If Groves was to fight Abraham how would you see it going?

Post by lefty »

I was just rewatching Groves from saturday night and whilst he's definietly got ability in terms of speed and punching power, im still not convinced about his all round boxing ability! He showed Against Degale that he can box but theres so many fights ive seen of him where he's so open to big shots that he's asking for trouble! Anyway I was asking this question because there seems to be a fair few people from what ive read that think that Groves could easily outbox Abraham. Im not totally convinced as like I said Groves is very open at times and against a puncher like Abraham especially if your chin isnt cast iron like Froch's is he could be in trouble! So anyway, yeah what do you gents think?

I think Adam Booth plans for fights really well. He's prob happy Groves being flashy and open going for the KO against opponants he's been facing lately to impress. You saw against DeGale he was a lot more defensive minded so I can see him tightening up

You'd hope so or theres a strong chance he'd get poleaxed!

I think he loses. I think Magee would be a good fight next.

I could see him outboxing Abraham to a UD but AA would be dangerous for every second he's in there as i'm not sure George can stand up to a full flush shot on the chin from the top guys. Froch has shown the blue-print on how to beat Abraham and GG certainly has the jab, movement and workrate to do it for 12 rounds. I mentioned in another thread that George will box better and more cautiously when fighting opponents he believes to be dangerous and i can't imagine him underestimating AA though i think there will be a few hairy moments along the way.

I agree though, he should fight magee next before AA.

Groves would outbox Abraham similar to the way Froch dominated the fight. Box and move all night and it would be a points win I've no doubt about it.

It`s difficult to tell with Groves. I would like to see him in a gruelling 12 rounder like DeGale has had a couple of times now.

Abraham has a good chin it would seem but he doesn't fight for 3 minutes each round.

George could rack up the points against Arthur if he keeps his discipline for the twelve but if Arthur connects hard I could see Groves in trouble.
I thought Steiglitz was a better fight for George when it was lined up but think he has a chance against AA for sure.

Arthur Abraham is a tough come forward fighter who packs a hefty whack in his punches and has hell of a jaw after going the distance with Edison Miranda one of the biggest punchers in boxing with a broken jaw for eight rounds of their first fight back in 2006. However with his slow footwork and penchant for the big knockout he is there for the taking if his opponent works off the jab and disg effectively the body (aller Carl Froch) and uses their footwork (aller Andre Dirrell) to frustrate Abraham and keep him at bay. I do think Groves has got both, however he does have a tendancy to get cut (see fight against Francesco Sierra) and has also been dropped (see fight against Kenny Anderson) which can give Abraham some hope.... But the templement is there plus Groves has Adam Booth in his corner so I think Groves sticks to the plan and does not get dragged into a tear up he beats Abraham quite comfortably.

Abraham doesn't have major power at 168.

His shots are heavy and even cause his opponents to lose their balance due to the force of the blows, but despite landing well he hasn't seriously hurt a decent opponent in a while, including Stieglitz and Wilczewski, who have been dropped and stopped before.

True. Groves has been hurt against lesser punching guys I believe though in anderson and also Francisco sierra hurt him when they fought.

good chance if remaining disciplined and Mr Booth would prepare him as such

AA might be one or two fights down the frog and toad yet though.

Sakio Bika, would be a good learning experience. a tough fight but a good measuring stick to see where The Saint is. The guy is game and durable and still has aspirations I believe.

then maybe Abrahams could be an option on the way to a shot at the title. All tests to pass

a "L" in one of his next 2 or 3, wouldn't be the end of the story either if he makes a mistake stepping up in class, whoever that may be against. It happens to most (see De Gale). Hope it doesn't happen, but MMH once said he learned more from his losses than most of his wins. He's not the worst man to listen to.

Think groves could win easily but at any given moment Arthur could walk through him.
Groves would fight cat & mouse & the drama of him escaping a chinning is what this fight would be.shouldnt make this fight yet

Bika or Adonis Stevenson would be a good fight if Hearn could make worthwhile for Stevenson to risk his number 1 ranking with the IBF. Dangerous fight though as Stevenson can certainly bang aswell.
