Does allegedly deserve all the stick he gets?
Does allegedly deserve all the stick he gets?
I dont know if this is the case personally but going on accounts ive read FW has screwed some fighters over along the years ie Calzaghe, etc but is he as bad as some people make out? The reason I ask this is quite often we see a fighter say oh he hasnt payed me or he hasnt delivered on his promises and so forth and we take it as gospel fact! For instance one of the criticisms that FW has faced over the years and its definietly been valid at times but the accusation has been he protects his fighters and doesnt make the best fights but he put Chisora in with Fury on channel 5, he put calzaghe in against Kessler in a unification fight and theres been plenty of others and the most reason criticism has been about Cleverly and his level of competition which is justified point. The thing about Cleverly though is by all accounts he has tried making fights with Hopkins and Shumenov but they just havent been able to be made for some reason. Anyway I was just trying to play devils advocate and see whether FW is painted as the villain all the time even when it isnt deserved? What do you think?

I've heard plenty of stories, some direct from the boxers themselves, others from their friends, coaches etc., Few give any credit for the position sthey find themselves in.
Lets just say pro boxing is a business, the fighters are a commodity and treated as such.

Yes. And Hearn will get there too eventually. Tis life, my friend.

He (probably) is the same as everyone - he wants to do well for himself and his family and the rest can stick it. There are lots of people on here that hold hi up to a moral compass they couldn't hold to theirselves. There are lots of well off boxers that have a grievance with him and most likely a legitimate grievance; they'd not be so well off if they'd gone with any other british promoter. He's not someone I could imagine being friends with (though I have some unpleasant friends ;;-) ) but if I knew him I'd think he'd done well.

In reply to the topic on discussion here, in terms of people deserving something, joe calzaghe deserved his purse for the hopkins fight. There's £1.8m still owed. Yes, I know about limited companies etc, but a large sum of money from the income that fight generated went somewhere else instead of finding its way to the guy who climbed into the ring and fought. That is an absolute disgrace.

Yes, he's a cancer on British boxing.
A sad, pathetic bender, prepared to sue people over absolutely nothing.

I imagine that'd be the case and believe you've seen much to hold that view.
