Hi Everyone,

Whats your thoughts on the following:

News has reached SecondsOut that British heavyweight champion Matt Skelton is to fight Mike Tyson conqueror Kevin McBride at the ExCel Arena in London's Docklands on December 10.

The fight has not been officially confirmed but it is thought that promoters Sports Network have lined up either WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz or WBO titleholder Lamon Brewster for the winner.

Unheralded Irishman McBride, 33-4-(28), finished the career of the once great Tyson by banging him out inside six rounds back in June. The 38 year-old Skelton is 17-0-(16).

It is a great fight for Skelton though. Like it or not, Mcbride now has a name of sorts in the Heavyweight division and you could envisage Skelton beating him convincingly.

If Mcbride was deemed suitable for Ruiz (what has happened to that legendary showdown?) then Skelton would be I guess after beating him?

This would be an ugly ugly fight, I can't see why Warren would want Skelton to fight McBride instead of Williams.

McBride is garbage and possibley the slowest fighter I've ever seen (well level with Valuev).

Tyson was beating him on the cards until Tyson quit!

What the hell is Skelton thinking fighting him.

Wouldn't suprised me if Danny was paid to pull out because they want to feed Skelton journymen.

Maybe it's Maloney getting him to fight Mc Bride, Warren knew him fighting Williams would be bigger money.

To the mug punter Mcbride is name because he beat a shell of Tyson. Just like Danny Williams was.

If Skelton can Ko Mcbride he'll get a big fight off the back of it. Therefore from his and Warren's perspective it's a good fight, possibly better than a Williams fight. Because it's the mug punters than bring in the £££££££, not us.

Does anyone know if Williams is still going to be fighting on the 3rd? The undercard was starting to look pretty good. I hear Audley Harrison is looking for an opponent? Ok, ok I take it back no more jokes. Any realistic opponent is anyones mind?

Counting down the days till Ruiz v Skelton, come in Lewis v Akinwande, your time as the most boring heavyweight title fight of the last 20 years is up

I agree. Beating McBride will gain you instant name recognition and a better chance at a title shot.

For some reason the whole card seems to have moved forward a week - boxrec have the magee fight then as well.

I did say on another thread that Williams could do with getting on the card, even if its not against Skelton. He's had 3 rounds since the Klitchko fight and could do with more. He didn't look in too bad cond. when he was in Bedford

Then watch for either Tak or Magee pull out with flu, to be replaced by a dangerous Belgium waffle maker.

This fight seems strange to me -- I can't see why McBride would take this fight coming off the Tyson win and signing with DKP. If he simply fights a stiff between now and February, he'll likely get a title shot. King could make a fortune staging a world heavyweight title fight in Ireland, so I can't see why he wouldn't do it. Basically, facing Skelton seems a huge risk with little real reward.

It's official now...

Matt Skelton will fight Kevin McBride at the ExCel Centre on December 10 with the winner being promised a shot at a version of the world heavyweight title.

Skelton had been due to face Danny Williams on December 3 but turned down that fight because the Londoner pulled out of their July showdown at the last minute.

Instead British champion Skelton will fight the man who ended the career of Mike Tyson when he forced him to quit after six rounds earlier this year.

And the winner could find himself in line for a crack at either the WBO or WBA heavyweight world titles.

On December 10 the WBU belt will be on the line, while there is an action-packed under-card which currently has five other title fights lined up as well as the fourth professional appearance of Amir Khan.

Undefeated Skelton will start the fight favourite, but McBride is full of confidence following his shock defeat of Tyson.

The 32-year-old has a 33-4-1 record, and was previously promoted in the UK by both allegedly and Frank Maloney.
