Japanese Television has Clemente Sanchez with having '47' wins. As posted by the WBC.

'Xicotencatl' landed the perfect 'one-two' capped by an absolutely perfect right hand to
the 'point-of-the-chin'.

Magnifico....
The WBC...not always the most accurate.

'Funny Business in Monterrey'

Saturday Night - August 12, 1972

Fight Manager - Lupe Sanchez who handled both the new WBC Featherweight Champion - Clemente Sanchez
and Mexican Featherweight - Enrique 'Negro' Sanchez sets up a 'non-title' bout between the two 'stable-mates'

25 year-old Clemente, who had 'upset' Kuniaki Shibata in May 1972 - takes a 'non-title' bout in his hometown of
Monterrey, Mexico 3-months after capturing the WBC Featherweight Championship.

His opponent, #3 Mexican Featherweight, Enrique' Negro' Sanchez, a 28 year-old 5' 6 1/2" banger-slugger' with a
record of 35-5-1 (23 KO's).

The Fight,

Conspicuously, Clemente Sanchez fights in a 'non-aggressive' style, and does not exhibit any of the punching
power that he carries in his right hand. Round-after-round, Clemente just paws with his punches and offers
up a minimal offense.

On the other side, Enrique works with a steady pace of left jabs to the body and an occassional medium-power
right hand to the left side of the 25 year-old Champion's body. The Champion's hometown fans are perplexed
by the lack of aggression in their fighter, and start chanting 'Flojo' (lazy) at Clemente mid-way through the
bout.

Only ineffectual punches are thrown by the 'stable-mates' in Rounds 8, 9 and 10 - and the Monterrey Fans
throw objects into the ring as Enrique 'Negro' Garcia is awarded a Unanimous 10-Round Decision.

Amazingly, Enrique 'Negro' Garcia who was not ranked by the WBA at Featherweight, is suddenly positioned
as the #1 WBA-ranked Challenger in the Sepetmeber Ratings List.

On December 2, 1972 - Lupe Sanchez got his fighter a Title Bout with WBA Champion - Ernseto Marcel in Panama.

Oh, those Mexican Fight Managers,,,,,,,,,Mucho Smart.

On the other hand, WBC Featherweight Champion - Clemente Sanchez got to enjoy his Belt for another 4-Months
while blowing up in weight before facing #1 WBC Challenger - Jose Legra of Spain in December 1972.
You called him Enrique Sanchez and Enrique Garcia.

Plaza de Toros Monumental (Lorenzo Garza Bull Ring) - Monterrey, Mexico

WBC Featherweight Championship

Attendance; 12,000 (Record Attendance and Live Gate)

* WBC Champion ~ Clemente 'Xicotencatl' Sanchez (Mexico) ~ 48-6-3 (36 KO's) ~ Age; 25 years ~ Height 5' 7"
vs.
#1 WBC Challenger ~ Jose 'Pocket Cassius Clay' Legra (Spain) ~ 131-9-4 (49 KO's) ~ Age; 29 years ~ Height 5' 8"

Hometown Hero - Clemente Sanchez plays the role of the 'Village Clown' as he does not take this bout seriously, and
does not train at lall leading up to this bout. On Friday, the day before the 'sold-out bout' Sanchez shows up at the
weigh-in 5 1/2 lbs. over-weight at 131 1/2 lbs. The Challenger, Cuban Jose Legra (based out of Spain) makes weight
with room to spare at 123 1/2 lbs.

The 'skinny', was that the scale was already modified a couple of 'Pounds' to help Clemente Sanchez make weight,
but even the adjustemt couldn't help the Champion who was about to make hos 'First' Title Defensein front of his
hometown fans in Monterrey.
Classic example of a one-hit wonder.

WBC President - Ramon G. Velazquez told Clemente to shave his beard before the fight, or he would
be fined ($400 U.S. Dollars = 26,000 Pesetas). Of course he 'snubbed' his nose to that, and to disrespect
the WBC, he brought his 'pet' Dancing Monkey into the ring with him.

The visiting press at ringside were told that Clemente was the 'Village Clown', and that he really wanted
to be in the Mexican Circus. But, though he was 'looney', he could fight and had incredible punching power
that the locals called 'Monkey Strength'. The problem for that night's bout though, was Clemente was in poor
physical condition, and had no chance by most accounts.

The Fight;

The Challenger - Jose Legra showed that he wasn't playing games while 'Xicotencatl' was in showman form.
At the {1:05} Mark of the 1st-Round, Legra dropped Sanchez with a fast right hand. Two more tmes in the
1st-Round, Legra again dropped Sanchez with crips right hands. Since the '3-Knockdown' was waived, the
bout continued to Round 2.

Round 2 was a repeat of Round 1, as Legra continued to snap fast snappy punches on Sanchez who fell
backwards to the canvas '3-Times. All '3' Mexican Judges scrambled to tabulate their scorecards, as they
were in unfamiliar territory. Each time that Sanchez went down, he would take the full '8-Count' before
rising. He made it through another round.

After the '6-Knockdown/2-Round' assault, Jose Legra settled down as not to tire himself out, and went to
boxing with technique and precision as Sanchez half-heartily made an effort with out-of-range punches
in Rounds 3 and 4.

In Rounds 5 and 6, Legra showed agility and mobility, as he popped Sanchez with crisp one-two's, and then slipped
away unscathed. Several times Legra would punish Sanchez with hard combinations, and then back off and let
him recover.

In Rounds 7 an 8, Legra was a bit anarchic with his attack, but was still destructive as he was playing with
Sanchez who was waiting to be felled again.

In Round 9, Legra appeared to have had as much playing that he wanted, and at the {1:14 Mark} battered
Sanchez with rapdid-fire one-two's that dropped him for the '7th-Time'. This time, Legra went on a Cuban-Missle
attack in an effort to finish Sanchez, and dropped him '3' more timed with crisp punches. Each time that Sanchez went
down, he again took the full '8-Count' before rising. Though Sanchez went down, it did appear that he was exaggerating
during each fall. Though the punches from Legra were crisp, they did not look to have 'knockdown' power behind them.

In Round 10, Legra speared Sanchez with several one-two's, then sliced open Sanchez' right eye with a slashing left hook.
As Sanchez went to cover his eye, Legra let go with a punishing-attack and dropped Sanchez an '11th-Time' with a hard
right hand. Sanchez, who refused to be counted out, struggled up at the '8-Count'but was 'out-on-his-feet'' as he stood
wobbling in front of the Referee who finally called a halt to the one-sided bout.

Jose Legra was awarded the WBC Featherweight Championship.

"Legra Floors Sanchez 12 Times To Win Title'

Jose Legra, the Cuban-Spanish Featherweight battered Clemente Sanchez to the canvas '12-Times'
enroute to a TKO 10 victory, to win the WBC Featherweight Championship.

The end came after Sanchez was floored in the 10th Round for the '12th-Time' in the bout. Sanchez
struggled to just beat the count, but the Referee waved it over as sanchez was bleeding from a gash
over his left eye and looked to be out on his feet.

The WBC had stripped the 25 year-old Champion after he came in 3 3/4 lbs. over the 126 lb. Featherweight
limit. The bout was delayed 4-Hours, to allow the Champion a chance to make weight. But, Clemente Sanchez
returned later, and did not even bother to get on the scale, and informed the WBC Officials that he could not make
the Featherweight Limit. WBC President - Ramon G. Velazquez then made an announcement to the Plaza de Toros
Monumental spectators that the Champion had been 'disqualified' for failing to reach the 126 lb. limit. Sanchez
who weighed in at 129 3/4 lbs., agreed to compete as a non-Champion with special circumstances in the 15-Round
bout.

Little mattered, as Sanchez was in in poor physical condition, and the Cuban-Spanish Challenger was in perfect
physical condition. Jose Legra scored '3' Knockdowns in Round 1, '3' Knockdowns in Round 2, '1' Knockdown in
Round 6, '4' Knockdowns in Round 9, and the '1' Knockdown in Round 10 that ended the bout.

Jose Legra showed tremenendous ability and accurate punches as he battered Clemente Sanchez time and again
with fast punches. After the 4th Round, Legra used his 'Cassius Clay Style' of circling and boxing, as he showed
off his agility and mobility. Occasionally, Legra would unleash a hard combination that hurt the Mexican, and
then back off to allow him to recover.

In Round 6, Legra was precise with his punches, and proved his technique was too much for Sanchez as he dropped
him again, for the '7th-Time' in the bout. After the '8-Count' Legra went after Sanchez with a anarchic but destructive
force and battered his opponent to the ropes with a fierce force. But Sanchez would not go down.

But, in Rounds 7 and 8, Legra looked a bit tired from all the punches he had delivered, and was unable to land a
decisive blow, as the fight slowed down. The battered Sanchez was able to mount a minor charge and did show
flashes of his power, as he was able to land several glancing right hands that opened a small nick over Legra's
left eye.

But in Round 9, Clemente Sanchez' brief charge was put to rest, as Legra scored with salvo after salvo dropping
Sanchez '4-Times'. But again, Sanchez refused to be 'counted-out' and continued to get up and get knocked back
down.

In Round 10, Sanchez was battered, stunned, and then dropped. Upon rising, the Referee called a halt the bout
awarding Jose Legra a TKO 10 victory, and with it the WBC Featherweight Championship.

The Mexican Boxing Commision didn't play games with Clemente Sanchez after his 'pathetic effort' against
Jose Legra.

They suspended him for '15-Months' right after the bout.

Clemente Sanchez, 'Jose Legra was very strong. His punches were so fast that I just went down even though
I wasn't hurt that bad. I started to come back in Rounds 7 and 8, everybody could see that. But, in the
9th Round, after he knocked me down again I didn't really know where I was. I just can't make 126 lbs.,
anymore, and it took alot out of me just to get down to 130 lbs.'

WBC President - Ramon G. Velazquez. 'That is no excuse to come in at that much over the Featherweight
limit. It tells me he put in no effort to prepare. He signed for this bout back on November 2, 1972. If
Clemente had 'weight problems' he could have contacted the Boxing Commission. What he did was
make a mockery of the Championship. The MBC (Mexican Boxing Commission) may suspend his license
for a year. As for the WBC, he has been removed as a Top 10 ranked boxer.'
Damn, 15 months!

The 28 year-old former WBC Featherweight Champion moved into the Lightweight Division and went
6-1-0 (3 KO's), and by mid-1975 was ranked in the WBC Top 10 with a record of 54-8-3 (39 KO's) and
was on the verge of getting a WBC Lightweight Title fight against Ishimatsu 'Guts' Suzuki.

But, on August 1, 1975 - on a Friday Night in his hometown of Monterrey he put on a 'lame effort' against
Costa Rican Lightweight - Alvaro Rojas (a Roberto Duran sparring partner), and lost a 'wide' points
10-Round Decision.

Alvaro Rojas went on to face WBC Lightweight Champion - Ishimatsu 'Guts' Suzuki in December 1975.

Clemente 'Xicotencatl' Sanchez retired. Back to the 'Village Clown' with another pet 'Dancing Monkey'
