Re: Khan Sheffield April 27th
Have Golden Boy got a UK Promotors licence yet ?
Whose licence does Khan Promotions run under ?
Sky not going to show this so it seems Khan has sold his soul to Box.....
Why pick Sheffield ?

I would suspect for the same reason Khan/Salita was taken to Newcastle. Take the famous face with relatively few fans and his unattractive opponent out of town and somewhere where they don't often see 'big fights'.Parson Cross wrote:Why pick Sheffield ?
Don't think it'll work. This match is crap.
Bring Breidis Prescott back and he'll pack the MEN for the first time since Barrera.
Sadly I assume Prescott will have to be severely diminished before Khan will ever consider him again.

Sheffield has a vey knowledgeable crowd. Thats the reason they wont go this. It was probably Bitains Boxing capital for years so god knows where your "dont often see big fights" comment comes from.loaded_gloves wrote:I would suspect for the same reason Khan/Salita was taken to Newcastle. So how many big fights featuring established world class names has Sheffield seen since Hatton/Mausa?

Just been on the motorpoint arena and you can pretty much pick any seat you want in any block. Most of the £75 seats have at least 14 completely empty rows (24 seats per row) which doesn't take a Nathan Cleverly to figure out that the show isn't selling well

Re: Khan Sheffield April 27th
they havent even announced any undercard fights just khan v diaz,khan2 v tba and ogogo v tba i thought they might have put some other decent goldenboy fighters on like santacruz, maidana, malignaggi, angulo, kirkland, wilder
Re: Khan Sheffield April 27th
I dont think its that, i think they're having khan fighting in sheffield to set up a fight with brook down the line, not that they even need to do that to be honest! Or they're trying to see how many tickets khan can sell in sheffield to see if he can sell more than brook does and then have khan in a stronger bargaining position for that fight down the line. Just a theory but i dont think its completely out of the realm of possibility.mickey1975 wrote:So I have read. It just seems ridiculous that Golden Boy are promoting in his home town a few weeks before and putting it on. They must be desperate to keep home advantage. In that case, I would worry about Brook if it goes to the cards.Pugilist-specialist wrote:Can't see it mickey. The speculation around Kell seems to be 18 May in Washington.mickey1975 wrote:After reading in the papers that Amir is set for a bout against Julio Diaz in Sheffield on 27th April, i was wondering if there is any chance of Alexander-Brook ending up on this? Johnny Nelson and a few others have hinted big news is in the pipeline regarding Kell and with Golden Boy and Sky involved with this show it surely makes sense. Sheffield is a notoriously hard sell and Khan has found it hard work before, even in the Manchester Arena which is close to his home. Alexander-Brook would fill it.
Re: Khan Sheffield April 27th
Just a thought but if Golden Boys sole intention was to sell more tickets than Kell Brooke does in Sheffield wouldnt they price the tickets reasonably?
Re: Khan Sheffield April 27th
Any chance Jamie McDonnell on this bill? Been six months since he fought. when he getting a world title chance?
Re: Khan Sheffield April 27th
Correct and it deserves to bomb i think that they dont want comparisons made with the numbers Hatton drew in Manchester which would happen.Parson Cross wrote:mmmmmm like they did for Hatton ?

Admittedly it would be unfair to compare the 2 one is a leg -end the other a bell-end.(cant help it sorry)
Out of interest do you know anyone who's going i know its early but usually theres a little buzz when a good fights coming up ?
Answers in the question really isnt it
I can see an injury popping up here and the fight being ''rescheduled'' Reebok Arena anyone?

It's just pure greed by Team Khan.pyenest77 wrote:Just a thought but if Golden Boys sole intention was to sell more tickets than Kell Brooke does in Sheffield wouldnt they price the tickets reasonably?
I remember when FW was actually complaining that Khan vs Salita had gone to PPV simply to "meet Khan's demands on money".

He was still under contract to Warren then, probably FW's demands for money needed it too

Re: Khan Sheffield April 27th
Garcia very succintly spells it out in that interview:
"You're really not going to tell until he fights the top fighters. When you fight someone who cannot keep up with you, you are going to look like a star. If every time you step out there, you are fighting someone who cannot test your will and make you think, you are going to look good. You are really not going to tell until you fight another top fighter again."
It's so obvious and yet every time Khan runs over a handpicked opponent, designed to flatter him, the media and a lot of fans start hyping a 'new & improved Khan' without him actually demonstrating it against a world class opponent.
If he develops a new style that solves Garcia, Peterson and Prescott then I will believe it. Until then he's the same guy from what I can see.

To be honest mate, it was not that bad. I was there and there were tickets available. But i bet it was 90% full and thats the full hall. I just think on the back of the Kostya fight selling out in 2 hours that this one would.Parson Cross wrote:Totally irrelevent mate. Am sure there was at the last minute when it became apparent it was not going to sell out but it wont have been a large percentage. I saw David Haye in Huddersfield when Spud was literally dragging them in off the streets. Still only about 200 there. European title as well!Parson Cross wrote:I can also tell you mate that a shed load of those attending didn't pay. Tickets were available foc in Sheffield.

If he does that the whole world will believe it but it won't happen .Especially Garcia but anyone has the blue printloaded_gloves wrote:Garcia very succintly spells it out in that interview:

he has no chin .And is refusing to test his new style choosing quite sensibly in my book to fight light weights in hard times like these who wants to pay to see that .Answer no one if you want to rebuild over here give Prescott a decent wedge book the M.e.n see what it sells like .But that's not the way Team Khan do business .

Golden Boy - 'Amir Khan vs Julio Diaz is a great, must see fight. Everyone has got to tune in'
Is that right? How many people have asked for this fight in a division with lot's of top opponans for Khan? Exactly you donuts. Piss off!
I'm a Khan fan, but this is a non starter. He had a bounce back fight after the Garcia defeat, he doesn't need another. This is not the old days where top fighter would stay active against lesser opposition in between big fight. In this day and age these match up's are made IN PLACE of big fights and it turns people off.
