You don't think someone with sergios speed and ring movement would frustrate tito?
I'm not disagreeing eitherm if I had to pick on the spot I'd say Felix at his best wins. But Sergio winning wouldn't shock me either

He'd give him some trouble, particularly early, but Martinez keeps his hands low and he isn't great defensively. Tito keeps stalking him and starts breaking him down imo. Martinez got better at 160, I don't know if it was 'supplements' or possible difficulties making weight. I just don't see a guy who struggled with Cintron handling Tito at Trinidad's peak.

Yeah, sometimes I think Sergio thinks he is Pernell or Floyd defensively, though in reality he isn't that hard to hitSaadOffTheDeck wrote:He'd give him some trouble, particularly early, but Martinez keeps his hands low and he isn't great defensively. With two guys in the ring there is always a chance, but Trinidad wins 49 out of 50.thunderfromdownunder wrote:You don't think someone with sergios speed and ring movement would frustrate tito?

I never was crazy about Trinidad. Never understood the attraction or the appeal. So maybe I am biased but I am going with Martinez.

Not against the Trinidad that fought Joppy. After Hopkins I'd take Martinez.thunderfromdownunder wrote:Yeah, sometimes I think Sergio thinks he is Pernell or Floyd defensively, though in reality he isn't that hard to hitSaadOffTheDeck wrote:He'd give him some trouble, particularly early, but Martinez keeps his hands low and he isn't great defensively. You never understood the attraction or appeal of a thrill seeking knockout puncher? He is certainly overrated by some. Why he was so popular is far from a mystery.HomicideHenry wrote:I never was crazy about Trinidad. Never understood the attraction or the appeal. So maybe I am biased but I am going with Martinez.

I never thought he was this great fighter many made him out to be. I always thought he was overated. Exciting? Yes, but certainly not a great fighter. Least not in my mind.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:You never understood the attraction or appeal of a thrill seeking knockout puncher? He is certainly overrated by some. A fighter doesn't have to be great to be appealing or popular. I agree that tito is overrated, Martinez is too.
Re: Felix Trinidad v Sergio Martinez 154lbs
Agree on Tito, not sure if he stops him, though, as Martinez could be evasive enough to thwart that. Tito by clear decision, probably getting dropped along the way (nothing new).SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Tito by KO

Martinez by KO. I think Sergio's rep took an unwarranted dive b/c of the Junior 12th round but Martinez is already past his best and not the same guy who KO'd Williams and obliterated Dzinzurik (nevermind the fact that little Chavez is a drained down light HW)
Martinez would frustrate the hell out of Trinidad and then stop him late. Trinidad could not handle elite slick boxers and Martinez is very tricky to fight, plus his speed advantage would give Trinidad fits.

nothing against either but neither are all time greats
Re: Felix Trinidad v Sergio Martinez 154lbs
Sergio would control the first 3 or 4 rounds, Sergio has a tendency to slow down a bit in the middle portion of fights, especially against talented pressure fighters, I think during this stretch Tito would break down and stop Martinez. Tito by KO sometime around 8-10 would be my guess.
Re: Felix Trinidad v Sergio Martinez 154lbs
Who refers to a fighter of that caliber a chump? No respect I tell ya.The End wrote:ExcusedJpreisser wrote:Excuse me....The End wrote:this overrated chump.
Anyways, I think this would be a really interesting fight. Martinez`s moving would cause Trinidad problems but he would not be as hard to find as say, De La Hoya was. Martinez`s work rate and handspeed gives him ample opportunity to catch Trindad but it also allows Tito more chances as well. Their chins and heart are comparable and I can see them both being dropped. Trindad has a power edge but Martinez is the naturally bigger guy. Their stamina seems similar too.
Against the best southpaws on his resume, Tito was good but not great. He whooped Pineda, he beat Whitaker and Camacho by decision, and got schooled by Wright. Camacho seems like the closest style comparison to Martinez, though there are clear differences. Martinez`s closest stylistic foe was maybe Margarito but that was very early in Sergio`s career. Tough fight to pick because I can see it going either way.
If they fought once, I say Trindidad by UD. In a 3 fight series, Martinez wins.

De la Hoya's movement and boxing frustrated the hell out of Tito, leaving him impotent. Martinez is much trickier than Oscar, and his unorthodox style would leave Trinidad reaching, stumbling and missing all night. Tito didn't show much ability to cut off the ring against ODLH, so I don't see how he would ever corner Sergio. Unless Martinez gets stupid like he did in the 12th against Chavez Jr., he literally waltzes to an easy decision.

Re: Felix Trinidad v Sergio Martinez 154lbs
Tito would stop Sergio in about 6 or 7 rounds. Sergio was not slick enough for Margarito that just simple went after him and stop him. I hear the excuses that Sergio was green. Not true, Sergio simple does not have a great chin and Tito would have cracked that chin sooner or later. Sergio could be slick but he is way hittable. People say that Tito can not handle slick fighters but he handled David Reid fine. I picture the same thing. And if Tito could not handle slick fighter then Sergio could not handle punchers such as Tito. Sergio wins a few rounds until until Tito catches him and then is lights out. Sergio would not survive Trinidad's power.
