Do we really need titles any more ?
Do we really need titles any more ?
Given the way world bodies have manipulated the situation, and the perception from some promoters that television companies DEMAND title fights, do we, as boxing fans really care anymore, providing we see a reasonably well matched fight ?
Ricky Burns v Broner over 12 rounds without a title on the line - would it effect the viewing figures? Don't think so. All the broadcasters would need to say was that the best 2 lightweights in the world were fighting each other.

no we wouldn't care about a title as long as the general public knew it was the best against the best. otherwise Joe Schmoe the undefeated no name would still be the darling of the internet/underworld masses.
which is why an indepenent body needs to grasp this.
We (the hardcore and public) need to know who The Man is

No the titles are nothing now.
All we need is a strong fan unity and a unified voice. I propose a fans organisation who have the power in numbers to hold a vote and decide who the best fighters are and who should fight who, if they don't, then we boycott until the money men get the fight on.

Stopped paying attention to titles years ago.
I do follow boxing closely and I know well who the top fighters of today are, but have no clue or care which belt they hold.
I just don't pay attention to that part anymore.
As a result, I'm finding it a lot less frustrating being a boxing fan now.
In fact, these days I'm probably enjoying being a fan as mush as I have at any point since I started watching boxing in the early 1980s.
I highly recommend not giving a toss about belts and titles.
Focus on the fight, not the belt.

Re: Do we really need titles any more ?
these titles will always be around as long as fighters are fighting for them the best way to stop it is to not use them simple ? also the board do need to say no to some of these titles being used in britain i mean i never met anyone who can tell me what a british masters champion is a champion of ??

british masters champ is a snooker player - dont know his name though
Re: Do we really need titles any more ?
I totally disagree with all the titles, should make it area title, country, british, european and world.
Although The British Master Bronze is ok as Ronnie Clark holds that at super featherweight so thats credible.
P4P British Masters Bronze Champion haha
