New Tony Sibson book

Post by dalcumly »

I've been given permission to let Forum members know of a new book I'm bringing out on Tony Sibson. Its a hardback with 232 pages and will be available in March, hopefully from the 1st.
Its self published so will not be in the shops. People can get it from me direct , by going into their local book shop and ordering it, or by going online to Amazon, WH Smith etc. If you go into Amazon in about 2/3 days time you can see the image of the book. The photo was reproduced by kind permission of Action Images. Bob Mee done the Foreword and was a tremendous help throughout.
The book is not simply a run through of Tony's fights but a more in depth look behind the scenes particularly at the emotions which effect boxers who fight at the top level.
Boxing Monthly recommended my other book on Dave Charnley but made criticism because I failed to bring out his personality. I couldn't because Dave was ageing fast and his memory was very poor. However that's certainly not the case with this book because Tony's memory is excellent.
If anyone wants more information please feel free to send me a meassge.

I really ripped into the guy a few weeks ago when i thought he incorrectly scored a bout against my fighter on the white collar dinner show i mentioned on here recently , scoring it to Kevin Concepcion , the Home fighter .

At the time i didnt realise who he was and when i found out i went over to apologise but still said i stood by my point of view he was wrong

He retired when i was 8 , its perfectly ok that i didnt recognise him ..... isnt it ...

From what i can remember on Sibson, he was a boxer who struggled with his confidence at times, when everything was on form he was a very good boxer, his win over John Collins being one of those times.
But other times he found it hard with the mental side of the fight game, but saying that he would always go out and try and overcome this.

I've got about 10 of his fights at home maybe more, and is one guy i like to watch now and again.

I'll look forward to reading this, Sibbo was a fighter you could guarantee would throw the kitchen sink at his opponent.

Excellent left hook, as noted he was barrel chested in the darren gough mould.

Rather surprising when looking at Sibsons record that his KO percentage is 49%. You would think it would be higher as he is always remembered as a big puncher.

Is that including losses though?

In other words some people calculate KO% as a percentage of total fights, whereas some calculate it as a % of wins only.

Not sure which I prefer.....

entire fights including losses, so just taking his wins it would be 57%

How much will it be?... also will you be giving signed copies?. Be nice to read about the behind the scenes of Tonys fights with people such as Hagler, Minter and Kaylor etc. Also be interested in what it has on his fights with Frankie Lucas and Kevin Finnegan.

Thanks for showing an interest. I'm trying to arrange a book signing in Leicester for 23 March but if that doesn't happen I'll be getting books signed. It'll be £17.99 plus postage unless you order it from your local bookshop then the postage will be free ( but it will not be signed).

I've covered the build up to the Collins fight quite extensively. I won't go into details but if I'd been involved with Sibson in the days leading up to the fight I'd have bet my house on him winning !!

As a kid I had some photos done with Sibbo at Freddie Hill's Lavender Hill gym when he was Commonwealth Middleweight champion. Top fighter and a top fella whose ability and style would have won him a World title if Hagler was not around. Under rated boxing skills too. Fantastic, strong jab.

I was lucky enough to do a bit of work with Brian Hill (passed a couple of years back) who worked with Sibbo for a while. One of my families greatest boxing nights was when Sibbo beat Brian Anderson for the British title; The Royal Albert was rocking that night! Cracking memories from a cracking fighter.

Tweeting and Facebook are beyond me - I don't know what they do really. But my son has 'tweeted' the book and put it on 'facebook' and I'm getting lots of enquiries about the book. People are going onto Amazon and seeing that they book is apparently unavailable. THE BOOK IS AVAILABLE its just that if Amazon don't stock it then they declare its unavailable . If people would like it then contact me direct , in which case they can get the book immediately or they can go into their local book shop and order it .
