i studied sociology towards my psychology degree and became very interested in this subject and i have to say horse is on very shakey ground. i'm now a teacher and a writer and there is not a cat in hells chance of me ever becoming anything other than what i am - working class

Of course, one cannot change their past or their previous life experiences that moulds them into
the person that they are today. The only chance one has of becoming truly middle class is to
go back into childhood, get adopted by a middle class family and partake in a middle class lifestyle.
Which would give you the outlook of a typical Daily Mail reader... or The Times.

It wouldn't bother me. I bet they average Bhangi has a less stressful life than those Indian chicks you see at IPL who are so concerned with looking the part that they never appear to enjoy playing the part.

I firmly believe that a simple, stress free life is they key to happiness, and material goods will never make you happy.

The class system confuses me. Can you only (if you can) better your class? Your origins never change who you are. Maybe they do.

you are right, it is far from clear where these borders lie. i came from a very poor housing estate but through my interest and work in the creative arts i have hob-nobbed it with the aristocracy in stately homes on quite a few occasions. i think social mobility is superficially possible via the arts but that the vast stinking ditch of the middle class waits for most good british artists to fall into it. the fall is almost inevitable.
