spars/fights guys he can handle, builds his confidence, and then see's it zapped when he faces someone half decent.rm1 wrote:the weirdest thing about harrison is that he looks frit to death in the ring but keeps getting back in.
Go Aud, though
Re: Audley Harrison : Winning prizefighter could be a bad thing.
To be fair he's spent good money on quality spars in the past and was in with Malik Scott for Prizefighter.JamesH wrote:I'd guess he spars/fights guys he can handle, builds his confidence, and then see's it zapped when he faces someone half decent.rm1 wrote:the weirdest thing about harrison is that he looks frit to death in the ring but keeps getting back in.

Plus what you've said is the case for 99% of fighters - guys hiring sparring partners don't hire guys to give them a shelling or make them look stupid, most do it to get their rhythm going, sharpen themselves up and get their feet going. Aud has sparred better than many in the last year or two
Re: Audley Harrison : Winning prizefighter could be a bad thing.
He won £36k for beating a bunch of mediocre fighters. Fair play to him for doing that, but please I hope no more promoters but him in with half-decent fighters again, we've all seen enough of Aud the Fraud trying to tell us he's gona beat someone decent.

I agree. Audley really should jack it in, he's been battered shiteless against good opposition, and will continue to do so. He basically never progressed from being an amateur boxer, he just cannot handle the rough and tough of the pro game - against people he can outclass technically, he will always look good, but when he steps up, it will be another dose of oxygen, or the consoling arms of the ref.

Don`t knock Audley. The guy just won £36 k for an easy nights work. He is in the best shape of his life and say what you want, but he some power in that left hand.
I thought the way he toyed with Rogan was brilliant. he was in total control. in the final he beat the guy up and ended him with a heavy shot.
That is the best i have seen him for a very very long time. With the state of the heavyweight division today, Audley has a punchers chance. Hi problem has always been himself and his fears, but I for one am startingf to believe in the ultimate redemption.
If and of course it`s a big massive IF, he ever wins a genuine world title, i will happily strip bollock naked and press myself up against the neighbours patio door (she is an utterly filthy blond Nordic goddess type, with ample bristols and a heaving clunge)

I agree - I just can't work out why he puts himself through it.rm1 wrote:the weirdest thing about harrison is that he looks frit to death in the ring but keeps getting back in.
Surely he could earn money on the after dinner / motivational / corporate speach market ?

Re: Audley Harrison : Winning prizefighter could be a bad thing.
Don't rule out a rematch between Audley and Price.
The ever gullible public will buy into it.
Audley is "back on track" after these wins, and when Price ko's him again his manager can use this as proof that the Thompson fight was a fluke and that Price is world class.
This is the easiest and quickest way back - Maloney should then throw him in with a big money fight against either Fury or for a world title. This will give the promoter one last chance to recoup his investment.

Re: Audley Harrison : Winning prizefighter could be a bad thing.
Seriously I think people need to give Audely a break, and perhaps even a little bit of credit too. After what he has been through recently in his career and the stick he has taken I think he has really shown some character and indeed courage to come back like he has, again!. Ok its only 'prizefighter' but there were many who thought he would be there for the taking this time round. Aude will always have his flaws, and will never beat a Klitchenko, but not many people have and as David Price found out on Saturday its not that hard to get knocked out when your a heavyweight, unless you have a great chin. Audely may never have been as good as he once boasted he was, but I dont think hes as bad as many are branding him either.

A clunge is a Vertical big mac with bacon draped over the sides. She is one dirty piece of work that`s for sure. I have spent many an afternoon spying on her mowing the lawn in a bikini. I have had to invest in smaller binoculars so that I can hold them one handed.

Ok fair enough, maybe I should say guys he can handle while he employs them. I'm not slating his approach to arranging sparring, I just think it might be giving him false confidence that he's got over his demons which seem worse than the demons of the 99% of fighters to which you refer.fizzjambo wrote:To be fair he's spent good money on quality spars in the past and was in with Malik Scott for Prizefighter.JamesH wrote:I'd guess he spars/fights guys he can handle, builds his confidence, and then see's it zapped when he faces someone half decent.rm1 wrote:the weirdest thing about harrison is that he looks frit to death in the ring but keeps getting back in.
