Man, I did not know that Esteban won by a large margin? I have not seen the fight, but I will see it very soon. Thanks for the post.

Many of the boxing experts thought that Ishimatsu Suzuki would be too strong for Esteban,
wear him down, and stop him by a late TKO.

Definitely a 'high-quality' win for Esteban. Maybe his 'best' complete performance.
Esteban should be in the hall of fame.

The 'loss' to Sweet Saoul Mamby sealed his fate though.

If Roberto wasn't there - Esteban would have ruled the Lightweight Division from
1972 thru 1978...

And, he fought Antonio 'Kid Pambele' Cervantes when Robert wouldn't....
He lost decisively, though. I don't give resume credit for HOF induction for decisive losses like that.

Esteban De Jesus goes into the 'Hall of Fame' as per the 'Computer'

Most likely would have ruled the Lightweight Division from mid-1972 thru early-1978.

Could see Lightweight Championship wins over,

* September 1972....Ken Buchanan (WBA Lightweight Championship)
* December 1972.....Ruben Navarro

* February 1973.......Ray Lampkin
* May 1973.............Johnny Gant
* September 1973....Ishimatsu 'Guts' Suzuki

* March 1974..........Hector Thompson
* June 1974............Miguel Mayan
* October 1974........Ken Buchanan 'II'

* March 1975..........Ray Lampkin 'II'
* May 1975..{Loss}.Antonio Cervantes (For the WBA Light Welterweight Championship)
* September 1975...Arturo Pineda
* December 1975....Ishimatsu 'Guts' Suzuki 'II'

* March 1976..........Edwin Viruet
* May 1976.............Ishimatsu 'Guts' Suzuki 'III'
* September 1976 ..Hector Medina

* January 1977......Buzzsaw Yamabe
* March 1977........Vilomar Fernandez
* June 1997..........Vicente Mijares
* October 1977......Edwin Viruet 'II'

* February 1978....Alfredo Pitalua
* May 1978...........Saensak Muangsurin (WBC Light Welterweight Championship)
Well, there was a Duran.:)

I consider Esteban De Jesus an all-time top 20 lightweight great. His only 2 losses at lightweight was against a man he fought 3 times, decking him in the first round in the first two and beating him in the first fight. Was the only fighter to beat the great Roberto Duran in his prime, being Manos de Piedra at his very best.
