Ike Ibeabuchi never went to jail for trying to do a prossie...

Would the Klits have had this monopoly domanace? Ike layed out an unbeaten Chris Byrd (something both Klits never came close to doing), beat an unbeaten Tua in just his 16th fight (Tua should've been a champion at some point). If he never went to jail he would've stepped in to contention at the end of Lewis' reign and the begin of the Klits. Could he have F'd it all up for them?

He was a hard nut, but a flawed character. If he wasn`t put away for what he did, it would have been something else. I doubt he would have had the strength of mind to stay at the top for long.

It`s not really his fault, I blame George Groves.

Ok, well maybe not domiance in the long run... but if he lasted to about 2003, surely would've sparked Wlad out cold

Tua was unlucky in their fight. Also, why should have Tua been a champion? It's not like he didn't get a chance. He wasn't good enough.

Ike was of a similar standard to Tua. Would he have beat Wlad? Who knows. It's not like Wlad is two bob is it? It's a shame he went away because he was an interesting fighter who would have challenged at some point. Violent nutters like him need locking up though so don't shed too many tears for his demise.

Definetly agree... just would've been nice to have some challengers to the Klits tha`t were better than Danny Williams etc

Not had an Ike thread for a good couple of years. Up until about 3/4 years ago he'd crop up every 18months or so with people asking "what if he gets parole will he come out and win a HW title". Great fight with Tua, his KO of Byrd was brutal, but I think he wouldve come up short against the top HW's at the time. Punchers chance against pre 2006 version of Wlad.

Worth noting he was only 24 when he went to prison, a baby in HW terms.

On a serious note Ive never seen or heard rumours his age was incorrect? Just the fact he's from a part of the world where they dont have legit documents.

He's up for parole again in a few months although he'll more than likely be deprted if found suitable for release.

Dead Mouse wrote:Ike really struggled with Tua, who was clowned by Lewis, so all signs point to Ike beating Lewis by landing a right uppercut to the head followed by a right to the body. The only thing preventing Ike’s theoretical rise to the top is the theoretical form of the non-real Mike Tyson, who didn’t go to jail and therefore didn’t lose his skills, he also retained the services of Cus, he lived to 129 in this parallel universe, and Kevin “I’ve trained a gazillion champions” Rooney was also onboard. It means that, by the time Ike didn’t go to jail, Tyson would be knocking everyone out by landing right uppercuts to the head and right hooks to the body, so it is the ultimate pick ‘em fight as it all depends on who lands their right uppercut to the head followed by a right hook to the body first.

“What do you think, Dead Mouse?” I hear you cry. Well, and bear with me here, in parallel universe #3 cryogenics really took off to the point where people could be frozen in a moment and retain their youth forever. Sonny Liston, frozen by the mob in the 1950s, is unleashed in the 1990s and, crucially, releases John Dillinger, who steals Cus’s book of numbered combinations. This allows Liston to master the right uppercut-right hook move and he reigns for 100 years, he spends his spare time in a freezer, just like Rachel in the novelisations of the Blade Runner “sequels”, she was allowed out once a year so that Deckard could dick her up.

Now, cryogenics really did improve space travel and this allowed scientists to put some of Jack Johnson’s DNA into an imploding star, creating a Superman IV version of Johnson. Liston is sent into space to do battle with him, on a big f*cking steamboat to keep the filth at bay, and wins this ultimate battle. It is now many, many years since Liston was crushed when a parade failed to meet him at the airport, redemption has finally come around, the people now love him.

He definatly could of been I thought, he was a good fighter enjoyed watching him box he was exceptionally good on the inside for a big guy could roll punches and used his elbows well, I'm sure was Curtis Oakes in his corner who showed him all the old school moves!! Ike could defo punch what he did to Byrd was Brutal (who beat 1 of the bothers) he fought Tua at his own game great workrate for a heavy, power, chin, great body puncher, etc list is quite long but like that was said earlier he would of ended up in trouble anyway!!

"Byrd who beat one of the brothers" - come on mate, ike may have beaten wlad on a "punchers chance", but vitali byrd was a horrible one off. Vitali was 5 up going into last 3.

He would have given it a damn good go but the honest answer is no. Vitali has one of the toughest chins ever seen in the ring that even Lennox Lewis could not drop him with the bombs he was throwing, but Vitali would have had too much size and will to win and would have really made a mess of him. As for Wladimir he would have dropped him perhaps at least once but if Wladimir showed the heart and powers of recovery that he displayed in the first fight against Samuel Peter he would have got back up and forced him on the backfoot and got the win either by late stoppage or on points decision made tighter than actually was by the knockdowns.

We are all partial to a bit of rosé tinted "what ifs" now and again.

The idea that a guy who struggled with David Tua would have been a top fighter is laughable, tho.

I agree with that Langers - Ike was good and would have won a belt but he wouldn't have put a dent in Vitali - personally speaking.

Yep, look at that guy Lennox Lewis who scrapped past Ray Mercer and then went on to become undisputed champion.

I'm not saying Ike would have achieved the same but you just can't right a fighter off on one performance.

That's completely different.
Im not comparing ruiz to ike, the statement was "The idea that an guy who struggled with tua would have been a top fighter" - cant deny, love him or hate him, ruiz was a "top (heavyweight) fighter" - world title holder or challenger for 8 years. 8 very long years.

The truth is we'll never know, but we had worse world champions over the course of when he wouldve been active.

Yes your right but the way Ike beat him showed what level he was in and with more expierience maybe could of done something, he had good chin, workrate, power, could box etc but was inexperienced and lacked discipline them days but I'm sure on the right track he would of done better than the Chambers, Kirk Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Manuel charr, ray Austin etc no disrespect to these guys but think Ike beats them all quite easily
