Lion hearts v Ukraine ??
Lion hearts v Ukraine ??
Anyone know how we done at York hall last night please ?
Re: Lion hearts v Ukraine ??
Lost 3-2. Selby and Ward won. Joyce, Maxwell lost on points. Evans stopped. I sat next to Sam Maxwell's family and he joined them later on. Seemed a nice bloke and I got his autograph and he got Selby and Evans to sign also.

I see there is No vest, is this Am?
Re: Lion hearts v Ukraine ??
Without trying to score the fight my impression was that he was still in the fight going into the last round which Lomacheko clearly took. Lomachenko had landed the cleaner blows but I thought Maxwell did a good job keeping him at bay and trying to pick him off. I think it was announced that Lomachenko won every round with every judge? That said I was also sat next to a Ukranian fan (there were loads there) and he was quite worried going into the 5th round. I'd like to think that quite a few of the rounds were quite close on the amateur scoring system.Deserter wrote:How well did Maxwell do mate considering who he was up against? ;;-)Cholo_cws wrote:Lost 3-2. Thanks. Good to hear he gave a good account of himselfCholo_cws wrote:Without trying to score the fight my impression was that he was still in the fight going into the last round which Lomacheko clearly took. Re: Lion hearts v Ukraine ??
It's actually scored like pro boxing with mostly 10-9 rounds. It basically IS pro boxing! Maxwell did incredibly well just to be competitive.
Re: Lion hearts v Ukraine ??
Was Maxwell competitive? My view was he just spoiled from round 2 onwards. Lomachenko looked upset at the end because of all the holding.
I don't blame Maxwell (what else can he have done?) but it's wrong to say he was competitive.

Albert Selimov beat him in the 2007 World final. Maxwell beat Selimov at Olympic qualifiers last year.

Selimov from Russia !tear up wrote:Who is the guy who has beaten Lomachenko his record is 300 1 loss
Lomachenko drew him in the first round of the Olympics the following year and basically avenged the loss by beating him up, selimov refused to shake hands and lomachenko just laughed (sweet revenge). However, lomachenko did loose a very close decision to a Brazilian at the 2011 world championships but his dad (who trains him) appealed the decision and it got overturned ! I believe it was the first successful appeal at the worlds ever ! I can't remember the actual reason now.
Re: Lion hearts v Ukraine ??
That fight was outrageous. They ruled that he scored 3 knockdowns in the last round (he actually got a public warning for one of the knockdowns from the referee). The Brazilian was down 5 times in the round. Worst example of amateur refereeing ever and if the judges were straight he would have won clearly anyway.jessi wrote:Selimov from Russia !tear up wrote:Who is the guy who has beaten Lomachenko his record is 300 1 loss

I know it's basically a 10 point must system but didn't the judges have a computer to register punches landed though?..perhaps as an aid in making their decision? Well that was my assumption from what I saw on a judges table anyway. Maybe it was for bar service.ed robinson wrote:It's actually scored like pro boxing with mostly 10-9 rounds. Re: Lion hearts v Ukraine ??
Joe Joyce is one hell of a tough guy
Re: Lion hearts v Ukraine ??
The fights are on Youtube now.
I've only seen Joyce-Usyk so far; Joyce took a lot of punishment, but he gave a good effort throughout the bout against a very good opponent.
