I know that it's just a few days since I wrote here concerning McCall/Akinwande, but what happen yesterday was so disgusting that I just can't keep quiet. I'll promise that as long as nothing as repulsive occurs, I won't write here again this year.
What I'm talking about is Artur Grigorian vs Matt Zegan. The challenger Zegan won that fight big time, but for some reason the judges didn't reward him on their scorecards.
I think that it would be very appropriate that the data base had an suitable comment on this fight. It's important that future visitors of boxrec can get the information that the poor Matt Zegan clearly won the fight to many, if not all, observers.

WBO lightweight champ Artur Grigorian made his 17th successful title defence tonight in Essen, Germany. Grigorian (36-0) decisioned little known Matt Zegan, from Poland. Zegan falls now at 24-1, after losing a majority decision. Judges had it 114-114; 115-113 and 115-112 but, according to many ringsiders, the outcome is an early candidate for the "worst decision award" of 2003. In fact, Zegan had Grigorian cut under both eyes and pressed the action for most of the bout. At the verdict, the German fans booed and screamed. To their credit, both Grigorian and promoter Peter Kohl spoke about a rematch during the post-fight press conference.

"The result surprised me", promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl admitted. "I saw a draw at best if you grant Grigorian a bonus for being the defending world champion. If Zegan wants a rematch we can do it again. Either in Germany or in Poland."

Grigorian, 35, an Armenian fighting out of Germany, defended his title for the 17th time. But he was booed by fans who thought the challenger should have won. Grigorian finished the bout with cuts around both eyes.

Artur Grigorian was even more "fortunate" to retain his WBO lightweight, as he was seemingly losing nearly every round against his tough and previously undefeated challenger Matt Zegan. Zegan dominated the fight from the start, pressuring the champion into defensive-mode and landing at a high percentage. Grigorian was not able to find his rhythm, could not keep Zegan at a safe range and took more punches than a skilled boxer of his calibre should take.
The old champ looked like all his 35 years, when his opponent walked steadily right through his defence and finally opened a bloody cut over Grigorians left eye. Grigorian woke up in the last three rounds and was looking for the one punch to turn the fight around that he was losing clearly. He did not succeed, but to his and all of the spectators surprise, Grigorian was declared the winner by majority decision (114-114, 115-113, 115-112). The verdict was booed heavily by the crowd.
