Smug Eddie pushing for Froch Vs Groves

Post by saturday_kid »

So we all know the Kessler fight is basically more down to Carl himself wanting the fight - and Bute was a mandatory. So basically all Eddie has got for Carl is the defence against Mack, probably Carl's poorest fight for years.

And we all know if it was down to Carl if he beat Kessler or even if he didn't he wants Ward aswell - but reading comments from Eddie Hearn the other day he was saying he thinks that fight is hard to make, and was muting a fight with Groves down the line.

Me personally I think Hearn knows the Ward fight will be too expensive/difficult to make and he would like to put Froch against Groves where obviosuly Matchroom will be the main winner (big domestic fight, Froch wins they continue with him being number one, Groves wins it elevates him into top spot, a sort of passing of the torch).

Given, Hearn has got Froch back at home fighting, but remember Fat Mick brought Carl through, commonwealth/british/world champion all almost exclusively at home in Notts.
Froch is a true warrior and i know he will want to fight the best and avenge his losses, I just think maybe smooth Eddie will talk him round (look at the Mack fight) into softer fights to line his pockets.

Your thoughts?

thought Ward said he would come to ol' Blighty

If/when Froch beats Kessler and Ward agrees a fight in UK
It will be made
Numbers would be huge for Carl/Andre etc

Not 100 percent sure no, but the point I am making is its Froch that has pushed for the tough fights not any promoter

Id rather see Froch vs Groves.

Wards is a slippery, negative operator and will probably be another 12 UD win over Froch in a very cagey fight.

I think Groves (the young gun) against the old fox Froch is more interesting.

Tell me if im badly wrong ?

Basically you are having a go at Hearn for some reason, saying any good fights that Froch has had / will get is all down to Carl and any fights that dont live up to your expectations are down to Hearn.

How can Hearn win in your eyes?

Nope you're spot on, unless Carl can pull off a great shot from somewhere (possibility)

Not having a go at all, just pointing out Hearn isn't the saviour of Froch's career people proclaim and that Fat Mick actually got him better opportunities, but Mick couldn't promote Froch like Hearn can i'll admit that.

I'm also saying is Hearn pushing Froch into a a path that benefits himself more than the one Carl would choose.

Personally as a fight I would prefer to see Groves Vs Froch for the same reasons someone mentioned above, but I wasn't making that point.

Carl, Eddie and Sky will want no part of Ward. It would be a stupid move wherever it was held. Ward is p4p top 3.

not wrong at all, no
it all depends on whether Ward is makeable, here in the UK
if it is
£££££££££ kerching!!!!!!!
Carl will do what is best for him and his family. He is a sensible chap. Ward (and Kessler) is/are difficult, but not impossible.

you thinking on each fight - I sort of agree with. but I would totally mark out if Ward II was made.
Can you imagine if he beat Ward? Then we would have a genuine "undisputed" champ (and I don't mean every belt), not seen since Lewis, Honeyghan, Calzaghe

As for the thread; Eddie probably has heard stories (from Barry H) of the 90s and a certain series of fights between UK fighters - similar weight class - can't think of the names involved though ??????
again Kerching!!!!!

but Carl has other fish to fry first. If that doesn't pan out (bad pun) then domestic tear ups if he needs them for the retirement fund.

I don't really think there's that much money in a rematch with Ward, he already lost fairly conclusively to him and Ward is not box office.

he lost to Kessler too, also away from home as it were
so after giving Bute a real hiding
and now if he reverses Kessler decision

IF Eddie can make Andre Ward in Notts
it would be huge
Ward might not be Box Office....But to the UK fan...Froch certainly is and you would get enough buys I am sure from UK and US combined.

I think had it not been for the fights that George has had fall through since the DeGale fight, he'd already be at World Level and would be a genuine opponent for Carl. As it is I think a fight between them in 12-18 months would be the right time for Groves to be stepping up to the top table. I think he will be a World Champion long before that but not by beating one of the elite fighters in the division.

I think if Froch stays at the level of performance he is currently producing then that would be a mouthwatering prospect and one that I would pay big money to see. My real worry about the feasibility of that is that Froch either loses to Kessler or Ward and retires - which I could understand, in his position where else is there to go after that; a domestic fight with Groves would be a decent payday but very little else for Carl - or his performance level slips over that time and he's something of a busted flush and he swaps positions with Groves by that time.

Either way I'm not convinced we will ever see this fight, unfortunately. I'm even less convinced we will see Froch face DeGale, as he was wishing for with that recent article in The Scum.

The Kessler loss was wafer thin, maybe a point or two. It was also a good, close and evenly matched contest. They are both up for the fight and we're (injuries aside) almost guaranteed a good fight. Ok so it wasn't Hagler/Hearns but most neutrals had it on their FOTY list.

The Ward fight was totally one-sided and not really that interesting to watch.

The fight would not be ppv inthe US. He wont come here. It wont happen. Groves on the other hand, would fill The O2 no problem along with Carl. Forget Ward.

Bute wasnt froch mandatory as froch was challenging and froch wasnt mandatory for bute. It was the best paid fight for both at the time. Carl wanted a belt and buye wanted to keep himself as best in the divison along with ward with the aim of ward vs bute as wanted by showtime. Didnt happen though

He wasn't mandatory but was the highest ranking challenger and and was going to be made mandatory

Andre Ward doesn't need to come to England to fight Froch they could fight a 100 times in Carls front garden and the result would be the same styles make fights and Ward is all wrong for Froch

I wouldn't say Ward is that negative. Him, and people like Dirrell will always give Carl problems and make him look clumsey and frustrated, so yeah, entertainment wise Groves is a better fight but way too soon at the moment.

Froch Bellew would be a good scrap up at Light Heavy, but I appreciate Carl is more than comfortable at 168.

i belive this aswell i'd rather see hopkins come down and try to do supermiddle and get a belt there, fight his mandatory adonis as ive been a fan of him since his 10th fight (he was featured in the ring so i looked him up) a fight with tough bika as he always likes a scrap or golovkin if he moved up for the fight

Groves ain't known at world stage by fighting on frochs bills hopefully he will get decent exposure & unless it draws overseas attention Hearn aint going to lose out.
Groves needs to bring somthing to the table first & by that time froch will be on the slide if it happens & groves may sighn a 3 fight deal with somebody else

Haha I love this. Hearn getting stick for Carl's opponents. People are begging for Groves now but you can guarantee if that was made people will complain about it being an easy fight, or a step backwards. Can't win with some people!

I personally think it's only viable as a boxing match (nowt to do with the money it will generate) if Groves wins a world title in his next couple of fights.
