Greatest Fighter of All Time

Post by coreygardner »

Jack Dempsey, the most vicious of all World Heavyweight Champions, but who had a fairly short run at the title.

Jack Johnson, the first black World Heavyweight Champion, who mainly fought guys who weighed below 200 pounds.

Joe Louis, the longest reigning World Heavyweight Champion who had 25 career defenses, which is what champions are measured.

Rocky Marciano, the only undefeated World Heavyweight Champion who was 49 - 0 (43 KO's), although he fought has beens, and it sounds fishy, but he was no doubt talented.

Muhammad Ali, the only three time World Heavyweight Champion, and the most obnoxious (and if any other boxer used 'rope a dope', it would be counted as a TKO by the referee)

Mike Tyson, the youngest World Heavyweight Champion who went 37 - 0, but lost to big competition such as Holyfield.

Anderson Silva, the UFC Middleweight Champion of the World, who is 16 - 0 in the UFC, a professional boxer (1 - 1), a blackbelt in Taekwondo, and a blackbelt in Brazilian JuJitsu.

Problem is he's just fought white guys!

My list:

Joe Louis
Anderson Silva
Rocky Marciano
Mike Tyson
Muhammad Ali
Jack Dempsey
Jack Johnson

I like Jack Dempsey the best, then Rocky Marciano, then Joe Louis.

+1, a list that only includes heavyweight boxers and a 16-0 middleweight "in front of the pub cuddle-brawler" is very weird.

In response I give you Sugar Ray Robinson.

Even worse, Silva is only 1-1 as a pro fighter, hahaha. Why he is mentioned in the same breath as Marciano, Dempsey, Louis etc... is beyond me

I go with the winner of the biggest fight of all time.....

Joe Frazier.

And before anybody thinks that I really believe Frazier was the greatest fighter of all-time, the preceding post and thumbs up was just a small tribute to him for coming in and believing in himself in the most important fight of the 20th century against a more physically gifted opponent and prevailing.

In truth, my guess as to the greatest of all-time would be someone like Ray Robinson, Archie Moore, or Harry Greb.

I think that and Duran/Leonard 1 were the greatest performances I've ever seen.

Forgot about Henry Armstrong. He surely belongs in the mix as an all-timer.

My pick is the great Henry Armstrong. :TU: :TU: :TU:

But if someone says Sugar Ray Robinson or Sam Langford, it would be a great choice, too. I don't see no one else better than this threesome.

I don`t know what the fvck he means by "he`s just fought white guys" but this list is not very good. Why are almost all of them Heavyweights? Tyson surely doesn`t deserve to be on there. I would rank his conqueror in Holyfield higher.

My vote would be for Sugar Ray Robinson. I would put Armstrong and Pep up there too. Not too familiar with Langford Saad, forgive me.

The "he's just fought white guys" line was a joke; it's called a sense of humor, so I guess I should have put "LOL" after it.

Could Mike Tyson have beat Sugar Ray Robinson? Yes.
Would Robinson have made Tyson look ridiculous at times due to his skill? Yes.

When I say who is the greatest fighter of all time, I didn't mean boxer, I mean all around.

Boxing is the number one martial art in my opinion, every fight starts with it and every fight can end with it.

For example:
Longest reigning champions:

Boxing's Joe Louis vs. MMA's Anderson Silva

Vicious Jack Dempsey vs. Vicious Mike Tyson

Who was the greatest? Add whoever you want, those are just the most famous #1 fighters.

So, this is all a joke? I must admit I'm a bit confused, not the first time.

Are you saying who the best fighter is, all combat sports combined? And since you made a point of saying Tyson would beat Robinson, I'm guessing you aren't looking at things PFP, but literally "who could beat who".

I'm going to say Lennox Lewis in some kind of mechanical suit.

Don't look at me like that, it's not as ridiculous as OP premise.

there was so many great ones but for me joe louis was the greatest and thats not a knock on the many others he lost only three fights two of them when he was past 36 and all three were heavyweight champions. the power and speed he showed to be can not be equaled

In the last couple years I've concluded that Harry Greb has a legitimate case for greatest fighter of alltime, along with Robinson and Armstrong, as well as Willie Pep before the plane crash.

I would probably say Greb or Langford, just recently found out about the greatness of Langford. Langford and Greb would be hard to go against imo

Well it isn't really fair and doesn't make sense though at least they are all around the same size. Under boxing rules those guy obviously beat Anderson but under Muay Thai, Taekwondo, Wrestling, BJJ, MMA rules other than a punchers chance those guys get beaten. I don't really get the point of the thread. Anderson Silva is most probably the greatest fighter to ever live. His record in MMA is unmatched. But under boxing rules he does get beaten by all those guys so i really dont get the point of bringing him up in this thread.

Greatest fighter of all time, there can only be one nominee S.R.R. Forget p4p garbage. Just look at the available footage of all fighters, and watch the way Robinson worked his magic in the ring. Then compare it with the way everyone else tries to do their thing. He was in a league of his own.
Sugar Ray Robinson to me, was not the most complete fighter ever. I could name about 5 fighters that were more complete than he was
