JOHN 'THE BEAST' MUGUBI VS JULIAN JACKSON
JOHN 'THE BEAST' MUGUBI VS JULIAN JACKSON
This would be bombs away!!!... I think this could be whoever starts the quickest and give the edge in technique to Mugubi but, Jackson could end it with one punch and perhaps had the bigger heart in an all out war... all in all I think Jackson would pull it off with a late round ko!...

Re: JOHN 'THE BEAST' MUGUBI VS JULIAN JACKSON
I think Mugabi had a better chin than most people think.Jackson may have been a more skilled boxer, but I think Mugabi hit every bit as hard if not harder, and he could take a much better punch.Remember the Hagler fight,Mugabi ran out of gas,and went down from an accumulation of punches, not one shot.Mugabi wins by mid-round K.O.silkov wrote:This would be bombs away!!!... Mugabi, in round three, but it could be hell while it lasted.zuru wrote:I think Mugabi had a better chin than most people think.Jackson may have been a more skilled boxer, but I think Mugabi hit every bit as hard if not harder, and he could take a much better punch.Remember the Hagler fight,Mugabi ran out of gas,and went down from an accumulation of punches, not one shot.Mugabi wins by mid-round K.O.silkov wrote:This would be bombs away!!!... Great match-up - Obviously two of the biggest hitters ever at JMW - Mugabi I think had "heavier" hands over the course of a fight....but I think for a single shot J. Jackson hit a little harder -
True pick'em fight as either guy could be taken out considering each of their power -
My guess is J. Jackson strikes first - J. Jackson KO 4th

jm/jj
I'd go with Mugabi on this one. Jackson's faster than Mugabi, but so was Hagler. It took Hagler all fight to wear down Mugabi. I think it would go the distance tho as I could see both fighters respecting each other after the first few rounds.

Whoever landed first would be the winner...the fact that one might have had a slightly better chin than the other would be irrelevant in this bout as they both punched so hard that neither's chin could stand up to the power that each possessed. I would lean a little toward Jackson because I feel that he was faster than Mugabi and his punches were crisper and tighter. I think Jackson's left hook would land before Mugabi's big right. Regardless of the outcome, it would have been one exciting brawl for the short time that it lasted!
One of the reasons I lean towards Jackson is that I think he had the better one-punch ko power. Mugubi used to knock out opponents with a combination of punches while Jackson often needed just one shot and the man would be out before he hit the deck.
Jackson was unlucky in his career in that a lot of the top guys didn't want to mix it with him and then when he started breaking through he was hindered by his eye problems.
Shame this bout never came off.

Jackson had the misfortune of being in the Don King stable of great fighters at a time when all of King’s energy and promotion was focused on Mike Tyson, of which Jackson was lost in the shuffle along with Azumah Nelson and JC Chavez. Of course Jackson started to gain more notoriety when Tyson went to prison and King had to use his other fighters now that his cash cow was gone, but by that time Jackson was on the way down and King had focused mostly on Chavez. Julian Jackson should have been a household name, but due to the fact that King did not promote Jackson the same way that he did other fighters, Jackson just sank into obscurity except to the hardcore fan!
Yeah, its unfair really, Jackson should be looked at as an all time great really. He missed out on all the 'superfights' that were going on in the late 80s. Possibly King lost interest in him after he was beaten by Mccallum. Its interesting to see that Jackson koed Terry Norris, yet it was Norris who went on to have big fights with Leonard, Curry, Mugubi and Taylor... Jackson didnt get the big fights till he was badly on the slide.
Jackson is probably the biggest single puncher I've seen along with a peak Pipino Cuevas.

Mugabi was not faster then J. Jackson - Not at all - As I already said above this is definitely a "pick-em" fight in the sense that either guy could KO the other -KO Atrist wrote:A peak Mugabi, was stronger, faster, ahd a better chin and was a better boxer. Power wise, they were equal or jackson may have had better one shot power.
Mugabi had a better chin and was stronger.
Mugabi KO2.
With that said, I still say punch for punch J. Jackson was the bigger hitter and I'm bet he'd land the big one first -
J. Jackson KO inside of 5 -

Mugabi did not hit as hard as Jackson PERIOD! Mugabi did well against Hagler, but that is totally irrelevant when comparing him to Jackson. No way does Mugabi KO a prime Jackson early, it took McClellan 5 rounds to KO a well past his prime Jackson in their first fight and IMO McClellan hit harder than Mugabi. Don't look at the McClellan fights or the Verno Phillips fight or even Tate for that matter. Watch Jackson against Drayton, Baek, Norris or Graham even McCallum. Jackson wins this fight by early KO!

Well seeing as how you used an exclamation point to end your statement, you must be right.hawaiianpunch wrote:Mugabi did not hit as hard as Jackson PERIOD! Watch Jackson-Norris, then Mugabi-Norris
