Channel Five pulled out of boxing ?
Re: Channel Five pulled out of boxing ?
Isn't this weeks Ringside a James DeGale special? If so it seems strange that SKY would invest time and money on someone who fights on another channel under another promoter unless......
Re: Channel Five pulled out of boxing ?
It's been about 16 hours now since this story started circulating. If it was nothing more than lies why hasn't someone from Hennessy Sports debunked the story via their website, Twitter, Facebook, boxing forums or Youtube? In the age of instant messaging you wouldn't sit on something like this if if was rubbish. You would come out and let the truth be known. Especially after all the recent speculation from Eddie Hearn that other promoters fighters are contacting him about joining Matchroom.Boxing Prospect wrote:Seems like a rumour started by Maloney and Warren who both have vested interest with their own TV deals which reach no where near the figure that Fury was getting, in fact Fury's audience figures don't just dwarf what Loaded and Allegedly channel get seem to have helped make Fury a household name.

Explain why next weeks show has been ditched then boxing prospect. It's laughable you think that Wazza and mini me have put a rumour out to unrest Meary Mick's camp.

If it's true, Hennesy won't struggle to find a home for Tyson Fury. He's had a lot of exposure thus far and is a on the cusp of a world title fight.
Re: Channel Five pulled out of boxing ?
I was told this by some one in the boxing bussn. at our show on friday night, And let me say if this is true it is very bad for boxing and i feel for MH as he is a hard working and has build some good fighters from the start of there career, Do not write MH of he has be here before if is true. Boxing fan's should be writing to the TV company's tell them they want boxing on there station's

Keith moon,
No one doubts that but isn't Mick just his Promotor ? So if he moves on no role for Mick ?

Re: Channel Five pulled out of boxing ?
I wonder if C5 are pissed that Fury/Price hasn't hapened. MH was given a lifeline by C5, and yet when you hear the interviews it's the same old promotional shite. Boxing promoters simply don't learn. You can't spend years developing talent on someone else's dime these days. The money isn't there and tv companies want results.

It's still the same. David Price is the perfect example. He moved television channels, but is still promoted by Uncle Frank.Parson Cross wrote:Keith moon,

Re: Channel Five pulled out of boxing ?
It seems a bit mad that C5 would ditch boxing now when Fury is about to hit the big time, i was under the impression they were getting great viewing figures for the boxing. Is it a case that they arent willing to pay the price for the big fights?ArtOfWar wrote:I wonder if C5 are pissed that Fury/Price hasn't hapened. Surely it's the nature of the numbers watching that matters more than the actual numbers themselves? What I mean is that your teenage girl who texts in to vote and shares her viewing experiences across multiple social platforms is going to be a more valuable viewer (to advertisers in particular) than your average boxing fan (lower income, older, less "connected" online). I just don't see that boxing, in its current state, appeals to the masses in a way that TV companies consider valuable.

Good points, although boxing has its own version of this, boxing fans watch the fights and then go online to slag somebody off

It all boils down to one thing and one thing only..... How much do you pay for the product and how much will people pay to advertize? A - B = C
If the sums don't add up and it's more cost effective to show a Van Damne movie or a reality show, then which one would you choose? C5 is a business after all.

Re: Channel Five pulled out of boxing ?
I think they would be foolish to drop it at this particular moment in time. I expect them to drop it at some point but if Fury beats Cunningham they are potentially looking at a summer world titlle shot for him. If thats the case he will get massive viewing figures. If he loses it sure, drop him and drop boxing i can see why a tv executive would after he lost but when he is on the cusp, its madness.

Re: Channel Five pulled out of boxing ?
Ive emailed channel 5 addressing the rumours and explaining that i feel if true that its a stupid idea and should increase their boxing output rather than pull it off the air , im sure its not going to make any difference but still felt the need to vent my frustration .

I suppose it is the only way they will know how we feel.Looking On wrote:Ive emailed channel 5 addressing the rumours and explaining that i feel if true that its a stupid idea and should increase their boxing output rather than pull it off the air , im sure its not going to make any difference but still felt the need to vent my frustration .
Here is a link to their feedback page:

For the sake of the sport, and fans who can't afford subscription TV, we should really try to swamp them with our feedback.

Re: Channel Five pulled out of boxing ?
yeah i just emailed them as well, no point sitting about just complaining on a forum when you can spend 5 minutes complaining to the organ grinders.
Re: Channel Five pulled out of boxing ?
So what could be the problem? Do they think it costs too much, are boxers on 5 overpaid in 5's opinion? Ultimately it is the TV execs who decide what a boxer is worth these days, and if they are now deciding DeGale, Eubank jr & Fury are not worth it, even at 2 million viewing figures, which at that time of night they should be happy with considering all the text happy customers are glued to the competition/crap on ITV & BBC, then boxing is seriously on it's arse when it comes to TV.
BBC should be doing more. They are happy to ride the waves during the Olympics, then they don't give a fornicate for the next 4 years. They rake in over £5 billion from us, and we do not even get a say on what sports we get.

Did you know that you dont legally have to pay that , which i refuse to do so until they start to show boxing again ,
Ill attach a link to a site which tells you about it .

Re: Channel Five pulled out of boxing ?
Okay, so boxing thinks it is worth more than what people are willing to pay for it. Is than not a simple solution? Make boxing attractive financially to terrestrial. Higher exposure & lower pay is what boxing will have to accept to thrive again. If it is not viable to put on a show, pay the bills, at least break even, all while getting some TV exposure, then that is the point at which boxing is dead as a full time TV sport.
I went to an unlicensed show Friday with approx 600 people in attendance, I have another next week with similar numbers. I bet that is more than most small-hall shows around the UK these days. People pay to see 50/50 fights.

You mean like when Hatton, Hamed and Lewis were fighting on SKY and no boxing was on free TV at all?rm1 wrote:Without boxing on free to view TV the sport will gradually recede into a ghetto.
