If BHop and Cleverly fought?
If these two fought as has been discussed in a unification fight how do you seeing it going in the light of the fight against cloud?
Clev has a very high punch output, but Hopkins has way of diminishing output and negating a boxer's strengths. BHOP also has a professor's ring IQ and Clev can sometimes fight the other guy's fight. Hopkins has seen and fought against every style and comes up with a good plan. I also think BHop has a big advantage with his corner.
Personally after last night, I'd make Bhop the favourite. Styles make fights, and I think Bhop will have Clev's number.

I like Clev in this if its over here and he has a tune up first (which seems certain). Too busy but it would be fascinating fascinating stuff and I'd deffo go and watch it

Yeah, me too. The Millenium would have been ideal for me, but I doubt they'll be having Frank back any time soon!TheGoods wrote:I like Clev in this if its over here and he has a tune up first (which seems certain). Too busy but it would be fascinating fascinating stuff and I'd deffo go and watch it
Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
It's not easy to be 'busy' when your getting hit with hard, carefully placed blows to the face.
B-hop is a big unit, he won't be pushed around and wailed in a corner. He's way to experienced and mentally strong for that.
Clev is youthful and fast, but no disrespect towards his old man here, but he needs an effective game plan , which only a top level experienced coach can give him.
We all saw the struggle Joe had with Hopkins, despite being the younger, fresher and hungrier fighter - because his corner had no clue. His strengths saw him through - but Clev doesn't have his strengths (or at least has not shown them yet).
Personally, I think it won't happen. Unless Clev goes to America. And Hopkins has the better title and the TV behind him.
And if he does go over, I see him losing by some margin, possibly choking on the big stage after going soft fighting nobodies from Europe.
I'd be chuffed if he did it, but I sadly don't think Clev and his old man are any match for B-Hop and Naz Richardson.

Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
Clev's only chance is a British stoppage. So he needs to get the fight at home and just wail into hopkins so that the ref (probably o'connor) can save the old man from a beating

How could you say that about Enzo "Ba-Ba-ba-bam, bam-bam-bam" Calzaghe?G0mez wrote:

Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
I know he keeps winning, but you got to keep predicting against Hopkins surely. Eventually age is going to catch up with him. He's nearly 50, for fecks sake.
Credit to the guy for what he has achieved, and what he is still achieving at an age which is ancient for sportsmen. But he can't go on much longer. Can he?

As long as Clev starts fast and his engine is tuned he will beat BHop by UD.

Maybe . . . but don't bet on it.taffytoon wrote:As long as Clev starts fast and his engine is tuned he will beat BHop by UD.
Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
Bhop is a class above
Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
Lol. Clev has zero chance this year. Maybe if Hopkins falls apart, which must be going to happen soon. The only reason he even has a baw hairs chance is that Hopkins is ancient. clev has regressed since his win over Murat. He would look like a fool against Bernard.
(I was a big fan of Clevs for a while but he has not showed any progress for over a year and I am not talking about quality of opposition)

Home advantage and John Keane should secure a nice early british stoppage.lefthook82 wrote:Clev's only chance is a British stoppage. So he needs to get the fight at home and just wail into hopkins so that the ref (probably o'connor) can save the old man from a beating
Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
Having Keane reffing would greatly improve Clevs chances
Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
When has a fighter of Hopkins calibre been on the receiving end of a British stoppage?Ratchet Exits Nu wrote:Home advantage and John Keane should secure a nice early british stoppage.lefthook82 wrote:Clev's only chance is a British stoppage. I don't think even John Keane would have the gall to stop Hopkins like that.

Barrera was an absolute travesty, it's one reason it is tough to being the big names over here.Horse wrote:When has a fighter of Hopkins calibre been on the receiving end of a British stoppage?Ratchet Exits Nu wrote:Home advantage and John Keane should secure a nice early british stoppage.lefthook82 wrote:Clev's only chance is a British stoppage. That was a farce, but that was stopped on cuts and it went to the scorecards, so I don't think that counts as a British stoppage.Coco wrote:Barrera was an absolute travesty, it's one reason it is tough to being the big names over here.

Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
Based on B Hops current level of fitness, I would say he wins over Clev. At his age though he could become old overnight and then Clev would have a very good chance.
Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
He's got Braehmer after Krasniqi next anyway.
I personally think he needs stiff tests before Hopkins, to ready him.

Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
Bloody hell Gomez any longer and we'll be wheeling in Hopkins in a barrow with a beard like a member of ZZ Top !
Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
it must be very difficult fighting Hopkins. Because the man is too old to be even tainted by a loss. So its a no win situation. You beat him well and people would say "oh he obviously has gotten old over night". But if Hopkins puts in any sort of performance then he is hailed as a legend. Pyschologically that must be a drain. I think anyone who has the bottle to actually stay busy and on him the whole fight will win. Like calzaghe did.
So although cleverly hasnt really faught anyone of note. If he fought the fight and not the fighter, then he would win.

Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
I've not seen anything from Cleverly that would make me think he could win this. His only really 'live' fight was against Bellew and that could have gone either way. Since that fight, he's opponent level has dropped and BHop has continued to bounce along like a duracell bunny.
With that low guard, a stoppage for BHop wouldn't be out of the question. I'd like Clev to win but just can't see it happening at the minute as i agree with others when they say his poor opponents may have let him get into far too many bad habits. BHop will know how to pick each one of those apart

Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
Hopkins is the exception, he isnt like any other fighter. He keeps showing good fighters he is still the King. Clev has never had anyone like B Hop in the ring. David Haye kept knocking them over until he met Carl Thompson and found out experiance does count.Parson Cross wrote:Bloody hell Gomez any longer and we'll be wheeling in Hopkins in a barrow with a beard like a member of ZZ Top !

Re: If BHop and Cleverly fought?
If it was over here, the Clev has a great chance. British stoppages aside, Hopkins does a hell of a lot of holding after throwing the right hand. If he was given warnings followed by deductions for that, he'd soon stop.
