Eddie: non payment of fighters has to stop
Eddie: non payment of fighters has to stop
http://www.skysports.com/opinion/story/ ... 17,00.html
Hearn Jnr has posted an opinion piece on the Sky Sports website demanding the Board act over late and non payment of fighters by promoters in the UK. He seems to suggest that unless the Board act, e will 'out' promoters.
This could be the start of open warfare in British boxing.

Re: Eddie: non payment of fighters has to stop
Fair enough, how many of you would go to work without knowing when and indeed if you were getting paid.
Re: Eddie: non payment of fighters has to stop
He also writes terribly. Safe to presume Fast Eddie didn't ace his English exams.....

More subtle than FW's column in the NOTW was, but if you can't see what this column is really trying to achieve then you can go and stand in the "easily manipulated" corner.earsjohn wrote:http://www.skysports.com/opinion/story/ ... 17,00.html

If the fighter and his management team don't press for being paid then more fool them.
It's not Big Mini Bazza Hearns place to be so self righteous.
BMBH ( Big Mini Bazza Hearn) should concentrate on putting on better cads than the toilet he did on Saturday. When the best fight is a Area Title then you need to fix up!!

100% correct eddie on the payment of boxers The Board can and must act when regulations are breeched on payment terms
Re: Eddie: non payment of fighters has to stop
So the non payment of fighters is an invalid topic to attempt to address because Hearn had the indignity to be born into a life a little better off than most?Ratchet Exits Nu wrote:Agree, we all like to kick bunny in his hutch, but a man rich off of daddy should not be playing preacher.MachoMan09 wrote:I wish there was actually some open warfare in British boxing. If fighters are getting into the ring having agreed to be paid a certain amount, but dont get said amount, surely something needs to be done? And it's all well blaming the fighters, but, as you well know, they are often backed into a corner and have little choice but to put up with the status quo - 3-4 months without being paid is better than a year without being able to box (and therefore earn) as you're caught up in a lengthy legal battle.

Re: Eddie: non payment of fighters has to stop
What on earth has Eddie Hearns' family wealth got to do with this.
If he is campaigning for fighters to be paid on time, and is managing to pay all of his fighters on time, then he has every right to raise this issue. This is not a recent issue either - this has been going on for quite some time now.

Re: Eddie: non payment of fighters has to stop
Should be that if a boxer isn't paid within 1 week in full then any contract the promoter has with the boxer is invalid and the boxer can walk away and the promoter can not operate until he pays the boxer.

This was Eddie's darts moniker, which he had to drop after Steve Beaton got the hump. The mullet and tache had to go also.MachoMan09 wrote: the silver-spooned Adonis .

i get it but second place I'm afraid just pipped at the post. I've no allegiance anywhere, but without Matchroom, other sports ( I mean not football/rugby/ tennis) wouldn't be marketed / shown and the growth in some minority sports and resurgence in others is down to Big Barry and his vision and ability to make moolah.
I suppose a nickname on here is a badge of honour though for the promotors out there. As long as it is in good fun

but on the subject matter. there cannot be an argument. where guys have been delayed their salary, for an inordinate amount of time, this needs to be sorted so mortgages can be paid and training costs met....No problem with this being highlighted then
Someone's got to say it - if it is deemed as point scoring...Never mind, as long as the result ultimately benefits the guys putting their health on the line

It should be in boxers contract as it's in my work contract. IE when they sign the contract it states the exact date the money will be deposited (ie last working day of the month), give bank details, set up bank link, job done

I'd rather work for a lad born into wealth who paid me on time then a shady character who consistently took the piss out of me!

In that case, his rivals shouldn't give him the ammunition to make these allegations. Paying boxers late or not at all is either unacceptable and needs to be stopped or its acceptable and nothing should be done. I know which side of the fence most boxers and fans sit, even if the way it happens is the result of promotional point scoring.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:What on earth has Eddie Hearns' family wealth got to do with this.

Re: Eddie: non payment of fighters has to stop
To be fair, there are numerous people who have been pussy footing around this subject for ages.
Each and every one of them has had the power to resolve this by taking appropriate action initially via the Board.
How many complaints have been raised ? Zero to my knowledge.
Why ? Fear.
So Eddie has come out now to be a spokesman for the masses but it won't resolve anything.
Robert Smith has said time and time again if there are issues utilise the correct channels.
It's clearly a broadside across the boughs of a certain Promotor in the ensuing turf war.
If Eddie was asked to be specific how many fighters do you think would come forward ?
I don't think many, if any, unless they had the stability of knowing if they were given the push by a certain Promotor that Eddie would pick up the pieces.
Eddie can't sign everyone.
He's already approaching Sky to extend his number of dates so that he can keep everyone active.
Let me make it clear no way do I condone anyone in any walk of life not receiving payment for their services, least of all in a dangerous sport like boxing.
The fighters put it all on the line, no one else.
However Eddie can't sort this and the first step like it or loathe it is a complaint to the Board by the "injured" party.

Eddie Hearn is so outraged by fighters being paid late that he posted a blog about it on SKYSports website.Parson Cross wrote:To be fair, there are numerous people who have been pussy footing around this subject for ages.

Mandella, Ghandi, King, Hearns?
Re: Eddie: non payment of fighters has to stop
I get your point and there's no doubt that its a self serving column. But is it not better to have this addressed publically, even if intentions are less than noble, than to continue sweeping it all under the carpet? Given that no-one in boxing can be described as truly impartial, how would you suggest boxers go about getting paid what they are due when they are due?Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:Eddie Hearn is so outraged by fighters being paid late that he posted a blog about it on SKYSports website.Parson Cross wrote:To be fair, there are numerous people who have been pussy footing around this subject for ages.

Doesn't have to be one of those horrific boxing "insiders" just someone who understands business.

What if the manager you are tied into a contract with also happens to be the promoter that hasn't paid you on time?

Thats what you get if sign your life away to 1 guy.
Get a manager from outside the boxing business and have him deal with the promoter.

Somebody who has managed bands would be a good choice, they have to get money out of dodgy promoters every night on tour.
If I ever turn pro ill get Alan Erasmus to manage me.
And Peter Saville to design my trunks and Martin Hannet to produce my 1st album.
Etc
