Peter McDonagh comes out in defense of allegedly
Peter McDonagh comes out in defense of allegedly
I thought it was interesting because a lot of people seem to say that FW doesnt pay his fighters, etc so I thought id put this out there .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWjYl-DZNFk
Re: Peter McDonagh comes out in defense of allegedly
Smart move as a way to get regular work if you think about it , Peter has regularly stepped in at short notice and saved fights for fw and gives an honest account of himself with his record and the stage his career I wouldnt imagine handsome eddie would be interested.
Despite what many seem to think Fw will survive the current situation and when he comes back around he will certainly hold a grudge to any fighters who didnt stand by him

Re: Peter McDonagh comes out in defense of allegedly
I suspect his career earnings from FW don't even come close to Burns' lowest payday for a title defence.
Re: Peter McDonagh comes out in defense of allegedly
Obviously. But they are different levels, as in a Blue Square Conference player would never get what Beckham earns in a week.
Re: Peter McDonagh comes out in defense of allegedly
So it's easier to pay/placate someone who is earning relative peanuts.
Re: Peter McDonagh comes out in defense of allegedly
I would say so yes. Peter must have his reasons to say what he has said the same as Ricky has his.

If its under £3,000, it has to be on the night. You get a week for amounts above, i would imagine thats when the problems start...

I would have thought that Peter gets decent wage sparring other boxers as well; he is old enough not to bite the hand that feeds and as someone else said; others may not treat him as well/pay as well. No way is Mr warren the worst man in the world; he must do more than a few things well and get on with people else he'd have sunk long long ago.

Agreed Boxing is a funny old business a fighter comes into the game and the promoter takes a risk, the trainer takes a risk in that its not until the (if) the fighter makes any real money that they get paid and yet as soon as the fighter starts making a bit of a name for themselves they (or there "advisor's") want to start to call the shots or when if they come unstuck it becomes everyone else's fault.
Now don't get me wrong there is 2 sides to every story and I am not commenting on every situation just thought I would keep my mind open.
"If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you; that is the principal difference between a dog and a man."
Mark Twain
Now that can stand for any promoter, manager, trainer, fighter this is a business and in business you always have this type of occurrence

FW was always the best payer, obv there seems to be some cash flow issues for paying the bigger money to his headline acts, but it was always the case for the away 4-8 round fighter getting his best paydays on those big bills.
Ok he would never say hello, he prob didn't know who you are but it was always true you got the best purses with him.
Barry Hearn was never far behind, maybe 100 quid, but had a great personal touch, maybe he didn't know who you were either, but made an effort to pretend he did!

FW has always had an excellent reputation for paying his fighters well and on time.
Eddie Hearn might try and infer otherwise via his SkySports blog, but most people see through that.
