Will Burns fight broner on June 15th?

Post by ALI »

Assuming that he wins against Vasquez, and is uninjured, should he/will he fight Broner on June 15th?

It appears to be waiting on a plate for him, being the WBO and IBF champion he'd have a strong hand at the negotiating table so i'd expect him to get his best ever payday by far. He will also have exactly 3 montha to prepare after the Vazquez fight, not ideal, but enouht time for a short 3 week rest and a 9 week training camp.

He has had a couple of opportunities to fight Broner before but for whatever reason opted not to fight. If he beats Vazquez and has not picked up a bad injury, should he/will he go for it this time?

I feel he should take the fight on 3 months notice, they could probably negotiate most of the contract pre Vazquez, then if he wins all thats required is signatures. Somehow though, assuming he beats Vazquez, my gut feeling is the Broner fight will fall through for the third time.

Really? It's hardly Mayweather-Pacquiao is it? Broner has only had 2 fights at the weight and let's not pretend Broner will take the fight on anything other than his terms.

I dont think for 1 second Ricky Burns would bottle it from anybody,as far i know he had to be talked out of accepting the fight with Broner but i do believe his manager Alex Morrison and Fwank need to get with the times or theyll be right down the ladder within a year and theyll have nobody to blame but themselves

If he beats Vasquez, he's then got a real title to go with the WBO, and the only sensible move is for another unification.

This fight isn’t happening soon if at all. Nothing to do with Burns, I may add. The fight would have to take place in America, and FWank will not want that. Broner will have to move on within a year or so going by his super duper best fighter ever reputation,.. blasting his way through the divisions going on to become a 32 times 16 weight world champion within a modest 18months.

Simple really.

if the fight happens there will only be one winner broner, as improved as burns has become in the last 2 years is just in a different league to broner i think it would be a wide ud or late stoppage burns just doesnt have the firepower to put a dent in broner.

I'm far from convinced he will fight Vasquez! More money will prob be generated from fighting Harrison without any risk.

Said it before will say it again. No chance will bruns fight broner especially after seeing what he did to rees who I consider a similar level to burns.

i disagree, i think burns would beat rees easily( i like both fighters), but broner will be a tough tough night for sure, i'd love to see it but sadly i don't think it will happen

If Vazquez don't turn up then he may need to fight Broner as he will have missed out on a decent payday. Broner will have one more fight and go up to light-welter, if Burns
intends to fight him this may be his last chance.

It needs to happen regardless of who the winner between Ricky Burns and Miguel Vazquez is in my eyes. It is important to fully establish whether or not Adrien Broner is really that special talent that he is hyped up to be by our friends across the Atlantic. Should Burns get past Vazquez he should fight Broner regardless of him going Stateside or not.

If FW has lost Groves this fight won't happen whilst he promotes Burns. Ricky without a belt is a big issue for his promoter and I don't think he has great faith in Burns at top level, which is a shame.

Look at fighters like Stieglitz. They are padded champs, if Abraham does him again he'll struggle to get another big payday. I think FW sees Burns the same.

Personally I think Burns losing to Broner won't harm him as long as he makes it a close fight. Broner will move up and Ricky could get back. he could even surprise Broner, he's levels above Rees in my opinion.

I've met him and a load of his local fans. All top lads!

I don't doubt you Mr Nelson, although I'm sure Broner might chuck a couple back in anger. The issue is getting the fight. The only chance I see is if Ricky gets a new promoter (and you could argue that FW has done loads for Ricky and deserves to keep looking after him) or if FW is backed into a corner due to circumstance.

Either way I'm looking forward to watching him smash Vasquez and move on.

No chance Burns will fight Broner anytime soon - not after what he did to Rees. Unless GBP come up with a massive purse offer which is unlikely as Burns in a nobody in the states. Wwarren and Morrison will ride it out in the knowledge that HBO/ team Broner will want to go upto 140lb to chaste bigger paydays. Wwarren will have him fight a Harrison/Murray or Walsh next assuming he gets through Vasquez ok. Fwank badly needs Burns and Cleverley intact and will wrap them both up in cotton wool IMO until he can land another money fighter from somewhere or push Gavin/Saunders forward and hope they become stars.
