Yes a long time ago granted, but he's at least had success on that stage, so is it not better to fight someone who has proven at that level or someone who never has ? And remember Harrison never lost title in ring.

I remember a well past his prime medina schooling him and then polo doing the same. Harrison was a tough guy, exciting to watch but lets face it he was another one of warrens paper champions. He didnt fight any of the other top guys at the time in his same weight like Marquez, Pac man, Chi, John, Morales......around the time harrison was champion all these fighters were at featherweight and would have all beat him. Harrison was a very well matched fighter by warren, made sure he had a string of easy defences fought some good names who were all past there best (McCullough, brodie, medina-who beat him quite handly) without matching against the truly elite of the division.

Re: Ricky Burns v Scott Harrison
Its going to be another hype job on the scale of David Haye v Fraudley! Only going to be 1 winner but they will make you believe its a pick em fight.
But this is why i love boxing....
My head says mismatch and that Burns will walk it but i, like hundreds of others would attend, in hope of the rocky story, that Harrison could roll back the years and make it interesting!
Furthermore if they hold this in Scotland it will without a doubt be the biggest paying crowd Burns has ever had

Scott Harrison V's Billy Nelson in a buckfast drinking competition would be more competitive imo.

As far as I know there's no chance of this fight happening.
Re: Ricky Burns v Scott Harrison
This was being put forward for June after the Vazquez fight in March as Harrison was meant to be fighting on the undercard. Harrison has split with Alex Morrison now, so can't see it happening.

I definetely dont agree that Burns has not beat anyone world class. I think Mitchell, Martinez and Katisatas are defo world class. He still dodged Broner tho no matter what you say. The facts are there for all to see

Hes had plenty of time to get ready. He could have fought him around the same time he fought katisatas but he vacated. Also when the vazquez fight fell broner offered him the june 22nd date where he is now fighting Malignaggi. That seems plenty of time especially when your scheduled to fight May 11th so im not sure how you can say hes not had enough time to prapare. Anyway its irrelevant now, Broner took the hint and has moved to 147, no matter what you say publically, privately your obviously very happy you dont have to ever face him.

If you wanted to fight broner it would be you fighting him on june 22nd and i think you no that's a fact he wants the fight big time hes called you out at least 3 or 4 times
Re: Ricky Burns v Scott Harrison
I am a big Burns fan and always jump to his defence when folk have mentioned that idiot Broner but you seem to be deliberatly missing the point Billy and being very evasive while doing it.
Very publicly, Adrien Broner and Richard Shaeffer, then allegedly, have offered Ricky the fight with Broner. The fight is welcomed on both sides of the Atlantic. I remain convinced Ricky wants the fight but why don't you or other key members of the Burns team?
I've yet to see a convincing reason why it's not happening this year. The worst thing is yous have moved over to poncey Eddie to take a lesser fight. It's hard to make sense of.

Well that sounds prudent. Margin Hagler avoided Bennie Briscoe until he felt ready to take him. It didn't enhance his rep at the time but he obviously eclipsed Bennie over time.
The frustrating thing for me is I feel now is the best time for Ricky to beat Broner. I think Ricky could give him the lesson the moron so deserves. Yous obviously know a lot better than me though. Cheers

Team Band Camp would've been eating ice cream in a matter of minutes against burns!
I wouldn't want to fight a guy who would make me look like a Bum of the month either! Good advice Billy.
But what happens the next time you are matched with a guy you know you can't beat?

Why would anyone respond to a bullshit, insulting post like that?
Re: Ricky Burns v Scott Harrison
well if you think your the best, you fight the best. This is boxing and there are a lot of risks. So if you don't think you can beat the guy, well then it makes good business sense to duck the best and fight at a level you know you can excel. What is that quote in balboa "a legacy is what you get instead of getting paid".
It is why all these old fighters are so well revered now. They never ducked anyone. Because they couldn't. To get all the marbles you had to fight the top guy.
And they can make all the excuses they want. Broner would stand burns on his head. And everyone knows that. So makes sense to duck the fight until everything is in team burn's favor. Because to be honest, i wouldn't wanna fight broner on any night. But maybe I am living in a dream world, where so called elite professional athletes do battle with each other.
ho hum
