Is Eddie Hearn any better than allegedly?

Post by lefty »

I just saw the thread for Ricky burns next opponent and its got me thinking, is Hearn any better than FW than when it comes to matching his fighters? He has this big deal with sky and has a lot of dates but I think he's put on a lot of mismatches already to be honest! Froch vs Mack , Bellew vs Miranda *yes miranda was a dangerous fighter but I think he's pretty shot now*, Bellew vs Bolonti, Brook vs Jones, Brook vs Saldivia and so forth. Anyway, the point im making is FW has gotten a lot of stick over time for the matches he's made and I agree in a fair few instances but is Hearn actually in reality any better? To me Hearn just seems better in front of a camera and in the PR department and portraying the image of an ordinary fella *excluding the designer suits he wears*. Yeah so anyone have a similar feeling regarding Hearn?

Barry Hearn always treated his fighters very well, had a great personal touch too.
He was also responsible for Eubanks WBO reign and Matchroom had a very close relationship with the IBO

No axes to grind but I think the famous Northern saying "they all piss in the same pot" is about right.

Good post - I completely agree.... the only think I thing is quite innovative is that he is getting his ticket sellers on bills together, so getting the big venues - which will hopefully in time mean more money so that he can attract the big names on a consistent basis.

I think he is using the Darts model quite a bit - look how Sky are now using the Cobra graphics etc. He's trying to make his fighters more main stream. This then could attract the bigger stars.

At the moment it is looking poor cause you have all the hype but with no opponent. Hopefully this will change.... I think it is more likely to change for Hearn than for Warren just going by the venue's his bills are attracting. Warren is still York Hall or some leisure centre in the main.

I know Saldivia was an official eliminator ordered by the IBF and im sure both Jones and Bolonti were ranked above Brook and Bellew respectively

Well thats quite like FW though, he seems to be becoming the promoter of the IBF like FW has been with the WBO over the years.

I was just thinking that today when i was at work funnily enough, hopefully the IBF wont be as lenient with the boxers contesting their titles as the WBO were

Eddie has only been going a couple of years so there are not as many [edited by Mod]. Though Mr Hearn is in the ascendency I imagine that the astute Mr Warren has not retired just yet. If he chooses to then I imagine that in 20 or so years Mr Hearn will be as disrespected, derided and disliked as Mr warren seems to be by boxing fans.

Eddie is miles better than frank at the moment, but it is still early days...

Frank has done some wonderful things with he's fighters over the years, but he also done some despicable things to he's fighters and the fans.

Eddie has yet to not pay a fighter on time, is yet to take one of he's clients to court, is yet to advertise something knowing full well that what he was advertising wasn't what he's going to deliver.

But as I say for young Eddie it's still early day's but I imagine he's learned a lot from Frankie no fighters mistakes.

Burns for example, can guarantee that he will now get paid his agreed fight purse, in full and on time. That in itself is an improvement and therefore gives Hearn a relative advantage.

...people really complaining about Brook v Jones? Look what Warren did with Brook then look at what Hearn has done with him.

Where would be Brook be right now if he hadn't moved on ? Hard to criticise Hearn on that example

Didnt FW offer Brook a fight against Mike jones when Jones was unbeaten for a shot at the title like 2 years ago?

...only in the same way he's been offering Cleverly a Hopkins fight for 2 years I think

Absolutely spot on. Additionally, Eddie doesn't seem to sue his way through life or dissolve Matchroom when a high court judge decides he owes a fighter almost two million quid.

As far as I recall Brook was intent on coming to the end of his contract with w.arren and then leaving, his dad made it quite clear that Kell would not sign an extension or a new contract. Hence Kell languishing in the doldrums in nothing fights - why would Fwank start building him towards the big time knowing Kell was going to walk away ? If a WBO title fight with Mike Jones was offered, I imagine it was the kind of offer that meant Kell would have to sign a new long term contract.

There was no WBO belt around Jones' waist, it was a bout that was dangled in front of him with the winner needing to go through Pacquiao anyway to get a strap and you really think Warren could have made that one?

No, and more to the point, it would appear Kell and his dad didn't either !

Jesus. Hearn was the second coming a few months ago and now he is being slagged off. Some people will never be happy.

Eddie seems to treat his fighters better (so far) but as to wether he will provide us the fans with great fights, the jury is still well out. He hasn't done great so far.
