Cervantes/Arcari.
Cervantes/Arcari.
Who wins the unification? Cervantes stops him late IMHO, likely on cuts. Too bad it never happened.

Was there ever talk of this fight?Il Duce wrote:Mr. Rover,
Agree -
Antonio at (5' 9") probably slices up 'cut prone' Bruno Arcari (5' 5") and eventually stops him by
a very late TKO, in a very 'evenly' fought bout.
Bruno, one 'tricky southpaw' though.
Re: Cervantes/Arcari.
That's too bad, as that would've been far better than some of the other fights those two had. Wonder why it wasn't contemplated.Il Duce wrote:No,
But, Bruno Arcari wanted to go after Jose Napoles in late-1974, because he could not make
the 140 lb. weight limit anymore.
Re: Cervantes/Arcari.
AC would spark him.
Re: Cervantes/Arcari.
Arcari would have given a good account of himself. He was tough southpaw, but he would have been at a height disadvantage vs Cervantes and probably gotten slapped around a bit. I would go with Cervantes by UD

I saw him fight in Italy, and nobody could defeat Bruno in Italia ------- well maybe the 'POPE'....

How'd you score Cervantes/Furuyama?Il Duce wrote:In December 1973 -
Japanese Light Welterweight - 'southpaw' Lion Furuyama gave 'Kid Pambele' hell for 15-Rounds.
The bout was much closer than the scorecards indicate.
Bruno Arcari was 'miles' better than Lion Furuyama in 1973.
If Antonio couldn't cut Bruno, this bout would go down to the last 3-Rounds.

Why didn't it happen?Il Duce wrote:Antonio Cervantes vs. Lion Furuyama
Official Scorecards;
* Referee - Jesus Celis (Venezuela)........148-140 (10-2-3 in Rounds)
* Judge - Harmodio Cedeno (Panama)....147-141 (9-2-3 in Rounds)
* Judge - Jual Carlos Tapia (Panama).....149-141 (9-1-5 in Rounds)
I think the '3' Latin Officials went a little 'Loco' in their judging.
Boxing News had it 146-143 (7-4-4) in Rounds.
Round 8 {2:00 Mark} the 5' 7" Challenger nailed Antonio with a wicked left hand and
a 'triple' right hook that shook him pretty good.
Lion was the aggressor thoughout the bout, and repeatedly caught Antonio
with straight left hand leads.
'Kid Pameble' landed more punches, but nothing hurt Lion.
A suggested rematch (in Japan) was put in play for 1974.
Re: Cervantes/Arcari.
He fought in Japan in 74.Il Duce wrote:It took a $100,000 'minimum' to get Ramiro Machado to let Antonio leave Colombia/Venezuela in 1973/1974.
Plus, #1 WBA-ranked "OPBF Champion' - Chang-Kil Lee was the next 'mandatory' for 1974.
Re: Cervantes/Arcari.
My point was they got him over there with the proper amount of money for Kadota, so why not for Furuyama?Il Duce wrote:Yes, October 1974
But beating up a little overblown Lightweight 'Shinichi Kadota' is one thing.
But taking on Lion Furuyama in Japan is something else.
If you ever get a chance, check out the 'guns' on Lion Furuyama.
Lion was a beast with those biceps.
