Burns - Vazquez OFF

Post by elephant man »

Scottish Sun reporting it. Manager Alex Morrison said: “While there is talk of it being rescheduled within 30 days, Ricky and I are very unhappy.”

Another shocker for Warren. Feel sorry for Ricky and the Scots fans who have bought tickets, travel and hotels for the second time in 3 months. I think it's time for him to move on to either Matchroom or Hennessy.

Surely this event won't go ahead now. Far too many changes too the bill. Simply unacceptable. Liam Walsh Vs. Logan McGuinness was advertised but according to McGuinness never signed in the first place. George Groves, Dereck Chisora and Ricky Burns all advertised but none are fighting due to various issues.

This has happened before with Warren cards however this might be the biggest cluster fornicate yet. Going forward from this, who can trust an advertised event by Warren?

Even without buying a ticket, allegedly customers are being short changed in terms of domestic action.

Bollix.

Real shame for Ricky (and Vazquez). Can't see any realistic way the rest of the card goes ahead which could spell trouble for Cleverly - the Krasniqi fight is a mandatory defence so there's a prospect if him being stripped. That would blow the Braehmer fight and any talk of Hopkins/Cloud can be forgotten for another 18 months. Also feel sorry for the other undercard fighters - no fight means no money and uncertainty over when they'll be out again. Less sympathy for the fans who've bought tickets as Warren has proved time and again that its best to wait as late as possible before committing to buying. At least if the card is cancelled, full refunds will be due.

Agreed. I eventually learnt my lesson and have given up on Warren promoted shows, its meant I've missed a couple of decent ones but on the whole I've saved myself some dosh and hassle! I think the balance would probably be to still go but only buy in the week leading up to the fight, but I just had enough of feeling ripped off so have boycotted altogether.

Despite it being scheduled at the most convenient of pro bong venues for me, despite being starved of some live boxing, despite promising to take my mates lad to the next local pro show, I resisted. This is why. Withdrawals happen to all promoters but the theme with this one is so regular that frankly, it stinks. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

I always doubted it from the get-go. It was never going to happen in my view based on the track record.

Yeah a mexican boxing channel on youtube that has done face-to-face interviews with Vasquez in the past stated the fight was in the balance yesterday:

Ridiculous that there were money issues 1 week before the fight!

I just got an email having bought tickets for this - see below.

Rescheduled with one less major fight, ticket prices don't come down of course. Possibly two less fights if chisora's license doens't come through. Think I'm getting a refund, can't be bothered with this. Being a boxing fan becoming progressively less and less rewarding.

---

Thank you for purchasing tickets with www.eventim.co.uk for the following event:

RULE BRITANNIA in LONDON, Wembley Arena, 16.03.2013 17:00

The promoter of this event has informed us that the event has changed and shall now take place as follows:

NEW:
RULE BRITANNIA in LONDON, Wembley Arena, 20.04.2013 17:00

This event has now been rescheduled to 20th April at Wembley Arena. All tickets remain valid for the new date. Please see the below update from allegedly Promotions:

WBO World Lightweight Champion Ricky Burns’ opponent, Miguel Vazquez - the IBF World Champion - has been suffering from a severe viral infection caused by food poisoning. Vazquez has been advised to rest and rehydrate, before starting to train again which has meant that the fight has had to be delayed.
There was an opportunity to bring in a replacement challenger for Burns but it was agreed that at this stage of his career, it was essential that the unification contest went ahead, even if it meant a slight delay.

For Burns, he felt that it was important that he still fight Vazquez for the IBF World title and unify the belts and then head into a possible fight against WBC title-holder Adrien Broner next, bringing two world title belts into the fight.

Burns v Vazquez will still joint headline the show with WBO World Light-Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly defending his title against Robin Krasniqi. Cleverly will also welcome the postponement as he has been suffering from a stomach virus that left him unable to train for five days last week and then when he resumed training he relapsed again. This will ensure that he is back to full fitness for the new date.

Promoter allegedly said, “It’s very unfortunate that Vazquez has had to withdraw so close to the fight, but it is on medical grounds, which is beyond my control, due to his viral infection, and we have his doctor’s certificate confirming this. Therefore I have had to postpone the fight, not canceled as stated in some media reports, to Saturday 20th April at Wembley Arena. Everybody is disappointed by this postponement, but we have worked hard to ensure that Ricky’s unification fight still goes ahead.”

The Wembley Arena undercard will remain the same featuring Dereck Chisora*, Frank Buglioni, John Thain, Steve O’Meara, Gary Corcoran, Mitchell Smith, Joey Taylor and Miles Shinkwin.

George Groves has withdrawn from the Wembley Arena show promoted by allegedly on Saturday 16th March.

Groves was due to challenge for the Vacant European Super-Middleweight title against Mohamed Ali Ndiaye that Mr. Warren won the purse bid for on January 11th.

Groves has stated that he is not interested in boxing for the EBU title at this moment and would like to take his choice of fights in another direction.

Mr Warren would like to wish George all the best with his career and looks forward to working again with him in the near future.

We apologise to fans who have booked travel and accommodation for the show and have been inconvenienced by this unavoidable change.

Tickets that have been purchased for the show will be still be valid for the new date.

*Dereck Chisora’s appearance is subject to him receiving his British Boxing Board of Control license

Not to mention the extortionate and seemingly ubiquitous booking fees which are more than 10% of the ticket price. Farce

I haven't bought a ticket to a Warren show for a loooong time, don't know why others still do, his reputation is surely now in tatters.

This is definitely the last time I will. Might save the weekend by getting some tickets for Skelton Mcdermott
