Is Fury literally the worst Boxer ever to lace up the gloves

Post by mickey1975 »

Just thought i would join in with the rest of the Forum. He has never got an ounce of credit for anything he has ever done! People still go on about the McDermott fight but conviently forget he knocked him out in a return! Blame him for Chisora not looking like Ken Norton when they Boxed and it was virtually unanimous he would not go 3 with Price, even though had, as a 17 year old kid and Price was an experienced international. If he beat Wlad, Povetekin and Vitali all on the same night, it would be because it is the weakest era in Heavyweight history. I think its got worse since Price got badly exposed with that clip behind the ear!

You're forgetting the bit about him punching himself in the face.

I haven't noticed that much hatred of him - the thread re a potential Haye fight just shows most people think Haye would be all wrong for Fury and smash him.

Maybe you're right - maybe he does deserve a bit more credit. I used to think he was poor and was going nowhere...but the chap keeps winning!

And he proved taking that great uppercut from himself that he's both agile, and has a better chin than Price. Imagine if Price connected with himself? A mixture of his undoubted power and terrible chin, he would have been the first boxer in history to seriously injur himself!

He didnt really punch himself in the face *well he did* but if you look at that footage again, what happened is he threw an uppercut I think it was and it deflected off the other guys gloves and then hit him in the face. It wasnt like he threw a punch and it didnt touch anything and went straight into his own face

I always thought he was liked in the most part. Like many British boxers that reach a certain level, the begrudgers always come out of the woodwork to have a pop and Fury is no exception to that. I like him because he has skills and mouth but also has a certain amount of vulnerability about him. As MM implied, kudos to him for travelling over to the States to fight Cunningham who is still a very good boxer that has been on the end of a few dubious decisions in the past year.

I like Fury, and I like David Price.

Some people seem to align themselves with either one or the other and it's cool to think both are decent fighters with likeable personalities.

I liked them both, it was the level of bias on here that had me wanting Fury to prove them all wrong. Just like i have never seen Al-Haribi, but would want to see him get beat because of Saf.

I've always both liked Fury and been very frustrated with his development. There were times he seemed to be going backwards (such as the Pajkic fight, where he looked worse than in his debut) before Uncle Peter got hold of him.

I thought he showed flashes of world class in the Johnson fight, both in dealing with Johnson's jab and his use of angles and range, even if Johnson didn't press the fight very hard after the early rounds. I really hope he brings the same stuff to the table against Cunningham and doesn't allow himself to be distracted by the absence of Peter Fury.

In answer to the question. No he's isn't. But I'm sure he doesn't care about that. He is compared with Price (still). These two were being built towards a future showdown I am sure, Price being the hero with the GB amateur pedigree and the the bad guy Fury (mouthy Johnny come lately). This fight will now have been shuffled even further down the line.

Fury is $$$. We need characters like him. Boxing is part show business/theatre, as we all know.

I hope that he goes all the way,I really do. I also, like others, am interested to see how he handles Cunningham. If he is impressive, he will win over more fans, here and stateside (with the US Irish etc)- Then onto a Klitschko, or a final final eliminator against a bonafide top 10 heavy (like Povetkin).
If he gets beaten (or looks vulnerable) versus Cunningham, then big domestic exposure will ensure (i) paydays and (ii) chance to rebuild

Some fans, dislike Fury, because they, regard his attitude (like Eubank) with him becoming a fighter the wider audience want to see beaten. Again that is a commodity in this industry. A good "villain" equals $$$.

Fury, Haye,
Price, Delboy

"Kerching" promotion that would be

if Fury used his considerable size advantages over Haye the way Wlad did he could shut him out all night.
Am not sure he has the athleticism, stamina or the deterrent to keep him off though. Haye didn't look even remotely threatening against Wlad all night.
I remember Haye running after Wlad in some shopping centre then standing in front of him grinning like he'd "trapped" him. Wlad just turned around, looked down and smiled at him. He looked very comfortable. When I saw that I thought the game was up and so it proved.

You gotta admit there's a certain irony to you starting a thread about how Fury doesn't get enough credit then using it to criticise David Price's chin....

As for the actual topic, it's mostly bollocks isnt it? Fury gets a ton of credit on this forum for more than just his boxing, he's considered a comedic genius by half the people on here and his talking is shite compared to his boxing.

This. I find a lot of his interviews painful to watch.

No Freddie Flintoff is the worse boxer ever to lace up gloves.
Fury is an exciting prospect but has a lot of improvement to make before becoming a world champion. He does however appear to be coming on well under Peter Fury's tutelage just wish he had a big punch though as it makes things so much easier.

I've never been a massive fan of his but his boxing progress has been there for everyone to see.
He's looking more accomplished in each fight and is becoming a legitimate contender for a shot at Klitschko.

I can understand why some might dislike him as a person considering some of his inane ramblings but the more I see and hear of him, the more I think he's just trying to make a name for himself.

I'm in a similar category. I want both to go far and eventually fight for World titles. Fury's out of ring persona gets slightly on my nerves tho but despite this I'll still be hoping he beats Cunningham. If him and Price met I would want Price to win. Am I a 'hater' because of this? No.

To go into why I don't like this out of ring stuff is I just don't find it amusing. A chap put an hour long interview he did with Fury up and he came across as intelligent and articulate, so I know full well that the screaming and shouting is put on to sell tickets. But when he is screaming and shouting he's constantly getting words wrong, stuttering and repeating himself. I see people on here going 'gawwwwwd he is hilarious isn't he' but actually in the last press conference when he did his 'I hit him, he hits the floor then Tyson Fury hits New York' it was met with abject silence by everyone in the room. Then when Cunningham's trainer said 'I bet more people know me than you' or words to that effect the entire room erupted in laughter.

Also some of the Fury fans on here go a bit OTT. Yeah we know Fury is a traveller, and we know travellers meet up and fight with each other in lay-bys and fields because one of them looked at the others pint. For some reason this makes mrpedigree and co the hardest men to ever grace the boards here having seen some of the worst atrocities known to man. And now we have this meltdown at the start of this thread. Just because a few give him no credit for his good wins doesn't mean everyone is the same. For some people on here Price, Khan, Audley Harrison, Kell Brook can do no right either. Just ignore the tits on here and if it's someone who is considered a more knowledgeable respectful poster then do what we do on forums and have a debate.

Sounds like sour grapes to me on a effed up bet (did Price let you down, like he did my co-hosts?).

As for the worst boxer to ever lace up the gloves, there are hundreds of others I can name far worse than Tyson Fury, who is anything but a bad boxer. The young man has alot of promise. He may not beat the Klitschko's anytime soon, but he is still a young guy.

Do these people seriously believe i think Fury is the worst person to lace up the gloves? Your are round the bend. And no, never bet on a Price fight considering he was about 1/10 or worse in every one. Bet on Fury at 5/6 against Del, though....

i used to think he was a load of crap until he started to take boxing abit more serious and get his weight down,i thought his performances against rogan and kingpin were proof he has got better and remeber he has got up off the floor to knock out an opponent something price has yet to do. i'll admit i was one of the people who, earlier on in the tit for tat thing with price and fury, had price to win but in fury's last 3 fights ive thought he would beat price if they met.
