Re: Floyd Patterson vs Wladimir Klitschko
Patterson always had a weakness, and that was hard punchers. Anyone in the division today, whether they have fought the man or have sparred him, will say Vladimir Klitschko hits harder than anyone else (other than Vitali). Patterson gets tagged with that right hand, I don't know if he recovers.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Wlad by shutout, jab and grab all night.

Re: Floyd Patterson vs Wladimir Klitschko
Floyd's chin was better than it gets credit for. He wasn't iron jawed but he, like Norton, has this ridiculous reputation with a lot of fans for being a guys that would get stopped by any puncher he faced. Wlad's power is as unquestionable as his timidness. I think Floyd's speed would keep him from attacking.HomicideHenry wrote:Patterson always had a weakness, and that was hard punchers. 70 pounds will do that to a fight.MEISINGER wrote:don't get too many of these dream fights this one sided
Re: Floyd Patterson vs Wladimir Klitschko
Wladimir would knock out Patterson. I can see him doing his typical uber-cautious thing and just lasting the distance, but Patterson has no shot against any version of Wladimir. Even the early, more aggressive version. The early aggressive version of Wlad KO's Patterson inside 4 rounds. The current version KO's him in the 9th or 10th.

Re: Floyd Patterson vs Wladimir Klitschko
What about Wlad vs some of the otheer smaller heavyweights. The defensive minded Wlad now against....
Marciano
Tunney
Charles
Louis
Holyfield
Marciano
Tunney
Charles
Louis

Re: Floyd Patterson vs Wladimir Klitschko
Holyfield and Louis would be the biggest handful of all those fighters. He'd beat the rest. I think in the case of Louis, he'd probably be too cautious of Joe's power and Joe would outwork him, and either KO him late or win a decision. Holyfield's too tough, and would run Wlad out of gas with his attack.keithmoonhangover wrote:What about Wlad vs some of the otheer smaller heavyweights. The defensive minded Wlad now against....

Louis & Evander knock him out. Marciano would have a chance late. I think Wlad out-boxes Charles & Tunney with his size.

Wladimir would win easily.
He's far too big, skilful & risk averse to lose to Patterson.
Wladimir on points.

I think James Toney would likely see the final bell with Wlad, I don't think Floyd would.

Re: Floyd Patterson vs Wladimir Klitschko
Bad style matchup for Patterson, especially given the size difference. Floyd's peak weight was around 184 lbs with short arms (71' reach). I often fight for the little guy in these fantasy fights but given that size difference plus the D'Amato style and a suspect chin and Floyd has few ways to win beyond landing the Ingo rematch hook on Wlad's jaw.
Agree with Saad though that this is a likely decision win. Wlad vs fast guys who can bang fights with extreme caution.
Louis shouldn't be classed with Patterson, Charles, Tunney in terms of size; Joe was a big 6'2 with a big, natural heavyweight frame. He could've easily carried 220+ and not had an ounce of fat on him.

They both have suspect chins; in fact Patterson probably had the better of the two. It would probably be a mtter of who hit who first. Klitschko gets badly outlcassed by every one else mentioned except for Toney.

Wlad is too big for him. Wlad by KO in 5.

Re: Floyd Patterson vs Wladimir Klitschko
Wladimir hasn't boxed a fellow with such blurring fast hands, and who was also a knockout puncher. Patterson was also used to dealing with men more physically active, aggressive and with faster shorter punches than the huge, cumbersome Wladimir. I think Wladimir boxing so many big, heavy, ponderous guys virtually his whole career would leave him ill-equipped to deal with a quick guy who could hit. He looked uncomfortable throughout the Haye fight and was shaken up in the 3rd and 12th.
Both men can hurt the other, I'd be more inclined to think the speed and whizzing kayo combinations of Floyd will land on the huge target than Wlad's repetitive jab and grab on the small moving target.

I don't doubt Toney would see the final bell, he'd lose every round though.BoxBuzz wrote:I think James Toney would likely see the final bell with Wlad, I don't think Floyd would.
