Next up for Alexis, (June 1973) another over-blown Bantamweight, the tricky Mexican - Octavio 'Famoso' Gomez, who was
also ranked as a Bantamweight #9 WBC / #9 WBA.

Easy way to get rated in a higher division: fight rated guys from a lower one.

This point in time (April - May - June 1973) -

Alexis Arguello was getting a reputation in Central America as a deadly one-punch 'KO-Artist'.
Many of the fight managers (ie; Arturo Hernandez and Lupe Sanchez) demanded more 'Cordobas'
to send their smaller fighters into Nicaragua only to be 'flattened'.

Several 'top' Mexican Bantamweights refused to go down to Managua, to be 'laid out' fighting a
bigger - taller - heavier Arguello.

Word was spreading though Central America, that Fight Promoter - Roger Riguero and
Dr. Eduardo Roman (Alexis' Management Team) wanted to build-up Alexis' record
by loading him up with small guys. Alexis was around {122+}, and he was still fighting
mostly 'small' Bantamweights.

Even 'Kid Paraguay' was a small fighter.

Remember, no Super Bantamweight Division yet - though it was getting some traction.

Alexis may have had an easy (SB Title) in mid-1973 if there was a Division...

When did Arguello first attain recognition in, say, Ring? After Marcel?

The WBA had Alexis ranked at #7 Featherweight, when he faced Ernesto Marcel in February 1974.

In November 1973 - Alexis (KO 1) over Jose Legra (who was ranked the #8 Featherweight by Ring Magazine).

Alexis was not ranked by Ring Magazine (November 1973) at the time, but he showed up at the #11 Featherweight
in January 1974.

Following the 'loss' to Ernesto Marcel, I think Alexis entered the Ring Top 10 in May/June 1974.
