How long will it take to get fighting fit

Post by forcefraser »

I was amazed at how Ricky Hatton went from lardy to fighting fit in a relatively short period of time. i mean the guy had a serious beer belly and he got rid of all of this and was in great shape when he fought senchenko.

I have a bit of a beer gut and although I don`t want to get into Hatton style shape, I would like to make a proper effort to get well toned and at least a hint of a six pack. I`ll be 40 next month and I guess it`s the old now or never approach.

I have tried the low carb diet which works well for a quick results , but is a pain to stay on long term.

Any ideas for a program that will get me in great shape? with particular emphasis on the stomach.

I am about 5 ft 9 inches and weigh 13 stone. I reckon I should lose about 1 1/2 stone to be fighting fit.

It depends how commited you are. If you're a newbie to the sport it will take longer as more focus should be on skill, less of fitness. With me, I tend to go from zero fitness (drinking and sitting on my arse for months) to fighting fights in about 9-12 weeks

Don't bother with diets. If you don't make gains you'll blame it on your diet and constantly change it and your body won't adapt. Simply eat healhy (fruit, veg, healthy fats) cut down on carbs (save them for breakfast, lunch) and eat less or spread your meals out over the day (5/6 smaller instead of 3 big).

If you work out enough you'll be fine. I lose 2 stone often in 9 weeks or so and don't follow any diet and don't starve my body of carbs

I disagree. You can't out train bad diet, especially at 39 yo, as already mentioned. Giving your own example doesn't say much as these things are individual. Best go VLC, and when rached plateau, start carb cycling.
