My favourite combat sport is Muay Thai with the elbows and knees but that's as rare as rocking horse shit these days :(
I'd prefer anything on earth to replace the boxing, than the UFC.
Not because it's shoite, but more a case of Ch5 thinking they are providing something for fight fans - when they are definitely not.
Big Daddy vs Catweazle replays from the late 70's would be better than a couple of cabbage-eared wrestlers on growth hormones trying to sit on top of one another.

I've only watched a couple of shows. It's not for me. No disrespect to any UFC practitioners intended, but it often looks as if they are trying to bum each other.
I completely understand those who just aren't interested in MMA, but what genuinely surprises me on this board is when people knowledgeable about one combat sport are so willing to be dismissive of another.
Presumably they're the posters who would get indignant if they were in a pub conversation where someone dismissed boxing as just two blokes lumping the hell out of each other, with no acknowledgement of the fact there's a skill level involved, yet they're quite willing to do exactly the same thing when it comes to MMA. Bizarre...

So apparently some deal fell through with channel 5 & they have decided that for now boxing will not be a part of their tv schedule. But they also said that might change again in the future? Over the next few weeks me & my team will now have to decide what steps we will take to get back on track but I wont let anything stop my progression in the sport of boxing, this is just a bump in the long road I have ahead of me. And anyone who feels that boxing should stay on channel 5 write letters, emails & tweets to channel 5 telling them that they have made a big mistake, thanks #TeamEubank
UFC is soundbite combat sport, that's the attraction to TV over better matches etc. The fights are shorter than boxing matches, works better for the mentality of the times, so I can see why the TV people like it. I like it too, 15 minutes for the majority of fights, then onto the next one if the last one was shite. Boxing requires more patience and there's not a lot of that about these days outside us hardcores.
Also good UFC matches are cheaper to make, therefore cheaper for TV in the longterm. Boxing takes the piss moneywise for any decent match and there isn't a lot of money around anymore, as we all know. It'll be a big challenge to get ANY TV company to make a meaningful investment in boxing in this climate, promoters and fighters will have to cut their cloth before that happens. They will have to operate for less, whereas the growth of interest in UFC means the fighters' purses can potentially rise as the backing increases, yet it will still be cheaper than top level boxing.
Not a pretty picture for boxing and a fairly obvious choice between the two to make for anyone holding the purse strings at a TV company, I imagine.

clearly boxing needs to make some changes. I always had the fantasy of some multi billionaire getting into boxing who is a huge fan and decides to try and make a UFC type model with boxing. Never gonna happen though unfortunately and I doubt it could.

IMO CHannell 5 are thick. Apart from Big Brother, does anyone actually watched ANYTHING on channel 5. I mean what do they even show? I don't know anyone that watches it. So at least when they show Fury/Eubank/DeGale 'we all' (Boxing fans) tune-in.

No, we are talking the magnificent Red shoe diaries that started weirdly with Mulder from the X-files narrating, the amazing Emmanuelle series, the confessions of a window cleaner humour/porn crossover. Plus there was always some Eurotrash esque magazine style show on a Thursday night. Not that I ever tuned in of course.
I would have been gutted if I had tuned into Channel 5 on a Friday night as a teenager and seen Tyson Fury staring back at me ;;-)

I was 17 when Channel Five first came out, but I was one of the people who couldn't get it.
I remember being 18 or 19, coming back from the pub on a Saturday night pished and putting some film on. It was always about some woman who was trying to get back in touch with her family. They do tend to put some half-decent films on occasionally. Especially on Sundays. (And not the bluey ones I mentioned earlier.) The problem I find is, they tend to be films that you've seen a million times before, but some are still worth watching.
Channel Five got rid of their football coverage recently as well, didn't they? I never used to watch any, but they did put on a lot of English teams Europa League games.

It used to be a terrific channel, action movies every night at 9 and they used to show overseas boxing too albeit in the early hours.
